Chapter 154: Could It Be the Repair Shop?

Chapter 154: Could It Be the Repair Shop?

Li Yanhong climbed back into the truck and picked up the walkie-talkie, saying, "This is the repair shop, Changyingzi District convoy, can you hear me?"

After speaking, she waited on the side.

But there was still no response, only commands and urgent orders being transmitted, with no acknowledgment from the other side.

It seemed the frequency was the issue.

The other side was using a fixed short-range frequency, while their equipment was military-grade, allowing them to receive but not transmit.

"Can you hear me? Changyingzi District convoy, you can proceed. We'll clear a path for you." Li Yanhong repeated.

But there was still no response.

Then, the approaching convoy suddenly began to slow down.

The vehicles swerved, narrowly avoiding an accident.

But with the zombie horde chasing from behind, they didn't dare stop.

...

Inside the convoy.

The people in the lead vehicle looked in terror at the massive army up ahead.

Clad in ancient leather armor, holding long spears.

They were neatly lined up in the middle of the road.

It looked like an ancient army had appeared in the modern world.

But what terrified them most were the skeleton faces beneath the armor and the endless sea of skeleton soldiers behind them.

It felt like encountering an army of ghost soldiers.

And, of all times, they blocked the road right now.

If they hadn't endured the apocalypse for so long, this sight alone would have scared them to death.

"Big Brother, what do we do?" the driver asked anxiously.

The convoy was moving fast, and if this continued, they would crash into the skeletons.

The man in the passenger seat looked equally grim.

He hadn't expected such a problem at this moment.

Skeletons in front, zombies in the back, and no way to enter the side alleys.

If the convoy tried to enter, the narrow roads would leave them no chance to move forward.

"Find a building, park by it, and we'll hide inside!" the man said.

He took a deep breath, grabbed the walkie-talkie, and continued, "There's danger up ahead, the road's blocked. Prepare to pull over. The combat team will get out and clear the zombies, covering the others as they enter the building."

Creak~!

The convoy began to slow down collectively.

The doors opened, and the men, hastily equipped with makeshift gear, rushed out with weapons.

They hacked down the zombies lunging at them.

Meanwhile, the rest of the group grabbed some essentials and were escorted into a nearby building's hallway.

With a bang, the green iron door slammed shut.

...

Meanwhile.

Wu Heng and Li Yanhong watched as the convoy pulled over and rushed into the building.

The path they had cleared with the skeleton army was completely ignored.

For these survivors.

Hiding in the hallway against the zombie horde.

Was merely delaying death.

The hallway door couldn't stop the zombies, let alone the second-tier mutated zombies.

But it was understandable.

No survivors who had encountered the skeleton army so far had been unafraid.

The people from the repair shop had gradually accepted the skeletons.

But even when talking to the skeletons, they had a strange way of addressing them.

For example, calling them Big-Head Bro or Spear Bro.

They even managed to give them respectful names.

"Let's not worry about them for now."

Li Yanhong put down the walkie-talkie, her gaze returning to the front.

The massive zombie horde surged toward them from afar.

The numbers were far greater than any previous battle.

Wu Heng scanned the horde with his eyes.

This horde likely encompassed all the zombies in the entire district.

A horde of this size would be too much for any other local shelter to handle.

"The number... it's overwhelming!" Li Yanhong's face looked even worse than when she was stabbed earlier, and her hands trembled as they gripped the door.

Wu Heng remained silent, his gaze fixed on the distance.

He calculated the distance the zombies were closing in, "Prepare to throw spears!"

Clatter~!

The skeletons took out steel bars, preparing to throw them upward.

As the target rapidly approached.

Wu Heng gave the next order, "Release!"

Whoosh~!

The steel bars whistled through the air, like an iron net, landing amidst the charging zombie horde.

A large number of zombies were knocked to the ground.

The zombies running behind them tripped over the fallen ones, tumbling like a rolling snowball.

The bloodied, fallen zombies quickly scrambled to their feet.

Charging forward again.

Bringing with them a putrid stench.

"Spear formation!"

The skeleton soldiers quickly stepped forward, crouching with spears extended.

Thud, thud, thud~!

The zombie horde collided with the spears, their bodies impaled, dying instantly.

But there were too many zombies, and the corpses piled up, one after another.

The dead bodies were skewered, pushing the skeletons back as more zombies lunged forward.

The skeletons continued thrusting their spears.

Attacking with steady, relentless movements.

Killing their targets.

.....

Wu Heng grabbed the edge of the truck door with one hand, leaning out as he scanned the horde for specific targets.

His eyes quickly swept over the scene.

He spotted several types of second-tier mutated zombies in the horde.

Including 'Tanks' similar to Big Guy, wall-climbing 'Geckos,' and some fast-running mutated dogs.

The zombies were indeed evolving toward a higher level of intelligence.

Gathering together to form a more terrifying force.

Wu Heng looked repeatedly, but he didn't see any sign of the 'Big-Head Zombie.'

But in this situation, there was no way the Big-Head Zombie wasn't present.

It was probably short, hiding somewhere in the middle of the horde.

A thought occurred to him.

The ghost Xiaoxiao flew out of his body.

Floating in mid-air with one arm propped under her chin, lounging lazily, she asked, "Uncle, what now?"

Wu Heng said, "This time, I have a very important task for you."

"Tell me!"

"See that zombie horde over there?"

"Yeah!"

"There's a zombie with a particularly large head but a short body in that horde. Find it." Wu Heng gestured with his hand above his own head.

"You mean like Big-Head Skeleton over there?" Xiaoxiao glanced at the Big-Head Skeleton sitting in the backseat.

"Exactly!"

He had forgotten that they had an example right beside them.

"Alright, I'm great at finding those."

Xiaoxiao spun in the air once before flying toward the horde, gradually fading and disappearing.

.....

Up ahead.

The zombie horde continued surging like waves.

Wave after wave crashing against the skeleton army.

Zombies died in large numbers, but the skeletons also began to take losses.

"More zombies are coming from over there too." Li Yanhong pointed to the distance.

Wu Heng looked over and saw more zombie groups emerging from the side roads, attempting to flank the skeletons.

This confirmed that there had to be a Big-Head Zombie commanding them.

Ordinary zombies wouldn't be capable of such tactical maneuvers.

"Send two groups of cleaver-wielding skeletons to block the zombies on both sides," Wu Heng ordered.

On each side, a thousand cleaver-wielding skeletons split off and charged toward the zombies in the side streets.

Like two swarms of ants, they collided head-on with the zombies.

Bodies tumbled and rolled en masse.

Whoosh~ Bang!

Second-tier mutated zombies flung shared bikes into the skeleton ranks.

The bikes smashed into the skeletons, scattering their bones everywhere.

Big Guy and Second Big Guy did the same, hurling bikes and trash cans toward the zombies.

Crushing rows of zombies.

The battle turned into a war of attrition.

It was now a contest of who had more numbers and whose forces would fall first.

.....

Meanwhile.

Inside the Changyingzi shelter, the survivors had sealed the hallway door and killed the zombies inside.

They rushed toward the top floor.

They reached a locked iron door.

Someone immediately pulled out a crowbar from their backpack.

They jammed it into the lock and pried it open.

With a loud crack.

The old lock broke, and the iron door was pushed open.

The group quickly rushed onto the rooftop.

They could hear the zombies roaring below more clearly, along with the sound of bones being crushed like vegetables.

There was no time to check what was happening below, so the leader quickly issued orders.

"Xiaolong, check the zombies' movements. The rest of you, build a rope ladder to the next building."

The group split up and began following the orders.

One team threw ropes toward the railing of the adjacent building, intending to build a rope ladder.

It was dangerous, but there was no other option.

Xiaolong lay on the edge.

Looking down below.

After just one glance, his brow furrowed.

He checked several more times before quietly calling out, "Big Brother, Big Brother..."

"If you've got something to say, spit it out, don't yell!"

"Come quick, the zombies aren't chasing us. We don't need to rush."

The others paused.

They immediately moved closer to the edge, crouching low to peer down.

The entire road below was packed with figures.

On one side were snarling zombies, and on the other side were skeleton warriors, pale and hollow, holding weapons.

The two armies clashed in the middle.

Flesh and bones flew in all directions.

The bodies piled up beneath them, forming a small hill.

"They're fighting each other; no one's paying attention to us," someone said.

"Yeah, I was wondering why the zombies weren't pounding on the door. Turns out, they're not on the same side as the skeletons."

"Whew! We don't need to hurry. They'll be fighting for a while."

The middle-aged man nodded, "Let's take a break. Once they're busy fighting, we'll leave from the back."

"Got it!" A few people gathered in a circle, quickly grabbing a bite to eat.

Some quietly sobbed, mourning the companions they lost along the way.

That's just the way the world is now—people die every day while scavenging for supplies.

But those who remain have to keep on living.

"Big Brother, look over there. That vehicle in the middle of the skeletons—it's not a wreck. I think someone just got out," Xiaolong called again.

The middle-aged man frowned and looked over.

Sure enough, there was a modified truck in the middle.

The road was filled with wrecked vehicles, so it had gone unnoticed at first.

He took a closer look.

He spotted a woman in an anti-stab vest climbing onto the truck, carrying down several plastic barrels.

"There really is someone."

"Could she be from the repair shop? Wasn't it a woman who contacted us?"

The others widened their eyes, sharing looks of disbelief.

The repair shop is this powerful?

They can control skeletons and are directly facing off against the zombie horde?

.....

"Gasoline barrels!" Wu Heng said.

"I'll grab them!" Li Yanhong jumped out of the truck, glancing at the woman huddled in the corner as she entered the back.

She retrieved the barrels of gasoline.

Wu Heng called over Big Guy and Second Big Guy.

He had them throw the barrels in the direction of the zombie horde.

Bang, bang, bang~!

The plastic barrels shattered.

The strong smell of gasoline quickly spread through the air.

Mixing with the foul stench of the zombies, it created a nauseating odor.

Wu Heng aimed at the sky and cast [Fireball].

The fireball turned into a stream of flames, crashing down on the zombie horde, igniting the gasoline and setting the area ablaze.

The zombies in the central zone were engulfed by the flames, creating a vacuum barrier between the two forces.

At the same time, Xiaoxiao flew back from the distance.

She said excitedly, "Uncle, I found it! That big-headed zombie you were talking about is hiding in one of the cars over there. It's not outside."
