Chapter 195: Help My People
[Your level has increased to Level 8, Intelligence +1, Charisma +1.]
[Unlocked Specialties: Soul Knowledge, Haunting Knowledge.]
[Soul Knowledge]: Your knowledge of souls has been enhanced. Your own soul becomes more resilient, and you can see soul entities and incorporeal beings with the naked eye.
[Haunting Knowledge]: You have gained deeper insights into control-based knowledge and are skilled in dealing with various haunting phenomena like ghosts and spirits, Charisma +5.
The sudden prompt caught Wu Heng by surprise.
He had reached Level 8 and unlocked two specialties.
Unlike the slow leveling at the beginning.
Now, every battle involved fighting hordes of zombies, sometimes in the thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, a vast swarm.
After each battle, the experience gained increased rapidly.
After almost every battle, there was a significant boost in experience.
If it were just a regular zombie fight, it would feel like a hack-and-slash game.
Wu Heng looked at the prompt again.
At Level 8, the stat increases were still in Intelligence and Charisma.
It seems that the Necromancer class's main attributes are Intelligence, Charisma, and Constitution. These three stats appeared with each level-up.
Besides the stat increase this time, two specialties were unlocked.
[Soul Knowledge] and [Haunting Knowledge].
The first specialty, 'Soul Knowledge,' made his soul more resilient, which could be understood as an increase in soul strength.
This was quite important.
The Book of Necromancy recorded that some attacks specifically targeted the soul.
These kinds of attacks could cause someone's soul to scatter even if their body remained unharmed.
A resilient soul could prevent these types of attacks, offering a layer of protection.
Additionally, thinking of the worst-case scenario.
A strong soul would mean that even if he died, he could at least become a ghost like Xiaoxiao and Glenda.
Although he'd lose his body, at least he'd still be "alive."
Not a bad deal.
Moreover, Soul Knowledge allowed him to see soul entities and incorporeal beings with the naked eye.
This could also be seen as an enhancement to his perception.
With that thought, he summoned the ghost Xiaoxiao.
"What now?" Xiaoxiao asked curiously, half-lying in the air.
The soul was parasitic inside him, like a creature resting at night.
It nourished her spirit on its own.
She seemed a bit groggy, like someone woken up too early.
"Xiaoxiao, go invisible." Wu Heng said.
Xiaoxiao glanced at him in confusion before slowly disappearing in mid-air.
Wu Heng kept watching.
Although Xiaoxiao's body vanished into the air, he could still see her faint outline.
Adding in his previously awakened [Soul Sense], he could clearly see her presence.
"What's wrong?" Xiaoxiao asked while invisible.
"Change positions," Wu Heng said.
Xiaoxiao flew around in a circle, saying, "Where am I?" from the left side, before quickly flying to the right.
Wu Heng's eyes followed her, "You're here!"
"Ah!" Xiaoxiao gasped in surprise, slowly reappearing. "Uncle, you can see me!"
"Yeah, just recently." Wu Heng replied.
It seemed his awakened specialty was quite useful, as he could see invisible ghosts now.
Xiaoxiao cheerfully praised him before floating above the battlefield to cheer on the fighting skeletons.
Wu Heng turned his attention to the second specialty, [Haunting Knowledge].
This one was simpler. It gave deeper insights into control-based magic and was particularly useful for dealing with ghosts and haunting phenomena, while also adding 5 points to Charisma.
Control-based spells corresponded to the Charisma stat.
He might gather some corresponding skill books when the opportunity arises.
This specialty also increased Charisma by 5 points, which wasn't bad.
After checking both specialties, he casually opened his character sheet.
[Name: Wu Heng]
[Level: 8]
[Attributes: Strength 24, Agility 25, Constitution 25, Intelligence 28, Perception 15, Charisma 26.]
[Specialties: Spear Mastery (Basic), Sword Mastery (Basic), Light Armor Mastery (Basic), Arcane Training, Soul Knowledge, Haunting Knowledge.]
[Abilities: Gray Eagle Swordsmanship (Beginner), Enhanced Will, Soul Sense.]
[Skills: Raise Skeleton, … Bone Armor, Corpse Prison.]
Looking at his overall stats, his Intelligence had finally taken the lead.
It was no longer like before, where Constitution and Strength were higher than Intelligence.
After a brief glance, he closed the character sheet and refocused on the battlefield ahead.
......
The battle between both sides was nearing its conclusion.
After several rounds of charges, the zombie horde had been almost entirely wiped out by the skeleton forces.
Wu Heng scanned the battlefield.
Neither the battlefield nor the piles of corpses showed any signs of mutated zombies.
According to the map, the red-circled area indicated special dangers.
But judging from the current situation, nothing particularly dangerous had been found.
"Uncle, there are bad dogs over there." Xiaoxiao suddenly flew back, pointing toward a distant alley.
Wu Heng looked in that direction, but the view was blocked by wrecked cars, so he couldn't see anything.
But when Xiaoxiao mentioned bad dogs, she usually meant mutated hounds.
"How many?" Wu Heng asked.
"Two, they're sneaking around over there."
"Good job, Xiaoxiao."
"Hehe."
The battle continued, with the skeletons still taking down the scattered zombies.
Wu Heng lowered his voice and said, "Bagdong, take a few skeletons and circle around from that side. Don't let the mutated hounds escape."
Without hesitation, Bagdong led a group of skeletons around from the back.
Once Xiaoxiao signaled from the air.
Wu Heng gave the order, "Charge!"
Big Guy instantly hurled two trash cans, smashing them into the alley entrance.
The startled mutated hounds turned and bolted toward the back of the alley.
But they only managed a few steps before their path was blocked by a few figures.
Turning back, they saw their other route was also cut off.
The two mutated hounds let out angry howls.
Then they lunged forward.
Bagdong lashed out with a kick, slamming the two mutated hounds against the wall.
The skeletons behind him swarmed, hacking them into mush.
......
The battle ended.
The skeletons began cleaning up the battlefield.
The two mutated hounds were dragged out as well.
Wu Heng used [Raise Skeleton] to transform them into skeletal hounds, and also retrieved two corpse cores.
He stored them in his space ring and continued to cast[Battlefield of the Dead] several times over the zombie horde to replenish the skeleton numbers.
Then, he reopened the map to find the next red-circled location.
"Let's go, this way!"
With a wave, he led the skeletons off in another direction.
......
Dusk.
In front of the market.
The skeleton army had wiped out the zombie horde and began cleaning up the battlefield.
In the span of an afternoon.
Wu Heng had visited three red-circled areas on the map.
He had killed more than ten thousand zombies and also taken down three mutated hounds and two mutated cats.
A few managed to escape at the start of the battle.
They couldn't be caught.
The harvest was still significant though, with experience gained, more skeletons added, and five first-tier corpse cores collected.
Potions made from corpse cores were effective for others in both worlds.
Even though they didn't do much for him anymore.
They were still very useful for training his subordinates.
Wu Heng glanced at the sky.
He decided to skip the fourth clearing location.
He still had to participate in the night patrol, and maintaining a good condition was necessary in case any danger arose.
"Carry the bodies, let's head back!" Wu Heng ordered.
The skeletons hoisted the corpses and began following him back to the hotel where they were staying.
The situation in Rentam City had put some pressure on him.
Pushing him to speed up his leveling process.
To prepare for the possible dangers ahead.
On the way back to the hotel.
He had the skeletons stack the corpses on the opposite side of the road.
Returning to his room, he passed through the portal back home.
......
Rentam City, third-floor bedroom.
Wu Heng came downstairs and heard voices from the first floor.
Minnie and Andviel were already preparing dinner.
The two maids he had bought together were getting along well.
Minnie accompanied Andviel to the shop during the day, and when they returned, Andviel helped Minnie with cooking and cleaning.
They had a good relationship.
Seeing Wu Heng come down, Minnie smiled. "Master, is Sister Wen Mansa coming tonight?"
"Probably not, she's busy on her end."
"Oh." Minnie's smile noticeably relaxed. "Master, please wait a little while. Dinner will be ready soon."
"Alright." Wu Heng nodded and lay down on the couch to rest.
He had spent the morning at the meeting and leading his team on patrol.
In the afternoon, he had been clearing out zombies, so he was mentally exhausted.
Lying on the couch, he rested for a while.
Thud thud thud~!
Footsteps sounded, and Andviel came out of the kitchen first.
She stood in front of the couch and glanced at him cautiously. "Master."
Wu Heng frowned, "What is it?"
Andviel knelt down immediately.
"Master, I beg you, please help my people."
