Chapter 228: Just One Kiss, and I'll Give You 40%
"You placed magical devices outside?"
"And they can provide lighting."
If it were someone else, she wouldn't be too interested.
But if it's Wu Heng, it piques his curiosity, making him wonder what surprising thing he has done now.
"What kind of magical device?" Slater asked.
"It's like a light stone, but much brighter, so bright it's almost blinding," Yuli described with effort.
Slater thought for a moment, but couldn't recall such a magical device.
"Let's go check it out together."
"Alright!"
The two of them went downstairs and, with their guard, headed towards the city gate.
From a distance, they could already see the bright lights illuminating a large area, casting a white circular ring in the middle of the road.
Above the light source, a flock of tamed beasts circled around.
Below, more people had gathered, sitting in the bright area, chatting and discussing.
The place was packed with people.
Occasionally, they saw some vendors with baskets selling dried fruit and beer.
"See? It's way livelier than Blackstone Town," Yuli said loudly.
Slater frowned as she looked at the skeletons guarding the area and the blinding light, feeling even more astonished.
What else is he up to in this city?
"Let's go back."
After a glance, Slater returned to their lodging.
She opened the sealed envelope and added a section describing the special magical device before sealing it again.
......
The next day, on the streets.
"Aren't you hot?" Yuli asked, arms full of various snacks, eating as she spoke.
Early in the morning, Yuli dragged Wu Heng out to explore the streets of the city.
Along the way, they visited several shops, and her hands quickly filled with snacks.
Most of them were special orc delicacies, like grilled meat, grilled lizards, and two meat pies.
If Wu Heng hadn't stopped her, she would have bought even more.
"Can't help it, I'm a city lord now. I have to keep a low profile," Wu Heng said, adjusting his helmet.
Most people only knew that the new half-city lord was a Guild captain with black hair, but didn't know any other features.
Wu Heng disguised himself a bit, and besides the people who knew him, no one really paid attention.
The only downside was that the weather was too hot.
His head was drenched in sweat.
"Tch!" Yuli scoffed, then continued, "What's that glowing magical device called?"
"You mean the street lamps?"
"Such an expensive device, and you put it outside?"
"It's for outdoor lighting."
"Isn't that a waste?"
"It's just an experiment. We'll see how it goes."
They wandered around the city for a while, and by noon, they stopped at a nearby tavern for lunch.
Then they went straight back to the Guild.
In the resting room.
Yuli sat behind the desk with a pile of comics in front of her, "Go ahead, I'll write it down."
Wu Heng, comparing with the comic, read aloud, "There was a man who possessed all the wealth, power, and fame in the world. He was the Pirate King…"
"Oh, oh, slow down," Yuli said as she began to jot down notes beside the comic.
She had already finished reading the entire comic.
But since she couldn't understand the text, she could only guess the general meaning.
This time, she was determined to have Wu Heng translate it so she could re-read the plot.
After writing more than twenty pages.
Yuli threw the pen aside.
"Too tiring. You write."
"I write too slowly, I can't either."
Knock, knock~
The door knocked again.
Slater opened the door and walked in.
"Yuli, go get ready. You're coming to a banquet with me tonight."
"Huh? But I'm already full!"
"Go!"
"Oh, fine!"
Yuli carefully packed up her comics, gave Wu Heng a glance, and left the room.
......
The door closed, leaving only the two of them.
Slater still looked at him curiously.
She asked, "That glowing thing, did you set it up in the city?"
Wu Heng had nothing to hide and directly said, "Yes, I'm planning to install more. Rentam City is at the border between two races. If we can extend the nighttime, it will greatly help with trade. I want to turn this place into a city that never goes dark at night."
"The whole city will stay bright all night?"
"Yes, you've seen the effect. It's actually not hard. Just put more of these devices in the city, and it can be done," Wu Heng said with a smile.
Slater crossed her legs and thought for a moment, then said, "Are you sure it can be done? The original city lord won't cause you any trouble?"
"What trouble? Kill me? Would the Guild allow something like that to happen?" Wu Heng retorted.
He wouldn't dare kill the city lord, fearing he'd end up on the Guild's wanted list.
The other party would also have to consider the consequences. Killing a Guild captain was something they couldn't afford.
As for assassination attempts, with Wu Heng's current strength, it would be difficult for them to succeed.
So even if there were conflicts between them, it wouldn't escalate to the point of military confrontation.
After a moment of thought, Slater directly said, "I'm planning to open a Golden Cat in your district. What do you think?"
Wu Heng was taken aback but immediately understood.
She saw the potential in the city and wanted to establish a business here.
"You're more than welcome. The income here will be several times higher than in Blackstone Town," Wu Heng said.
Slater raised an eyebrow, clearly agreeing with him.
"What about the building?"
"I can provide the building and interior decoration, and I can install those day-and-night lighting devices indoors to create a city that never sleeps."
"A city that never sleeps?" Hearing that term, an image of a bright, never-darkening city immediately appeared in Slater's mind.
"How do we split the profits?"
"Seventy-thirty," Wu Heng thought for a moment and said.
Slater frowned, "Isn't that a bit unfair to you?"
Wu Heng was also surprised and said, "I take seventy, you take thirty."
"Why? I'm opening the branch, and you want seventy percent?" Slater immediately countered.
"I'm providing the location, the equipment, and handling the local security and personnel safety. You just need to provide management expertise. Based on investment, you'd only get ten percent. Giving you an extra twenty percent is out of sentiment," Wu Heng said directly.
Slater was initially angry at his words, but by the end, her face turned red.
She glanced at the door and, seeing nothing out of place, turned back and glared at him, "What nonsense are you talking about?"
"Managing this city isn't easy. In most places, the city lord taking seventy percent wouldn't be unreasonable," Wu Heng continued.
Slater frowned again and said, "But thirty percent is too low. It's not like you can just find anyone to perform. Without me, you'd only be opening a regular tavern."
Wu Heng didn't deny that.
In Blackstone Town, Golden Cat was a high-end entertainment venue, famous even in the nearby towns.
And with the Guild's recognition of her, it was clear that Slater had excellent business acumen.
"I'm also taking on a lot of risk," Wu Heng said.
"I'll take forty percent, manage the operations and internal personnel, and you handle the buildings and security. You take sixty percent," Slater said.
Wu Heng looked at her, thought for a moment, and said, "I can agree to that, but you have to give me something in return."
"What return?" Slater frowned.
Wu Heng pointed to his lips.
Slater's face tensed, "Don't mess around."
"Just one kiss, and I'll give you forty percent," Wu Heng said.
Slater took a deep breath.
After hesitating for a moment, she tightly closed the door, slowly walked over, and gave him a quick peck on the lips, blushing.
Just as she was about to step away, her waist was pulled tight.
A pair of large hands brought her back, and he kissed her deeply.
The strong scent of masculinity immediately enveloped her.
Slater's body trembled, and after instinctively responding twice, she turned her head away, seriously saying, "Stop messing around, someone might see us."
Wu Heng still held her soft waist, gently saying, "Sister, we haven't seen each other in so long."
Slater blushed even more, her body growing warmer as she replied, "But we can't do it here."
"It's fine. At this time, no one will come."
Wu Heng lifted her waist and placed her on the desk.
Slater was startled, pressing her hands against the desk, turning her head away in frustration, "Are you crazy?"
Wu Heng pressed forward, towering over her, "If we wait any longer, someone really might catch us."
On the desk in the resting room?
Slater was stunned, but before she could say anything, her lips were sealed.
As they pressed closer together, both found it hard to control their emotions.
After some gentle persuasion, she was laid down on the desk.
One by one, her leather armor pieces were removed and tossed aside, with her boots hanging off the edge, swaying in the air.
......
Meanwhile, in the residential area of the western outer district.
Two cloaked figures stepped out of a carriage.
After cautiously scanning the surroundings, they approached a residence and knocked on the door.
Knock, knock, knock~
The door opened, and an elderly human woman poked her head out.
She glanced at the two of them and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
The man in front forced a smile and said, "We're friends of 'Burke.' We agreed to meet a few days ago…"
Before he could finish, the old woman started sobbing softly.
In between sobs, she said, "The damned Warhammer Party, they killed Bourke, they actually killed him…"
She then broke down in tears.
The two exchanged glances, seeing confusion and surprise in each other's eyes.
Killed by the Warhammer Party?
How could that be?
They quickly realized something was wrong, glanced around, and without saying another word, turned and left.
By the time the old woman looked up again, the two were already gone.
She cursed under her breath and closed the door.
Across the street, a man carrying a basket of fruit.
Quickly set his things aside.
And quietly followed the two who had just left.
