Chapter 299, "Your Dish Is Ready"
There were two armored vehicles in total, overturned in the middle of the road, their surfaces covered in claw marks and bloodstains.
The thick layer of grime barely revealed the military green color of the original vehicle.
A few people approached, circling around the armored vehicles for a closer look.
The armored vehicles were wheeled, each side equipped with three massive tires; one of them was armed with a machine cannon and a machine gun.
The other vehicle was longer, with only a machine gun mounted on the top.
"Do you know anything about this?" Wu Heng asked Li Yanhong and the others.
The rest of them shook their heads.
After all, military equipment wasn't something ordinary people had much access to.
Unless they were military enthusiasts, they wouldn't know the models or their functions.
Seeing that nobody was familiar, Wu Heng continued, "Check the vehicles, see if we can drive them."
"Got it!"
The doors were already open.
It seemed like the people inside had tried to break out and left on foot.
Li Yanhong and Qiangzi, along with the others, went inside to check the condition of the armored vehicles.
Qi Hancai, however, stayed beside Wu Heng without going over.
"Does this mean the military tried to rescue the city?" Qi Hancai asked.
Wu Heng remembered the two military vehicles he found at 'Bifeng Life Plaza', which also carried supplies.
They might have been part of the same convoy.
"It's possible they were trying to evacuate. Given the current situation, it's unlikely they were coming in to rescue anyone," Wu Heng said.
Qi Hancai glanced at him and nodded in agreement.
It would be hard to find anyone else like Wu Heng who could go head-to-head with the zombie horde.
At that moment, Qiangzi and the others came over, carrying a heavy sniper rifle and several boxes of ammunition.
"Boss, take a look at this," Qiangzi said, hefting the sniper rifle.
Barrett~!
Wu Heng raised an eyebrow.
This type of anti-material sniper rifle was famous on the internet and in video games.
He hadn't expected to see one here.
This was a foreign gun, right?
Was it in use domestically as well?
"Where'd you find it?" Wu Heng asked.
"In the back of that vehicle. It seems to be a transport truck with rows of seats and these weapons," Qiangzi explained.
The others also placed the ammunition boxes on the ground.
They opened the boxes, revealing ammo for machine cannons, machine guns, and rifles.
"Anything else in the vehicle?"
"No, Sister Hong had us bring everything to you."
Wu Heng nodded, "Can the vehicle be driven?"
"Uh, Sister Hong's checking it now. I'll go ask her," Qiangzi said, placing the rifle on the ground and heading back toward the armored vehicle.
Wu Heng waved his hand, storing the Barrett and the ammunition in his spatial ring.
Qi Hancai, standing nearby, widened her eyes in disbelief.
Her face was full of astonishment.
Soon, Li Yanhong returned and said, "This one is damaged, but with some simple repairs, we can drive it back."
"Got the keys?"
Li Yanhong replied, "No keys needed for this kind of vehicle. Let's flip it over first."
Wu Heng nodded, and after Li Yanhong and the others secured the tow ropes to the armored vehicle, he ordered the skeleton army to pull it back upright.
Then they began repairs while Wu Heng and the skeletons continued down the road for a bit.
They didn't find any other wrecked military vehicles.
Once the armored vehicle was fixed, Wu Heng signaled for everyone to get back on the bus and head back to the hotel.
......
On the way.
Li Yanhong glanced at the armored vehicles through the rearview mirror and asked, "What are you planning to do with these two?"
"What's your suggestion?"
Li Yanhong said, "It would be best to assign one to the market at the bus station. Whether it's armed with ammunition or not, just having it there would be enough to deter certain people."
The Flame God Shelter gained its current status largely because it had armored vehicles and a lot of weapons.
They drove armored vehicles wherever they went, which made other shelters more cooperative with their actions.
The auto repair shop shelter could benefit from the same approach.
Although they weren't worried about anyone trying to steal from them, having an armored vehicle on display would be enough to keep the more restless survivors in check.
Wu Heng thought for a moment and said, "Alright, I'll keep one, and the other can be stationed at the bus station. I'll have the skeletons man the machine guns."
"Great! Which one are you keeping? I'll have someone clean it up and bring it back."
"The one with the machine cannon."
"Got it!"
Back at the hotel.
The scavenging team had already filled the trucks with supplies.
A group of people surrounded the armored vehicle, discussing and analyzing it.
Some military enthusiasts were even providing explanations of its model and function.
Li Yanhong gave Qiangzi and the others instructions to take the supply convoy back first.
They would bring the armored vehicle along the next day during the second scavenging run.
Qiangzi and the others nodded, called everyone onto the trucks, and the convoy set off.
......
The sky gradually darkened.
Li Yanhong emerged from the guest room's bathroom, wrapped in a towel.
Her tanned skin glistened with beads of water.
With the continued use of potions, her skin had become firmer, though the tone hadn't changed.
As she dried her damp hair, she sat on Wu Heng's lap.
"What's the deal with that bathtub? How can it heat itself?"
Wu Heng wrapped his arm around her waist, "It's like a self-heating hotpot."
Li Yanhong blinked in surprise, then smiled broadly, "Well then, Master, your dish is ready, and it's piping hot for you to enjoy."
"I'll make sure to savor it." Wu Heng stood up, lifting her into his arms, spinning her around.
Li Yanhong squealed, wrapping herself around him like an octopus. Her towel slipped off, exposing her skin.
After spinning a couple of times, Wu Heng cupped her face and kissed her deeply.
The two of them tumbled onto the bed together.
......
The next day, Li Yanhong left.
Wu Heng also returned to Gold-Silver Island.
Minnie bragged about her painting talent for a while before running off to Shanera's place again.
After breakfast, Wu Heng headed to his guild office.
He pushed the door open and walked in.
Andviel greeted him with a smile, "Master."
"Everything alright yesterday?"
"Yes, everything was perfectly normal."
"Good, here's the potion from last time. Go ahead and drink it." Wu Heng handed her a tier-1 corpse core potion.
Andviel and Minnie had both taken these enhancement potions before.
They knew their value well.
"Thank you, Master," Andviel said joyfully, taking the potion and kissing him on the cheek.
"Drink it now. I'll watch you."
Andviel nodded, sat down, and uncorked the bottle before drinking it down in one go.
After swallowing the potion.
She curled up on the sofa in discomfort, her body trembling.
Wu Heng walked over and gently patted her back.
Soon, her body relaxed, and she stood up, stretching.
"I can feel that my body has improved again."
"As long as it works."
"It does. Thank you, Master," Andviel said with a smile.
Right now, it was only a tier-1 potion, but Wu Heng was curious to see if they would awaken any abilities when they started using tier-2 potions.
This world had professionals, but it seemed no one had awakened any powers yet.
"I'm heading out. If nothing comes up this afternoon, come home early."
"Yes, Master."
Leaving the guild, Wu Heng called for a carriage.
He headed back to Lighthouse Street.
......
Entering Lighthouse Street.
The carriage stopped in front of the Barrel Tavern.
Wu Heng entered the tavern and followed the stairs down to a semi-underground room.
The guards at the door blocked his way.
Wu Heng said, "I'm here to buy some intel from Lady McIntosh."
From inside the room, a woman's voice called out.
"Let him in. You can't stop him anyway."
