"What did he say?" Layla asked her mother-in-law.

Evelina hesitated, torn between telling Layla the truth and keeping her in the dark. But lying wasn't an option—not when the stakes were so high.

There was no way she could take Layla outside with her, not when Lucius would never allow it. Yet, if she didn't act quickly, Vladimir would make good on his threats. Her family in London would be in danger.

"Say something," Layla pressed, her brows knitting together in concern.

Taking a deep breath, Evelina finally spoke. "Layla, Vladimir wants to see you." Her voice trembled slightly, her fear was evident in her voice. "Please, you have to come outside with me. If you don't, Vladimir will harm my family in London. I beg you." She clasped her hands together while being desperate.
