As Emerald approached Lindsay's apartment, tension escalated. Lindsay smiled softly. "Thanks for walking me home." Emerald's mask slipped, revealing vulnerability, but it vanished, replaced by stoicism.
No problem," Emerald replied, turning to leave. Lindsay's voice halted her. "Emerald?"Emerald turned, her eyes narrowing.
"You're not as tough as you seem." Emerald's expression froze. Lindsay's words lingered, echoing through Emerald's mind like a challenge. In her bathroom, Emerald watched herself in the mirror, scars from years of training and being an elite assassin on full display.
Memories flooded her mind, reminding her of the past that made her who she was.
A shotgun blows in their direction, and the woman who shares the same eye with Emerald quickly shields Emerald with her body, taking the hit herself. Despite the pain, she managed to disarm the shooter and protect Emerald from harm.
She still put three more, while Emerald was already on the floor.
''Asten!! ''Emerald, when she saw the woman, got shot again.
''Stay down!! ''Asten screamed.
''Stay down!! ''Asten screamed.
''Run, Riley, run!!! ''Asten, who has the same features as her, called her again by another name. Riley could smell something weird, and then she heard a peculiar vacuum sound before everything went black.
''I'm sorry, Riley. I'm so sorry," Asten whispered, her voice trembling with fear, not for herself but for the 10-year-old Emerald.
Emerald's small hands tried to hold the woman. "I won't leave you!" Emerald screamed, but Asten's grip was torn from hers.
Emerald stumbled backward, watching in horror as the men dragged Asten away. Then, everything went black.
Emerald's eyes fluttered open to find herself in a burning room. Flames licked at her skin, and she felt heat searing her back. She tried to move, but her body felt heavy and unresponsive.
As she lay there, she heard Asten's voice whispering in her ear. "I'm sorry, Emerald. I'm so sorry.
And then there was nothing. She woke in an unfamiliar room, and that was the first time she saw the face of Robert.' Asten,' she whispered as her grip on the sink tightened.
That's when she hears a beep that indicates a breach.
Meanwhile,
'' It's me.'
''' Hi''
''I'm the problem; it's me.''
'' At teatime, everybody agrees!!!''
Music blasting all over Lindsay's apartment Emerald covered her face with her watching Lindsay in a bathrobe, fresh from the bath, singing along to Taylor Swift's song while dancing and throwing things like she's having a concert of her own, using the hair dryer as her mic.
And there she concluded that's what the motion detector detected. Emerald sighed. But find it cute. What could be the reason for this woman's enthusiasm and energy?
But when she was about to get away from the tab monitor, she saw Emily Jameson standing outside Lindsay's door. The detective looked in the direction of Emerald's apartment door, and she seemed to be looking at something.
Emerald quickly realized that Emily was watching her through the security camera feed. But it's impossible unless she sees something unusual.
Right at that moment, a figure suddenly appeared behind her and tried to stab her, but she already sensed it.
Emerald calmly dodged the attack and grabbed the attacker's arm, disarming them in a swift motion.
And stab the man gracefully without even breaking a sweat. The attacker fell to the ground, unconscious.
She pushed a button on her watch, and her whole apartment lights turned off; the only source of light was from the outside.
She closed her eyes and threw the knife in random directions.
''Uckk.'' The knife pierced another attacker's throat, and when it was about to fall, Emerald caught the man with care and gently laid him on the ground.
She gracefully got the knife again; it didn't make a sound.
Emerald moved like a shadow as she walked through the hallway, she threw the knife again, and it pierced directly into a man's chest, killing him in an instant.
Again, Emerald did the same thing, catching the victim and putting the body gently on the ground.
Two men holding a pistol saw the body in the hallway.
They stared at each other.
It's a sign that Emerald is there; they carefully aim in a direction when they see a flash of movement in the corner of their eyes.
But before they can move Emerald again, she gracefully moves.
''Ack.'' The knife made a hole in the back of the man's neck through his throat; he even touched the point of the knife before passing out.
Emerald used her right foot not letting the body make an impact on the ground.
Emerald got the knife out of the man's body again just to see a trembling man pee on his pants, holding a gun but not moving.
Emerald then chants a phrase.
''Mercy is for the weak; the wicked don't deserve mercy, for I kill for a purpose, and anything that blocks that purpose should perish.''
And with that, Emerald grabbed the man's gun and put it at her back; she went to his back, covered the man's mouth, and smoothly sliced the man's throat. Before she let the man's body fall to the ground, a tear escaped her eyes.
''Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.''
The blood from the man's sliced throat streamed out and quickly wet his green shirt.
