"Alpha," Kara said, startled. "Luna is not here. She went for a walk". As she poked her head out.
Ghod had gone back home from training and decided to ask Acantha for forgiveness, and as he got back home, he went straight to her room; he knocked, hoping she wouldn't send him away.
"Okay, Kara", he responded.
After searching for her round the mansion, he walked to the training ground and didn't find her there.
Ghod found her in the garden, her back to him; Acantha stood motionless, and the wind blew her hair around her face. The scent of blooming jasmine filled the air, mixing with her familiar scent.
Ghod hesitated, his heart heavy with regret and sorrow.
"Helena," he called softly, his voice almost a whisper.
She stiffened but didn't turn to face him. He took a deep breath and walked closer, his footsteps slow and gentle.
"Helena , I need to talk to you," he said, his tone pleading.
She remained silent, her shoulders tense. Ghod felt a pang of guilt. He had hurt her deeply and knew words might not be enough to mend the wounds.
"I'm sorry," he began, his voice breaking. "I'm so sorry for everything. For the miscarriage, for neglecting you, for causing you pain."
Helena's head lowered slightly, but she still didn't turn around. Ghod's heart ached to see her like this. He took another step closer, the distance between them shorting.
"I should have been there for you," he continued. "I should have protected you, cherished you. But I failed. I let my past, my mistakes, cloud my judgment."
At the mention of mistakes, Acantha's shoulders tensed even more. Ghod paused, gathering his thoughts.
"I know I've hurt you," he said. "I know I've made you feel neglected and unloved. But, Helena, none of this is your fault. It's mine. I take full responsibility for everything that happened."
Finally, Helena turned to face him; tears streamed down her cheeks. Her gaze was filled with hurt and anger.
"You are leaving something out of that apology, Meliana, the woman you brought into the house to cause me pain."
"When you had an affair with her, I never disturbed you, neither did I ask you anything or interfere, Even when I was insulted, but you allowed her to come into my room to kill my baby". Helena said with tears streaming down her face.
Ghod 's heart sank, and he lowered his head.
"I'm sorry" Helena, I didn't mean for all this to happen. She tricked me into letting her stay here, and I swear by the goddess. I have not touched her or anyone else since our consumption. I have sent her away, you already know this"
"Do you mean that,Ghod ?" she asked, her voice trembling. "Do you mean that you haven't been with her?"
He nodded, stepping closer until he was right in front of her. "I mean every word. I should have never let you face all of this alone. I should have been by your side, supporting you, caring for you."
Helena's lip quivered, and she looked away, tears spilling down her cheeks. Ghod reached out, gently cupping her face with his hands, wiping away the tears with his thumbs.
"Please, forgive me," he whispered. "I promise I will never leave you alone again. I will never let anything come between us."
She closed her eyes, leaning into his touch, her tears flowing freely. "It hurt so much, Ghod ," she admitted. "I felt so alone, so abandoned."
Ghod pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly. "I know, and I'm so sorry," he said, his voice choked with emotion. "But I'm here now, and I'm not going anywhere. We'll get through this together."
They stood there in silence for a long moment, wrapped in each other's embrace. Ghod felt a sense of peace he hadn't known in a long time, holding the woman he had made his and had marked.
Helena pulled back slightly, looking up at him with vulnerability. "You promise?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I promise," he replied, his eyes locked onto hers. "I will never leave you alone again. We'll face everything together, as a team, as partners."
She nodded, a small, tentative smile tugging at her lips. "Okay," she said softly. "Okay."
Ghod felt relieved, and He leaned down, kissing her forehead gently. "Thank you," he murmured. "Thank you for giving me another chance."
They spent the rest of the night talking, sitting on the garden bench, sharing their thoughts and feelings. Ghod opened up about his fears and regrets while Shirley spoke of her pain and loneliness. They listened to each other, really listened.
As dawn approached, they had spent the entire day together. Ghod led her to a secluded spot by the river near the mansion, where he often visited. The sound of the rushing water was soothing.
"I have always wanted to bring you here," Ghod said, sitting on the grass and pulling her beside him.
Helena smiled beside him. "wow, I have never been to this part of the mansion."
He chuckled, a warm feeling spreading through him. "It is reserved just for me. It's my place of solitude, where I come to clear my head. Now I'm sharing it with you." He looked at her, and his eyes came down to her lips
She looked up at him "It's peaceful", she said to him, leaning her head on his shoulder. He kissed the top of her head.
They spent hours by the river, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other's company. In the afternoon, they returned to the house.
Ghod decided to cook for her, something he hadn't done in a long time. He wanted to show her how much he cared and what she meant.
As they prepared the meal together, Helena couldn't help but laugh at his attempts to chop vegetables. "You're hopeless," she teased, shaking her head.
"I'm out of practice," he admitted, grinning.
They worked side by side in the kitchen, Their laughter alerting the maids as they gathered around the kitchen to watch them.
When the meal was ready, they sat at the table, candles lit;
"Ghod," Helena said softly, breaking the silence. "Thank you."
He turned to her, his expression puzzled. "For what?"
"For today," she replied. "For being here, apologising, and making me feel important."
He took her hand, intertwining their fingers. "You are important, Helena You are my Luna, and you deserve to be happy. And I will do everything I can to ensure you are."
She leaned in, resting her head on his shoulder. "I believe you," she said.
