Eren looked up, shocked.
"Was it that obvious?" He thought.
He felt like the needles which he was sitting on just broke in half. Eren smiled to cover up his embarrassment.
"You don't need to impress me. Just eat as you like. I will have your personal maid teach you all you need to know." Lady Eva assured.
Eren glared at Eva in annoyance.
Eren later gave up on the cutlery and ate with just the spoon. He tried to eat as much as he could but there was still so much . He wasn't a fan of wasting food because Maya would always scold him if he did.
After they had finished eating, the maids carried the plates away and poured wine into the glass.
"I can't drink this." Eren gasped after noticing what type of wine it was.
"Why not?"Lady Eva asked confused.
"This is the famous Date red wine. A hundred year's worth. It's almost as old as the war." Eren said carefully turning the glass in the light to examine the wine.
"Really?...I had no idea. I didn't expect you to know much about wine." Lady Eva said impressed.
"Oh no, it's just that my dad loved wine. He would buy the ones he could no matter how expensive they were. I remember how mom would get so pissed when he wasted money on wine." Eren said smiling as he recalled those moments.
"Well , that's something I didn't know about Alex."Lady Eva said in a saddened tone. "How is Maya? I mean, how is she doing?Does she still work her butt off every day, denying herself rest?" Lady Eva asked to change the conversation .
"She's fine. At least she was before I left. Now I have no idea of how she's doing."Eren said with a sad expression. "You seem to know a lot about mom and dad." Eren said.
"Yes I do. Your mother was a very close friend of mine and your father was the love of my life." Lady Eva blatantly said.
The wine in Eren's mouth suddenly changed it's course and poured out of Eren's nostrils.
"Are you okey?" She said almost getting out of her seat.
"Yes ...yes I'm fine. Did mom know about this?" Eren asked, wiping his nose and shirt with a napkin.
"Oh ...no, no, it's not like that. He was. Alex chose your mum..." She tried to clear the misunderstanding, "...Your mother was my friend when she was living here." She continued.
"What? Mom was living here?"Eren exclaimed.
"Yes, she was. Your mother is the second daughter of the Maverick household..... she didn't tell you." Lady Eva blurted out like it was nothing, "Oh I'm sorry, was all of that too sudden for you?" She added after seeing the shock on Eren's face.
There was a little silence.
Eren took the glass of wine and finished it in a gulp. He turned to Lady Eva with a serious expression.
" Can I ask you something ma'am?".
"There you go again with the formalities. Please call me auntie and sure, yes, anything. You can ask me anything." She replied, leaning on the table.
"Why did mum send me here? What's going on?... I know you are both hiding something from me." He said looking straight into lady Eva's eyes to see whether he could tell if she was lying.
After a few seconds of a staring match from the opposite sides of the table, Lady Eva sighed.
"You're a smart kid, Eren." She straightened up her back, "I knew hiding this from you was not a good idea. Now, what am I supposed to do? She asked me to keep it a secret." She said and looked at Eren. "I guess I don't have a choice, Alexander Eren." she smiled lightly,
"You know, with the way you talk and your hair colour, you remind me of your father."
"I don't have a lot of memories of my father, so I probably would not understand." Eren said.
"I hadn't heard of either Alex or Maya since they were both exiled. A week ago, I received a bird letter at 1 am. A paper folded into a bird kept hitting the window glass. Something like that undoubtedly was sorcery, but no one would have the courage to send that if it wasn't important, so, I let the bird in. It flew into my hand and unfolded itself. I was happy when I saw that it was Maya, but Alex had died and she needed a favor. She said I didn't need to send a reply because it was too dangerous, and she knew my answer would be yes. When I finished reading, the paper burnt and disappeared." She explained as Eren listened carefully. She took up her glass and sipped a little wine.
"And the favor?"Eren asked curiously.
"She asked me to protect you." She answered trying not to spill too much information.
"Protect me from what?... Please Auntie, I need to know what I'm supposed to be running from." Eren was frustrated.
Lady Eva sighed. ".....you called me auntie..... okay, I'll tell you everything you need to know but I don't think you would want to know " she said to warn him.
"I must ...I can handle it "he said.
"Maya said she was scared.that they would take you away. She didn't tell me who but she said that it was a matter of time before they find you" she said.
Eren's eyes wandered around for some time.
"That can't be all..." He muttered. "...that's not all, is it?" Eren asked narrowing his eyes at Lady Eva. "Why would anyone want to take me away? Why am I so important to these so called people mom's afraid of?" Eren said trying to complete the piece of the puzzle.
"Eren..... when you were young, your father Alex tried to find out what rank sorcerer you are..." Lady Eva suddenly said.
"Yes I'm a yellow aura sorcerer "Eren said trying to change the unnecessary route the conversation was headed, or so he thought.
"The thing is Eren, that's a lie. They lied to you to protect you. Alex, your father used half of his life span to seal your aura so no one would sense it. But unfortunately now that you've grown, it's wearing off. That's why Maya was worried"Lady Eva said trying as hard as she could to be tender. She didn't want him to go blaming himself for his father's death.
"... and mom thought that the best thing to do was to send me to a place crawling with people who hate sorcerers." Eren continued ignoring the part where she said that Alex used his life force to save him.
Lady Eva waited for him to break down but surprisingly he wasn't. This child was some what interesting. All he was concerned on was finding out the truth.
"Like I said, it's wearing off. There's someone who can help you out here." Lady Eva said.
There was a little silence.
"I knew something was wrong. I can grow crude flowers and I have weird dreams." Eren muttered to himself. Right now all the suspicious scenarios in his head where falling in place.
"You can grow crude flowers!" Lady Eva exclaimed. She could make a huge market out of his abilities.
"Shhhh!" Eren suddenly said.
"Why are you shushing me? No one is around." Lady Eva said annoyed.
"The servants are listening" Eren said.
"Why do you think so?" She whispered leaning forward.
"I can see them." He replied. Shocked, lady Eva smiled and rested back on her seat.
"If that's the case, haven't they heard everything?"she said
"No they didn't, I made sure of it."Eren said .
Lady Eva didn't know why, but she was sure it was the right thing to tell Eren the truth.
"There is something you don't know yet..." she decides to drop the bomb shell.
Eren tuned to lady Eva in anticipation.
"You're not a blue aura sorcerer. "She said. In confusion, Eren furrowed his brows.
"You are the violet aura sorcerer. A reincarnation of the great Lord Gaza." Lady Eva finally said with her most serious expression yet.
Eren let out air from his mouth and fell back on the seat, his head facing the ceiling and his eyes staring into space.
