Chapter Sixteen: Catra

Nora helped as she promised she would, and Catra contacted the witch in Wales, using some silver cutlery and a few half-burnt candles.

The witch, Bethan, was suspicious at first, but after Catra mentioned Nora’s name and showed her Daniel’s gold, the woman agreed. The witch was clearly old, and very powerful, and Catra felt hopeful for the first time in three days.

The weather was changing rapidly with Daniel’s transition. His magical field was so strong that everything was going to sh*t. It was summer in Ireland, but dark storm clouds had gathered over the Republic, threatening to crack open and drown them at any moment.

It was no better anywhere else in the Northern Hemisphere. Thunderstorms, hail, floods, and landslides were the order of the day in the United Kingdom and Europe. North America was experiencing snowfall, hail, and hurricanes in July, and the humans were all predicting the end of the world.
