Unexpected Turns

Adrian and Hannah greeted every guest, their elegance and chemistry drawing admiring glances from all around. As Adrian's phone buzzed in his pocket, he glanced at it.

"It's Mia," Adrian said, leaning toward Hannah. "I'll go and welcome her. You stay here with the guests."

Hannah nodded. "Alright, I'll be here."

Just as Adrian stepped away, Hannah's family arrived. Her mother, eyes brimming with pride, clasped Hannah's hands. "You look so beautiful, darling. Just like a queen."

Hannah smiled warmly. "Thank you, Mom."

But Emily, standing off to the side, clenched her fists, jealousy coursing through her veins. How does Hannah always manage this? A millionaire husband— While I... I ended up with just a regular, middle-class guy. She cast a venomous look at Adrian. And this Adrian, the driver's son, now one of the richest men? The bitterness welled up inside her as she thought, I have to do something.

She quickly pulled out her phone and dialed her friend, Lisa. "Hey, are you coming to Adrian's party?" Emily asked, her tone sharp.

"Yeah, I'm almost there," Lisa replied.

"Where are you?"

"Near the car parking."

"Stay there, I'll meet you," Emily said and hung up. I've got a plan, she thought to herself, smirking.

Meanwhile, Adrian had reached the parking lot where Mia was just stepping out of her car.

"Adrian!" Mia called, waving as she walked over. "It's been too long. You look fantastic!"

Adrian smiled warmly. "Mia, it's great to see you." He gestured towards the entrance. "Come on, let's go inside."

Just then, Emily and Lisa appeared, their eyes locking on Adrian and Mia. Emily whispered to Lisa, "Here's your chance. Humiliate him. Make sure Mia hears it too."

Lisa nodded, a sly smile on her lips. She raised her voice. "Hey, driver! Park my car, will you?"

Adrian, who had been speaking with Mia, turned around slowly, his expression calm but piercing. Lisa froze, realizing what she'd done.

"Oh... Adrian," she stammered, her face paling. "I didn't realize it was you. I mean, with everyone dressed so well, I thought you were... um, the valet." She laughed nervously.

Adrian's expression remained calm. "The keys, please," he said softly.

Lisa handed him the keys, flustered. Adrian turned to Mia. "You go ahead inside, Mia. I'll park and be right back."

"No, I'll come with you," Mia insisted, walking alongside him. "Besides, we can catch up some more."

As they approached the car, Mia asked, "How do you stay so calm? That was… insulting."

Adrian shrugged. "It's nothing new. I came from that world, Mia. I used to park cars for a living. So what if they think I still do? It doesn't change who I am today."

Mia smiled warmly. "You're a rare one, Adrian."

Once inside, Mia and Adrian were greeted by Hannah. "Mia, you look stunning as always," Hannah said, her tone genuine.

"Thank you, Hannah. But you, my dear, are glowing tonight."

Adrian smiled at them both before stepping onto the stage. "Good evening, everyone," he announced. "I just want to thank you all for being here tonight. And I'm thrilled to share that our business is expanding—we're entering the diamond industry."

The crowd burst into applause. But from the corner of the room, Lisa, still simmering with resentment, muttered loudly, "Well, once a driver, always a driver."

Hannah's eyes narrowed, and before Adrian could react, she stepped forward, her voice cutting through the crowd. "Yes, Adrian was a driver. But it's because of his hard work and perseverance that he's standing here today, one of the most respected men in the room."

Her gaze locked onto Lisa, her tone sharp. "Unlike you, Adrian respects everyone, no matter their status. And I'm proud to say that he's my husband. You'll never come close to his level."

Adrian overheard the exchange, his heart swelling with pride. He walked over to Hannah and stood by her side.

"I guess no matter how much money I have, the driver label still sticks," Adrian said with a soft smile. "Sorry, Hannah. By marrying me, you've inherited the title of 'driver's wife'."

Hannah looked at him, her eyes filled with warmth. "I don't care what they say. I'm proud of you, and if that makes me a 'driver's wife', then I'm honored."

Adrian smiled back at her, grateful beyond words. "By the way, I need you to come to the office tomorrow. There's a client who wants to meet you, and I'd love for you to join me."

"Of course," Hannah replied.

Before the moment could deepen, Emily watched from afar, her plan unraveling. I won't let him have the last word, she thought viciously. With quiet determination, she slipped a vial of drugs into Adrian's drink and called over a waiter. "Give this to Adrian," she ordered.

The waiter did as he was told, and Adrian, unaware, took a sip from the drink. Within minutes, he started to feel the effects. He stumbled slightly before making his way to the center of the room, his voice booming, "I'm so happy tonight! So happy!"

Hannah noticed something was off. Adrian's speech was slurred, his movements unsteady. He raised his glass, grinning widely. "My wife, my beautiful wife, she's here with me tonight. Yes! And we're opening a new business!"

Hannah exchanged a worried look with Mia.

"What's wrong with Adrian?" Mia whispered. "Why is he acting like this?"

Hannah, equally confused, watched as Adrian stumbled slightly, his movements erratic. Before she could say anything, Adrian suddenly called out to the DJ, his voice louder than usual. "Play the music! I want to celebrate!"

Without waiting for a response, he moved to the center and began dancing—his steps wild and uncoordinated, drawing the attention of the guests. Hannah sighed, her mind racing for a solution.

"If he keeps dancing alone, people will notice something's wrong," Hannah muttered, her eyes never leaving Adrian. "I'm going to dance with him, make it seem like part of the party."

Mia nodded in agreement, catching on to the plan quickly. "I'll join you. If we all make it fun, no one will think twice about it."

With a determined look, Hannah made her way to the dance floor, pulling Mia along with her. As they reached Adrian, she smiled warmly and started dancing beside him, her movements graceful and fluid, trying to match his erratic rhythm. Mia followed suit, her steps playful as she joined the impromptu celebration.

Other guests, sensing the shift, started clapping and cheering, joining them on the dance floor. The mood of the room lightened as more people began to dance, turning what could have been an awkward situation into a lively, spontaneous moment of celebration.

Adrian, caught up in the energy around him, laughed as he twirled Hannah around. For a brief moment, the tension in the air faded, though Hannah's heart still beat nervously in her chest. She knew something wasn't right, but for now, all she could do was keep the party going.
