Chapter 187

"Hmm—"

Uchiha Fugaku's consciousness suddenly wavered.

There was no direct eye contact, yet the power of Kotoamatsukami had already begun invading his mind, attempting to rewrite his will.

A voice whispered in his head, tempting him to submit to the Third Hokage...

Swoosh—

Sensing danger, his Mangekyō Sharingan instinctively activated, and an overwhelming surge of pupil power erupted, clashing with the influence of Kotoamatsukami.

Boom—

It was as if an invisible explosion had occurred.

The powerful pupil force within Uchiha Fugaku's eyes clashed violently against the invading will of Kotoamatsukami, generating an intense mental impact.

Like a flood crashing against a stone, the resistance forced Kotoamatsukami out of his mind.

Ultimately, Kotoamatsukami was an illusion-based ability that relied on the strength of its user's pupil power. When faced with a greater power, its effects could be resisted.

Uchiha Shisui only had one Mangekyō Sharingan and one Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

Meanwhile, Uchiha Fugaku not only possessed a complete pair of Mangekyō Sharingan, but had also absorbed multiple Uchiha corpses, further enhancing his already formidable ocular power.

In a head-on clash of ocular might, Uchiha Fugaku naturally dominated.

"Mangekyō Sharingan—you have it too?!"

Uchiha Shisui's face twisted in shock.

His Kotoamatsukami had failed. Worse, he now realized that Uchiha Fugaku's eyes bore a distinct Mangekyō pattern—proof that the clan leader possessed the legendary dojutsu as well.

"You think you can awaken the Mangekyō Sharingan, but as the clan leader, I wouldn't?"

Uchiha Fugaku sneered coldly.

Though his expression was calm, inwardly, he sighed in relief.

His hypothesis was correct—Kotoamatsukami was ultimately an illusion technique fueled by ocular power. Since his own Mangekyō was stronger, he could resist it.

If his resistance had failed, his last option would have been Izanagi—the ultimate reality-bending jutsu.

However, activating Izanagi would have cost him an eye, something he wanted to avoid unless absolutely necessary.

Thankfully, things hadn't reached that point.

Moreover, his previous schemes had played a role.

By orchestrating Uchiha Shisui's confrontation with Uchiha Obito, he had forced Shisui to lose an eye, significantly weakening his pupil strength and, in turn, his Kotoamatsukami.

"Why didn't you reveal your Mangekyō to the public?"

Uchiha Shisui asked, wariness evident in his voice.

"If I had, do you think I'd still be alive?"

Uchiha Fugaku chuckled with disdain.

Given the Third Hokage's paranoia toward the Mangekyō Sharingan, if they had known of his awakening, they would have eliminated him immediately.

Just as Sunagakure betrayed and killed Pakura, its own hero, Konoha's leadership would have done the same to him.

In hindsight, the previous Fugaku had been right to keep his Mangekyō a secret.

"Clan Leader, you misunderstand Hokage-sama. He would never harm you just because you awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan!"

Shisui insisted, trying to reason with him.

"And yet, despite having the Mangekyō, you were blinded.

How foolish. You will die here today."

Fugaku's voice turned icy.

This man was beyond salvation—completely brainwashed by the Third Hokage.

A traitor to his own clan.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the battlefield…

Uchiha Shiro and Uchiha Hoshi had been captured.

Though both were strong, they were outnumbered by six elite Anbu operatives, who quickly subdued them.

Now, restrained and injured, the two were helpless.

Seeing this, the six Anbu turned their attention to Fugaku.

They saw Shisui struggling against their target, but more importantly, they saw Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Oh no—the intelligence was wrong!"

"Fugaku has the Mangekyō Sharingan!"

Their expressions darkened.

The situation was much worse than they had expected.

"Uchiha Fugaku! If you don't surrender, we'll kill these two!"

One of the senior Anbu captains reacted quickly, pressing a kunai to Uchiha Shiro's throat.

The blade pierced slightly, drawing blood.

"Genjutsu: True Illusion."

Fugaku's right eye spun, and an instant later…

Plop! Plop! Plop!

All six Anbu collapsed.

Some were reduced to burnt corpses, others had their hearts impaled, and some had their throats slit open.

All of them were dead.

In less than a second.

Within the True Illusion world, time itself was manipulated.

While only an instant passed in reality, inside the illusion, Fugaku had spent minutes killing them one by one.

Even Uchiha Itachi's Tsukuyomi could stretch time, though it was limited to a single target.

Fugaku's True Illusion was different—he could extend time and kill multiple enemies at once.

Now, all six Anbu were dead.

"Clan Leader…!"

Uchiha Shiro and Uchiha Hoshi were now free, though badly wounded.

They wanted to help but knew their presence would only hinder the fight.

"Retreat. You can't help here."

Fugaku ordered.

Without hesitation, the two obeyed and moved back to a safer distance.

Meanwhile, Shisui was shaken.

He had never seen such an ability before.

Fugaku's Mangekyō Sharingan had instantly killed six elite Anbu—without them even realizing it.

Shisui clenched his fists.

"What kind of jutsu was that?!"

He had to remain cautious.

He had seen nothing—heard nothing—yet six of his comrades had died.

"The kind of technique that will kill you next."

Fugaku's right eye spun again, activating True Illusion once more.

"Not good!"

Shisui instinctively vanished, using his Body Flicker Technique to escape.

He reappeared several meters away.

Most Uchiha genjutsu required eye contact, but he now realized that Fugaku's did not.

It was far more dangerous than he anticipated.

He had made a huge mistake.
