"It's simply unbelievable! Something like this has never happened before!"
Madam Pomfrey's face was flushed with anger as she shouted in her sharp voice:
"A professor actually got into a fight with students! Resulting in more than half of them being injured!"
"How could you treat your students like this? How could you treat your classroom like this? I've worked at Hogwarts for so many years, and I've never seen a professor send all their students to the hospital!"
Professor Abigail feebly defended herself: "But, if they were to encounter real enemies..."
"The children are here to learn, not to go to war! They're only second-years, and they're in school, which is supposed to be a safe place! Even if they need to practice combat, that should be reserved for older students!"
"Professor Abigail, they are students, not soldiers! And certainly not a suicide squad!"
"I don't know what kind of battles you've faced in the past! But since the children address you as a professor, you should care for them with the heart of a teacher, or even a parent!"
"If you continue to treat students so harshly in the future, I will strongly request that Professor Dumbledore terminate your employment! And I mean it!"
Madam Pomfrey's fury swept through the entire classroom like a raging storm. Faced with her wrath, Professor Abigail tried several times to speak, but couldn't find an opportunity, and her expression gradually became dazed.
With a wave of her wand, Madam Pomfrey levitated the unconscious students and stomped out heavily.
The group of students glanced at Professor Abigail, then quietly and cautiously followed the school nurse, like a flock of chicks trailing their mother.
Michael noticed after walking a bit that someone seemed to be missing. He doubled back to look and, just before reaching the door, heard a dull "thud."
Peeking cautiously through the door, Michael spied Wade getting up from the floor and wiping blood from the corner of his eye with his arm.
At the other end of the classroom, Professor Abigail also had a fresh bruise on her forehead.
"Clearly, your physical strength is better than your peers, but compared to the students at Uagadou, you still have a long way to go."
Abigail said, "Many British wizards believe that as long as you master spells, that's enough. But I can prove that this notion is completely wrong!"
She pulled off her long robe and casually tossed it aside, revealing black athletic wear underneath. Her belt was equipped with dangerous-looking tools, and her slender limbs, even under the fabric, hinted at smooth, toned muscles.
The woman moved like a leopard, her wand in hand like sharp fangs and claws. She crouched slightly, then lunged forward suddenly!
"Bang!"
In the next instant, the beam of a spell was still blocked by the armor, but Wade was grabbed by the shoulder and thrown to the ground!
Michael couldn't bear to watch and covered his eyes, hearing a series of sharp smacking and thudding sounds from inside.
"Should we get a professor to stop this?" a trembling voice whispered nearby. "If this goes on, I'm afraid Wade might actually get beaten to death."
Michael turned to see Padma hiding beside him. On the other side of the classroom door, Anthony and Terry were also crouched down.
"What are you all doing back here?" Michael asked in surprise.
"Did you really think you could sneak back without anyone noticing?" Anthony tilted his head, indicating something behind him. "Madam Pomfrey hasn't gone far yet! And Professor McGonagall's office is nearby too..."
Michael hesitated, then shook his head.
"Let's wait a bit longer... If Wade didn't want to get beaten up, he should've left with us earlier..."
Suddenly, a chaotic "whooshing" noise erupted from inside the classroom, sounding like hundreds of birds taking flight at once.
The group hastily peeked through the doorway.
They saw countless tiny birds attacking the new professor, enormous spiders clattering toward her, and a book someone had dropped on the floor suddenly expanding and unfolding like a massive curtain, wrapping around Abigail.
A bloodied Wade staggered to his feet, raised his wand, and shouted, "Expelliarmus!"
Abigail's wand flew out of her hand!
"YES!" Michael pumped his fist in excitement, and the others nearly jumped for joy.
But then, a shadowy figure barreled through the obstacles ahead, and swung a heavy punch.
"THUD!"
The dark-haired boy slammed hard against the wall, his head lolling to one side as he stopped moving.
The group stared in horror, their eyes wide and frozen, seemingly forgetting even to scream.
The tiny birds pecking at Abigail's hair vanished instantly. The enlarged spiders shrank back to their normal size, scuttling confusedly for a moment before scurrying quickly along the wall corners.
"That little guy put up quite a fight!"
Abigail muttered, wiping the blood from the corner of her mouth. She suddenly turned her head and spotted the four heads poking out from the doorway, lined up like a bunch of cherries.
"Hey! You lot!"
The young wizards jolted in fear, shivering down to their toes.
They had initially thought this professor's teaching methods were overly brutal, but now, in comparison, they realized they had experienced the "gentle version."
If Professor Abigail had treated us the way she dealt with Wade... Michael suspected he might never live to see the next sunrise.
"...P-Professor?" Anthony stammered.
"Goldstein, is it?" Professor Abigail said. "Take this kid to the school infirmary and let Madam Pomfrey know it was his idea to come find me for another duel, not me bullying him!"
After saying this, she waved her hand, and the robe on the ground jumped up and wrapped itself around her automatically. She strode briskly out of the classroom, but once she reached an empty corridor, she hissed in pain.
Michael and the others, of course, had no idea about the professor's moment of vulnerability. They watched her retreating figure with awe until she disappeared from sight, then hurried inside.
Padma, skilled in Transfiguration, turned a table into a stretcher. The boys used a Levitation Charm to carry Wade to the infirmary and relayed Professor Abigail's explanation to Madam Pomfrey.
And then...
They got a thorough scolding from Madam Pomfrey too.
In fact, they had all suffered minor injuries during the earlier chaos, but Madam Pomfrey's stern rebuke left their heads spinning. When she paused to catch her breath, they quickly excused themselves and fled as fast as they could.
Only after leaving the infirmary did they remember that their wounds had not been treated. However, the thought of going back... they simply didn't have the courage.
"I actually brought some dittany essence," Michael said, lifting his damp bag with a wry smile. "But it got smashed."
"It's fine; I have a bottle in the dorm," Padma said.
Since they still had a few hours before Astronomy class, the group headed toward the Ravenclaw Tower.
The stairs, which always felt endless, were even more grueling to climb with their injuries, making the journey seem even more agonizing.
After what felt like an eternity, Terry let out a long sigh:
"When will our Defense Against the Dark Arts classes ever be normal?"
