"Five."
"Five martial artists died," one of Shang Pei's subordinates reported.
A closer look revealed that the flesh of the five fallen martial artists had been devoured by the Fanged Black Spiders in a matter of moments. Most of their bones were now fully exposed.
"Those Sky Tiger Mercenary Group members were killed by these spiders?" one of the remaining martial artists asked, his face pale as he looked at the corpses on the ground.
If Shang Pei hadn't reacted quickly and used fire-based martial techniques to eliminate most of the spiders, the situation would have been far worse.
"Not all of the Sky Tiger Mercenary Group members are dead. Some of them must have made it further inside," Shang Pei said as he surveyed the area.
"Let's move," he added, gripping his large sword and leading the group forward. The other martial artists, though nervous, quickly followed, maintaining heightened awareness of their surroundings.
As they proceeded deeper into the passage, their senses stretched to detect any danger ahead.
"Too bad we didn't kill more of those spiders," Ye Fan lamented.
Each of those creatures was an eighth-rank beast, and every kill brought in 8,000 evolution points. Just now, they had earned about 100,000 points from killing the spiders.
"What a shame Shang Pei killed most of them," Ye Fan added regretfully. If Lin Luoluo had used her Soul-Cleaving Flame Slash earlier, she could have taken out a large number of those spiders and gained even more points.
The group quickly advanced, and soon, they saw a faint light ahead.
"An exit!"
Shang Pei, whose keen senses had already detected faint energy fluctuations coming from the exit, quickened his pace. The energy emanating from the area was growing stronger as they approached, hinting at the presence of something significant.
Shang Pei was the first to step into the open space beyond the tunnel. The area was vast, its ground covered in glowing white moss, illuminating the chamber.
"Ha! So someone else made it here already," Shang Pei commented as his gaze settled on a group of martial artists waiting inside.
It was the Sky Tiger Mercenary Group—three ninth-rank and four eighth-rank martial artists. Some of them had managed to escape the earlier danger and had arrived ahead of Shang Pei's group. The spiders had likely tunneled above the passageway, making nests that posed a constant threat. However, Shang Pei wasn't interested in pursuing that matter, so long as the spiders didn't continue to bother them.
"What are these..." Shang Pei murmured as his gaze drifted toward the surrounding walls.
On closer inspection, the walls were lined with smooth surfaces covered in various intricate carvings. These murals depicted vivid scenes of humans and strange beasts, each rendered with striking realism.
"Wait a minute..." Shang Pei's eyes narrowed as realization dawned on him. The next moment, he stood frozen in place, his mind clearly entranced by some profound insight.
"Damn it, he's having an epiphany!" the leader of the Sky Tiger Mercenary Group exclaimed, his face twisting in frustration. They had been in this chamber for a while, yet none of them had been able to comprehend anything from the murals. But Shang Pei, upon entering, had immediately gained some deep understanding.
This realization irked them, but Shang Pei's status as a Martial Master made them too fearful to act against him.
The other martial artists also began to notice the murals and were struck by the intricate designs. They quickly realized that these images could hold the key to powerful martial techniques.
Lin Luoluo's gaze also swept across the room.
"Hmm? These murals probably hold insights into martial techniques or cultivation methods..." Ye Fan speculated.
Though Ye Fan, as a sword, couldn't directly comprehend the murals, he knew their importance.
Lin Luoluo, gripping the hilt of Soul Severing, let her eyes scan the various murals. As she focused on one in particular, she paused.
Chaos Divine Technique.
In that moment, she grasped the essence of a powerful cultivation technique. Closing her eyes, Lin Luoluo entered a deep state of comprehension, her mind fully absorbing the profound knowledge.
Golden threads of energy began to flow from the mural, moving toward Lin Luoluo and merging into her body.
"Another epiphany?!" one of the ninth-rank martial artists from the Sky Tiger Mercenary Group exclaimed in disbelief. It wasn't just a simple understanding—Lin Luoluo was absorbing the ancient energy contained within the mural.
The ninth-rank martial artist's expression darkened with envy. Whatever Lin Luoluo was gaining from the mural, it was no ordinary cultivation method.
Unwilling to accept this, he silently summoned his source energy, compressing it into a tiny, concentrated mass no larger than a fingertip.
Whoosh—
The next moment, he flicked the energy projectile toward Lin Luoluo, intending to disrupt her enlightenment.
"Huh?" Ye Fan noticed the attack immediately and was momentarily taken aback. The man clearly wanted to sabotage Lin Luoluo's breakthrough.
Without hesitation, Soul Severing moved on its own, intercepting the energy attack. The blade effortlessly deflected the incoming force.
Lin Luoluo, her brow slightly furrowed, sensed something but remained calm. It seemed Soul Severing had once again protected her, just as it had done before when it had shown its will.
Relieved, Lin Luoluo continued to focus on her comprehension.
"What just happened...?" the ninth-rank martial artist was stunned, his eyes wide with shock. How had she noticed the attack? Or was it the sword that had blocked it for her?
The possibility that her sword had a spirit of its own seemed too far-fetched, yet he couldn't shake the thought.
Moments later, as the last of the golden energy entered Lin Luoluo's body, she opened her eyes, having fully grasped the Chaos Divine Technique.
"Was it you who tried to attack me?" Lin Luoluo asked, her gaze locking onto the martial artist across the room.
