ch22-Tutorial (17) Hunting

Rolan nodded back, Oliver already heading out of the courtyard, and out of the inner city for that matter.

Wolves hadn't penetrated the city that deep that they appeared in the inner city, so the only place he could do some hunting was the edges of the outer city, and mostly the woods there.

'I needed to get that achievement anyway.'

There were far more achievements than just the race first and tower first once. Most being less prestige's and rewarding though.

One of those was the massacre achievement. Only awarded when one killed a lot of a certain species within the same floor.

In floor 0, the only massacre achievement available was obviously wolves. But that didn't mean it was going to be easy on Oliver.

The massacre achievement needed at the verry least 1000 life forms after all, and even then that was merely the lowest level achievement, massacre I.

From what Oliver could remember the maximum massacre grade obtainable in the tutorial was 3, making you kill 10.000 wolves. Any more and the boss would come out pre-emptively.

This in and off itself was pretty much impossible for most people, even for Oliver this was nothing but a dream if he didn't have a specific potion.

'Now it's hoping this puppy doesn't kill me now that I have some more mana capacity.'

[Mana Potion (Grade 2)]

High grade

Effects: regenerates 250 mana instantly, and 500 over the course of 1 minute.

Oliver played with the potion in his hand after taking it out of his shoulder bag, but didn't dare consume it. The only way he was going to drink this potion and not suffer any backlash was if he was constantly using mana.

So Oliver made his way to the edge of the outer city, but didn't see any wolves, at least not enough to bother going over, so he walked to the forest, and made his way up to a tree.

For the following 15 or so minutes Oliver made his way across the tree tops, scouting a large enough group of wolves to bother and take action.

He made sure to kill the few lone wolves here and there, but nothing that was worth drinking a mana potion for.

'This should be good.'

Now standing above 150 or so wolves Oliver instantly chucked the mana potion. 5 magic missiles instantly appearing, flying towards the wolves.

BOOM

Before the wolves even knew what was going on all 5 magic missiles exploded, killing 10 or so wolves each and leaving behind burned grass and wolve carcasses.

Seeing this all other wolves started growling as they started encircling Oliver.

'Seriously? That wolf king has one hell of a mind control power to make these things not afraid of death.'

Even though wolves were rather dumb they still had some good instincts, if any normal wolves say 50 of their pack instantly get killed, they would flee instantly. But being controlled by their leader, they were forced to fight.

Oliver of course wasn't mad at this, no he was rather glad that he didn't have to run all around killing the scattered wolf pack.

Another 10 magic missiles appeared next to Oliver as they stared flying around him with incredible speed. Every time a wolf dared to come closer a magic missile, almost like it had his own mind, flew towards it, exploding and killing another 10 or so wolves.

Within the next half a minute all wolves were killed, and Oliver started his argues task of collected all of their little horns on their foreheads as proof.

This process might seem fast but wolf groups, especially once this big were few and far between. Most of Olivers kills came from lone wolves he could kill with a 1 mana magic missile.

Take his first wolf group, he had killed around 200 or so wolves before coming across them.

Never the less Oliver tugged on, having collected his wolf horns he went on his way yet again, searching for more wolf groups.

And so, Oliver stayed in the forest for a full 4 days, getting many achievements along the way. These were of course much less exciting than the once he had gotten so far, but anything helped. He needed to do this killing anyway for general Rolan.

Description: Kill 1000 wolves on a singular floor of the Tower.

This achievement wasn't difficult, in fact Oliver had completed it within about half a day.

[Achievement Type: Wolf Massacre II]

Description: Kill 2500 wolves on a singular floor of the Tower.

Even this, once Oliver had become a little more efficient in wolf hunting, had been completed by the end of day one. Or, it was more accurate to say that he had gotten more efficient in finding wolves.

[Achievement Type: Wolf Massacre III]

Description: Kill 10.000 wolves on a singular floor of the Tower.

Even though killing wolves was extremely easy for Oliver, and his mana was basically endless with the few potions he brought, he was still exhausted after killing 10.000 of them.

Just the sleeping in the trees was already taxing on Olivers body, not to mention the 2-3 hours of sleep he had gotten each night.

Normally Oliver would scoff at such a trivial thing, but without many luxuries magic and enchanting gave him, plus his low stats he felt extremely naked, especially while sleeping outside.

But nevertheless, the task had been completed, and this amount of wolf kills was more than enough to get 2 items from the army treasury. So, Oliver left the forest and made his way back to the inner city, the army camp.
