His voice was soft but the coldness in his voice was unmissable, carrying an undercurrent of finality that I did not expect to come from him. There was no hesitation, and barely any trace of warmth. His gaze was unwavering, but there was something behind his eyes I couldn't quite decipher, perhaps it was shame or guilt or anger, I don't know.
