Chapter 168: I'm sorry

Paula's dark eyes were staring directly into mine, a mixture of doubt and anger swirling in the depths of her eyes by my insistence. She opened her mouth to say something but only a single word left her lips.

"You…" Her voice trailed as she struggled to find the right words to say like there was a lump stuck in her throat. Her eyes were shifting around, as if she was searching for some form of clarity. The anger on her face was prevalent, I knew for a fact that she wanted to shout and yell at me as always, telling me that I was being ridiculous. Yet deep down in the hollow of heart, it was swelling with doubt as she stuttered. "No, this can't be…" she shook her head.

Silence enveloped us all for what seemed like an eternity.

"You are saying Evelyn was the one who ran over my son?" She asked, disbelief written all over her face as she glanced over at her with a betrayed look. Perhaps she has somehow been swayed by the certainty and seriousness in my tone.
