chapter 10: The Elder's Concern

"I hope you understand why we've called you here, Avery," Elder Corin's voice was as cold as the stone walls surrounding them.

Avery shifted uncomfortably, her gaze flicking between the assembled Silvermist elders. "I don't, actually. What's this about?"

Elder Talia's eyes narrowed. "This is about your recent… entanglement with Ethan Blackwood."

Avery's heart skipped a beat. Ethan. She'd been careful, or so she thought. "Entanglement? I've only spoken with him a few times. We've crossed paths, but nothing more."

Elder Corin leaned forward, his gray eyes sharp. "You think we don't know the dangers that follow him? The Blackwood Pack is riddled with unrest, and their Alpha is more reckless than ever. His actions will lead to disaster, and we cannot afford to have you caught in the middle of it."
