A New Role
After the meeting, Dimitri and I returned to his penthouse. The night stretched around us, heavy with unspoken thoughts. I stood by the massive windows, staring down at the glittering city below, my mind racing.
Dimitri watched me from across the room, his arms crossed. "You're thinking too loudly."
I let out a dry laugh. "Is that your way of asking what's on my mind?"
His lips twitched, but he didn't deny it.
I turned to face him fully. "I don't want to be a bystander in this."
His expression sharpened. "What are you saying?"
I took a deep breath. "I want to be involved. I don't want to just hide behind you and Dominic while you handle everything."
Something unreadable crossed his face. "Zahra—"
"I mean it," I interrupted. "I've spent my whole life being controlled, being used. I refuse to let that happen again. I need to fight for myself."
