The Task

David set off on the impossible task of reuniting two people who, in this reality, had never met. He tracked down his parents—two strangers who lived completely separate lives in this dimension. His mother was a nurse, working in a hospital in the distant ruins of another city. His father, a carpenter, lived a solitary life in the mountains.

David observed them from a distance, wracking his brain for a way to bring them together. He couldn't just approach them—he didn't exist in this world. But he had to find a way. Time was running out, the Nexus's power ebbing away with each passing day.

Through careful planning and subtle interventions, David began to manipulate events. He arranged for his mother to travel to the mountains for a medical conference. He made sure his father would be there, working on a new construction project.
