Alaiss and I were barely noticed - apparently the disguised dark elf came here regularly, and the second-class men laden with their belongings were of little interest to anyone.
«Greetings, Lady Alaiss,» one of the receptionists greeted my companion politely. «What did you want?»
«To report the completion of the contract to kill the rats in the dungeons near the north wall,» the woman said. «Here is the contract with the client's signature.»
Taking the bag from me, the beautiful woman pulled out an official-looking document. The receptionist examined it, nodded, and handed the clinking bag to my companion. Alaiss responded by silently reaching forward with his right hand, palm down.
The receptionist touched the wrist of the dressed dark elf's hand with a strange-looking crystal, causing a magical mark to briefly appear on her skin. Literally before my eyes, it changed color from gray to silver.
«Oh, congratulations, thanks to the number of tasks you've completed and the interview you had before, your rank has been upgraded from steel to silver,» the receptionist smiled.
«How about we set up a gold rank interview tomorrow night?" Alaiss smiled.
The receptionist blushed slightly and looked around cautiously, biting her lip.
«The Gold Rank interview requires not only a commission from the guild, but also a priestess from the temple,» the receptionist said quietly over the counter.
The beautiful girl was obviously just coming of age, but she already had medium sized breasts and a good ass. The angle made it possible to enjoy this beautiful sight. And her eyes showed a woman has a skill....
«Then we can have a preliminary interview tomorrow,» Alaiss smiled predatorily and kissed her lips.
«We'll do that,» the satisfied receptionist said and straightened up. Then she asked in a more formal tone. «Was there something else you wanted?»
«Sign in my new assistant,» the disguised dark elf nodded at me.
«Good. What happened to the previous one?»
«He died.»
«On a rat extermination mission?» the receptionist wondered.
«Imagine that,» the dark elf shrugged indifferently. And added with obvious contempt in her voice. «These male newcomers are only fit to carry things. But they're so eager to fight that they die foolishly and needlessly.»
«Indeed...» her interlocutor snorted and ordered me coldly. «Hold out your right hand, palm down.»
After I complied, the receptionist took out the same artifact and placed it on my wrist.
«What is his name and what abilities he has?» the girl asked Alaiss, paying no attention to me.
«Uruk,» she replied calmly, grateful that I had had time to introduce myself to her this morning. «Swordsman and healer.»
How the dark elf knew about my basic skills, I could only guess. However, after thinking about it, I decided that there was no special secret - I carry a sword, and the «Healing» I was able to demonstrate last night.
«Uruk, you have been assigned a porcelain rank,» the receptionist turned to me. «Complete the tasks with your mentor, and when you have enough of them, you will automatically be assigned a copper rank. Unless, of course, you die a ridiculous death earlier like your predecessors.»
I was given no further explanation, and the tattoo disappeared on its own as soon as the receptionist removed the artifact. Aware of the conspiracy, I didn't pester Alaiss with questions.
Meanwhile, the dark elf ordered me to follow her and went to the order board. After accepting another order to kill rats in the city's dungeons, she registered it and we left the guild.
Our path now led to the slums near the northern wall. Taking advantage of the pause, I checked my character stats to see if my new status was reflected there. It turned out that the system had decided add fraction section....

Alaiss, who navigated the narrow, crooked streets perfectly, led me to a nondescript house and knocked tentatively. The door was opened by a tall man of frankly thuggish appearance.
«Alaiss, why did you bring that rich boy here?» he asked instead of greeting me, nodding uncomfortably. «We did everything to get rid of not only the arrogant bitches, but also this one!»
«You'll see for yourself,» the dark elf replied and stepped inside. I followed her, exchanging uncomfortable glances with the man. Fortunately, the man didn't escalate the conflict and, closing the door, followed us out.
A short, dark hallway leading away from the door led us to an impressively sized room where a few dozen more men, no less predatory looking than the first, but not as massive, sat on benches around a long, roughly chipped table.
«Assume your true form,» Alaiss ordered me.
I obeyed, reluctantly undressing under the men's puzzled stares and removing the amulet.
«How come?» one man asked as I transformed into an orc.
«Uh-huh,» I replied.
«Ahhhh... It's talking!» came a startled exclamation from someone at the table.
