Chapter 4: Council of Elders
The Great Hall of Liora was a wonder of the ancients. With a vaulted ceiling leaning upon tall columns, which glimmered with glowing runes, it seemed to shimmer with stellar patterns blazing within enchanted chandeliers. The air hummed in that low, resonant tone, and upon the floor were laid mosaics depicting the chronicles of Eldoria.
Kael stood in the entrance, struck by the greatness of it all. The Elders of Liora sat in a half-circle at the far end of the hall in flowing, loosely wrapped robes in colors of deep blues and gold. Their faces were lined with knowledge and grace, their eyes reflecting the depth of times past.
As Kael approached, the gazes of the Elders turned to him with a mixture of curiosity and expectation. In the middle of the circle was one of the Elders who sported a very long silver beard into which piercing blue eyes stared from. His presence commanded attention, so to say, and so he was the first to speak.
Greetings, Kael, Bearer of the Invincible Flow," the voice of the Presiding Elder rumbled like mild thunder. "We are the Counsel of Elders. We have been expecting your arrival."
Kael lowered his head. "I seek guidance as darkness is closing in all over Eldoria. I have braved my trials, but for further movements, I am at a loss.
The Elder nodded and beckoned to Kael to step closer. "You have proved your bravery, wisdom, and heart. What lies ahead of you is so perilous, and this is but the beginning. You must first understand the nature of the darkness that you are protecting Eldoria from.
He waved his hand, and a ghostly projection materialized above the central table: a swirling vortex of shadows, an omen that threatened to consume light and hope.
"This is the Shadowfall," he said. "It is an ancient entity of darkness, embodying despair and corruption. Long ago, it was sealed away, but its power is returning to engulf our world once more.
Kael had studied the projection, a shiver running down his spine. "How can I stop it? What must I do?"
The Elder's face turned somber. "In order to fight the Shadowfall, you must first find the Three Pillars of Light, ancient artifacts with the essence of purity and hope. They are the only forces capable of countering the corruption of Shadowfall.
"The Pillars of Light?" Kael echoed, his mind whirling. "Where would I find them?"
"The Pillars are shrouded in three holy sites," the Elder continued. "The first is the Celestial Forge, deep within the Crystal Caverns of the North. The second is the Heart of the Forest, guarded by the ancient spirits of the Enchanted Woods. And the third one is the Abyssal Sanctuary-a place out of this world-reachable through a forgotten portal only.
The Elder handed Kael a map with the locations of the sacred places marked upon it. "Each Pillar is protected by trials of its own. You must retrieve them all if you want to gain the strength needed to face the Shadowfall."
Kael took the map in a trembling grasp as the gravity of his mission settled upon him. "How will I know when I've found the Pillars? What shall I expect?
The eyes of the Elder softened, his tone reassuring. "The Pillars shall reveal themselves to those who are pure of heart and true in purpose. Trust in the Invincible Flow within you. It will guide you through the trials and help you overcome the darkness.
A murmur of consensus and motivation resounded through the other Elders. The central Elder continued, "Before you go, take this." And with that, he handed Kael a small, ornate box. Inside was a crystalline vial filled with a shimmering liquid. "This is the Elixir of Clarity. It shall reveal hidden truths and further your resolve where doubt clouds your mind.
Kael thanked the Elders and carefully took the vial. His sense of purpose was renewed, and determination flowered once more in his heart. The challenges ahead of him were frightening, but with the Elders' backing and the power of Invincible Flow that fortified his spirit,.
Just as Kael was about to turn and leave the Great Hall, the Elder with the silver beard laid a hand on his shoulder. "Remember, Kael, you are not alone in this quest. The bonds you forge and the allies you discover will be equally essential to your own strength.
With that, Kael left the hall, his way lit by the rising sun. The city bustled with life around him, but his mind fixed on the resolute journey ahead. The map in his hand, the Elixir of Clarity at his side, and the guidance of the Elders were his tools for the journey to come.
First would be the road to the Celestial Forge. As Kael moved north, a sense of responsibility mixed with growing excitement. The trials indeed were going to be arduous, but with every step, he was closer to the protection of Eldoria and the fulfillment of his destiny.
It was with this that Kael undertook the quest for the Pillars of Light-to try every constituent part of his being and to reveal the true depth of power, or in other words, the flow called Invincible.
