As the sun cast its final rays over the yard, the floating island hovered silently, a beacon of their progress. Yuto Saito gathered the team, his voice firm yet calm.
"Our priority is upgrading the floating island to level 4. Once we do, the benefits will be clear to everyone."
Nazi sighed, frustration evident. "It's my fault. I should've killed more monsters earlier, but I didn't find enough."
Earlier, she had ventured out, determined to collect enough spar for the upgrade. But despite her efforts, she only managed to find a third-tier pig-headed snake and nine lesser, first-tier serpents.
Yuto Saito shook his head, placing a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "You've contributed more than enough, Nazi."
He glanced at the panel in front of him. "We currently have three red sapphires and 953 white ones. If we convert the reds, we'll only need 17 more white spar for the upgrade."
Yun Yun, ever practical, suggested, "We should teleport to a different area, kill a few zombies, and gather what we need."
Natto nodded in agreement. "Let's head to Hailan, Sanya. It's crawling with zombies. Most of them are regular, with a few first-tier and the occasional second-tier jumper. We can handle them easily."
"Let's go," Yun Yun affirmed.
Yuto Saito pulled an assortment of weapons from his storage ring, laying them before the group. "Hu Tuan'er, Rice Noodle, pick your weapons."
The array was impressive—Tang swords, daggers, crossbows, iron rods, whips, pistols, sniper rifles, and submachine guns.
Rice Noodle's eyes widened in surprise. "Captain, you even have guns?"
"Yes," Yuto Saito replied, recalling the previous day. "We confiscated them from two snipers we defeated. Their rings were loaded with supplies."
Hu Tuan'er studied the weapons before her. "I'll take the Repeating Crossbow and Miao Dao."
Rice Noodle grinned. "I want the pistol."
Nazi teased her, "Xianxian, you should cosplay as a bounty hunter—dual guns like Miss Fortune!"
Orange laughed. "More like a female Marco Polo. Miss Fortune doesn't use those kinds of guns."
Yuto Saito handed Rice Noodle the pistol and some bullets, offering advice as she practiced. Despite her enthusiasm, she needed to be prepared.
"Stay on the island and practice while we head out," Yuto Saito instructed.
Rice Noodle, however, pouted, her eyes wide with disappointment. "Captain, I want to come with you. I'll take the Red Ying Gun if I have to."
Yuto Saito, seeing the pleading in her expression, relented. "Alright, you can come. But stay close."
Her face lit up. "Thank you, Captain!"
Despite her excitement, Rice Noodle was primarily a third-tier pharmacist, destined to spend most of her time crafting medicine. Experience was shared among the team, so she didn't need to worry about falling behind.
"Everyone ready? Let's go," Yuto Saito commanded.
Tiger Tuan'er activated the teleportation circle beneath them. The array, with its three-meter radius, was large enough for the entire team of 11.
In a flash, they arrived at the Sanya Convention and Exhibition Center. Once a bustling hub of activity, it was now overrun by zombies. More than 500 of the creatures shambled aimlessly in front of them, a sea of rotting flesh.
Yuto Saito smiled, his gaze sweeping over the horde. "Let's fight."
Without hesitation, he rushed forward, knives flying from his hands, guided by his mind. In a flurry of ice and lightning, he dispatched the zombies effortlessly.
The team's system messages pinged one after another:
[Kill ordinary zombie – 10 XP.] [Kill second-tier jumping corpse – 200 XP.] [Obtain white spar.]
Yuto Saito pressed on, the kills coming quickly. His team was strong—each of them more than capable of handling the threat.
Yun Yun split from the group, freezing a dozen zombies in their tracks before obliterating them with a bolt of lightning. Hu Tuan'er watched, awestruck. "Captain and Sister Yun are incredible."
Elsewhere, Ni Shuang, with her newfound seven-star strength, cleaved through rows of zombies with ease, her axe gleaming with spiritual energy. "Wow, Xiaoshuang! You can cut them down without even touching them?" Natto marveled.
Ni Shuang chuckled. "Yeah, once you hit seven stars, you can channel spiritual energy into your weapons."
"That's amazing! I need to level up faster," Natto said with a wistful sigh, though her slow progress weighed on her.
Orange picked off zombies with her bow, each shot precise. Yu Qi's fan sliced through several undead at once. In the air, Nazi soared, spear in hand, methodically piercing through enemies, while Mina controlled a second-tier jumper, making it attack its own kind. Natto wielded her sledgehammer with wild abandon, and even Rice Noodle, with her Red Ying Gun, was holding her own.
Hu Tuan'er, though shaking, fired her Repeating Crossbow at a zombie, her first kill leaving her both proud and nauseous. It was always hard the first time.
Above them, a helicopter buzzed. The soldiers aboard watched in awe as the team decimated the horde below.
"Captain, it's an Awakener team. Their strength is unreal."
"I know who they are," another soldier said, eyes wide. "That's the God of War Squad. Yesterday, they killed a fifth-tier giant zombie in the capital."
"Fifth-tier? No wonder they're so powerful."
"With them here, we won't need to worry about cleaning up the rest of Sanya," the pilot noted, steering the chopper towards another location.
Below, the team continued their assault, unfazed by the attention, focused only on their mission: upgrade the island, gather spar, and survive.
