Its mysterious origin was unclear, but Aizen speculated it might be related to the glowing firefly-like lights seen earlier.

Otherwise, it wouldn't make sense for the Treisenberg City Treasure Vault to only open on the eighth day of the ninth lunar month each year. It seemed that only on this day did large amounts of those lights appear, eventually merging into the underground pool to create the Essence of Primordial Flame in specific conditions.
