"So…." Lyra cooed as she sat beside Rex in the med bay of the Cloud-Eater Freight Jet.
"So…" Rex replied, laying in the white sheeted bed casually.
Despite the size of the jet, the med bay wasn't very large, forcing the Werepanther and shotgunning rapier-wielder to stay close. Not too close though. Rex didn't want the glass walls to steam.
"You lived." She said. Her blonde hair was now tied up after showering away all the vampire blood and debris marring her pale skin.
"Barely." Rex replied, keeping his eyes away from the mesh sports bra she wore.
"Barely living against a village-vampire god as a new recruit is award worthy on its own." Lyra said as she adjusted his poorly applied bandages.
"I'm a specialist, actually." Rex replied jokingly.
"Smartass." Lyra winked.
"Hey!"
They both flinched as Isadora banged on the glass from outside.
"Stop flirting and have sex already so you both can move on like the irresponsible adults you are!"
"Stay in a child's place, Dora." Lyra sighed without looking up from Rex's bandages.
Isadora growled, "That's it. I'm going to get my gun."
"I don't want to play toys with you right now, Dora." Lyra said dotingly.
"ALRIGHT BITCH! I was gonna use semi but I'm going full auto on both of you now." Isadora's pigtails bounced as she roared.
"Both??? I didn't do anything!" Rex said from his bed.
"Yea but I hate you so you're getting mag dumped too." Isadora stomped off.
"You're not magdumping anyone. Come help me write this post mission report. I forgot how to spell subjugate." Cpt Camo said from the schematics table near the cockpit.
Isadora mumbled curses under her breath as she stomped over to the table and helped him write out the mission report.
The sight of the two was bizzare to say the least.
Lyra and Rex shared a laugh at it.
"So…. How'd you get into this field? Were you training to be a Drift Soldier?"
Lyra shook her head, "Model."
Rex looked her up and down and nodded, "That tracks."
"You know it."
"So how does an aspiring model end up in special forces?" Rex asked.
"By being played." Lyra said, "There's a few modeling agencies that are just fronts. They scout for bait women in sting operations and other raid jobs for police units back in the states."
"That's…. Smart actually." Rex realized.
"Yea. They got me. I thought I made my big break."
"You didn't have a choice?" Rex asked.
Lyra nodded. "No, I did. But he was there." Lyra pointed to Cpt Camo. His black and grey mustache bristled as he wrote the report with Isadora. His wrinkled face was holding an expression of deep focus. Even deeper than when he was fighting the vampires with his massive Kobold virus infected arm.
"I said no." Lyra started, "I like heels more than boots. He said ok….. but he stayed an extra month in my area to train me."
"He doesn't seem the type to just hand out free fighting lessons…" Rex said.
"Yea well…. He knew I needed it." Lyra said.
The two stared at eachother for a long while.
"I was being abused, Rex."
"Ohhhhh…." Rex suddenly understood.
"Then I wasn't anymore. And I realized how much I liked being able to fight. So here I am. Fighting."
Rex nodded, "That works."
"So far." Lyra shrugged, "What about you? What's your story?"
"The basic one for Drift Soldiers." Rex replied.
There wasn't much said afterward. Not in depth at least. Given everything Rex experienced, he needed to keep his many lives as far apart as he could manage. Even if it was a pretty face inquiring.
A few minutes later and he was back in AG Brennus' office with the rest of his team.
"Great work, everyone. Rex, you passed the test."
Rex nodded.
"Now go back to playing trainee until your next mission. The rest of your team's day just freed up. But yours is only just starting. Don't let killing a vampire-god go to your head." AG Brennus said.
"Yes, sir." Rex replied.
"Dismissed."
Rex nodded to his team.
Cpt. Camo grunted. Isadora flipped him off. Lyra blew him a kiss.
"Oh— and Rex."
Rex turned around.
"Be sure to talk with Imani."
"I was planning on it." Rex thought in reply.
