Finally, Logan and the others burst out of the gym and into the blistering sunlight. For the first time, Logan didn't mind the intense heat—he felt grateful for it. Although he had the strength of a werewolf, the supernatural was unpredictable, with countless ways to kill. For instance, some of these entities could kill you with just a glance, like the old man in the news who caused instant death just by being seen. Even if Logan had the regenerative abilities of a werewolf, being killed over and over would eventually trap him in an endless cycle of death.
The area in front of the gym was swarming with police officers, all armed and on high alert. Although they were just a short distance away, they hadn't been able to provide assistance in time. It wasn't that they were slow—it was because the gym had been enveloped in a thick black fog, making it impossible for them to enter.
As the survivors emerged, the police remained cautious, holding back for a moment before approaching to make sure no supernatural entities had followed them out. After all, in a world overrun by the supernatural, one couldn't be too careful.
"Boss, it's over. We made it out alive!"Logan said, turning to Evelyn, who was standing silently, staring at the gym with a blank expression. He couldn't tell if she was more shaken by the supernatural encounter or if she was lamenting the loss of her business. After all, who would dare come back to the gym now?
"Logan, thank you!"Evelyn suddenly snapped out of her daze and hugged him tightly. She knew that they had all survived because of Logan. His quick thinking had saved them.
Logan, momentarily stunned by the embrace, was very aware of the scent of Evelyn's sporty perfume and the warmth of her body pressed against his. To his embarrassment, he felt a surge of desire.
"You…"
Evelyn was about to say something when she sensed the change in Logan's body temperature and realized what had happened. With a playful grin, she hugged him even tighter, teasing him further.
"Don't… don't hold me so tight…"Logan stammered, struggling to control the werewolf urges that were threatening to overwhelm him.
"Hmph, you little rascal! I'll let you off this time."Evelyn finally released him, a mischievous smile on her face as she noticed Logan's flustered state. Her cheeks flushed slightly as well, but she maintained her teasing tone.
Logan quickly turned away, trying to regain his composure by thinking of the least arousing images he could—anything to suppress the primal urges brought on by his werewolf nature.
The black fog around the gym gradually dissipated. The entity that had masqueraded as a fitness coach must have fled. Police teams formed ranks and began advancing into the building, each squad accompanied by a figure in strange attire—masked and mysterious.
Several of these masked figures, carrying devices that resembled metal detectors, approached the survivors and began scanning them.
"What the hell are you doing? I just escaped with my life, and now you're scanning me?!"One of the more hot-tempered survivors protested, feeling violated and angry.
"Shut up! We're saving your life! Who knows if the supernatural left something on you? If you don't want to die, stay still!"One of the masked figures snapped back, clearly not in the mood for arguments. He had a point—who could say if the supernatural hadn't left some sort of curse or trace on the survivors? No one wanted to risk it.
The disgruntled survivor reluctantly sat back down, grumbling but unwilling to cause more trouble.
Logan felt a surge of anxiety. He himself was now part supernatural—a werewolf. What would happen if they detected that? Would he have to flee, disappearing into the wilderness to avoid being hunted?
His thoughts were cut short when one of the masked figures approached with a scanner. Fortunately for Logan, the device suddenly malfunctioned, emitting a loud beep before its lights flickered off.
"D*mn it, out of power!"The masked figure muttered in frustration, before grabbing another scanner and moving on to the next person, Evelyn.
"That was close!"Logan breathed a sigh of relief. His secret remained safe, for now. If anyone discovered his werewolf nature, he would be forced to leave human society and hide for the rest of his life.
Once the scans were completed and the area declared secure, the survivors were taken to ambulances for medical treatment and questioning.
A young police officer approached Logan, carrying a notepad. He greeted him with a friendly smile.
"Logan Blake, right? We owe you big time!"
The officer had heard from the other survivors that this fit young man had shown incredible bravery and quick thinking, helping everyone escape the supernatural entity's clutches.
"I just did what I had to—survival instinct, really,"Logan replied modestly, trying not to seem arrogant. He knew he had taken a huge risk, but it had paid off.
"Don't downplay it. You're the first ordinary person in our city to survive a direct encounter with a supernatural entity—and to lead so many others out alive!"The young officer's admiration was genuine, his praise sincere.
"Ordinary? What about those guys?"Logan asked, pointing to the masked figures who were still scanning survivors, hoping to glean more information.
"Oh, they're definitely not ordinary! Those are agents from the Demon Slayer Bureau!"The officer blurted out before clapping a hand over his mouth, realizing he had said too much. It was classified information.
"Demon Slayer Bureau?"Logan repeated the name in his mind. From the sound of it, this was an organization dedicated to fighting the supernatural. Humanity had found a way to fight back.
But Logan was also aware of the delicate balance he had to maintain. As a werewolf—a creature now part supernatural himself—he couldn't fully trust the Demon Slayer Bureau. One wrong move, and they could decide he was a threat that needed to be eliminated.
