When the dishes were served, Logan looked at the sizzling, greasy meat, but a wave of nausea washed over him. Ever since gaining the power to transform into a werewolf, his appetite had grown significantly, allowing him to consume large amounts of food. Normally, he should have enjoyed roasted meat.
But now, he couldn't even bear to look at the succulent, spice-covered meat. It felt like... like someone had placed something as disgusting as toilet waste on the table. The dripping juices from the meat looked like yellowing, foul liquid.
Evelyn was still on the phone, absentmindedly picking up a piece of meat with her chopsticks, ready to put it in her mouth. Fighting the urge to vomit, Logan reached over and grabbed her wrist, stopping her from eating.
"What's wrong?"
Evelyn noticed her boyfriend's pale expression and quickly ended her phone call. Sitting next to Logan, she asked with concern.
"There's something wrong!"
Logan whispered in her ear. His body's reaction was clearly signaling something.
"Should we leave? Not eat anymore?"
Evelyn whispered back, her voice soft as she leaned closer to him. Their closeness made it appear as though they were being intimate, so the waitstaff didn't notice anything unusual.
"Yeah!"
Logan quickly stood up with Evelyn, unable to endure the nauseating scene any longer. The thought of that waste-like substance, elegantly served in fine dishes, sitting on the table, was enough to make him vomit.
As the two were about to leave, a man in a sharp suit curiously approached them. He was none other than the owner of the barbecue restaurant, Zach Xun.
"Why are you two leaving so soon? The food just arrived,"
Zach asked, glancing at Evelyn. His eyes lit up, though there was no malice in them.
"My boyfriend isn't feeling well, so we'll pass on dinner. I'm taking him to the hospital. Don't worry, I'll settle the bill,"
Evelyn replied casually, brushing off Zach's concern. She didn't give him a chance to continue the conversation, pulling Logan along as they headed downstairs.
Zach opened his mouth as if to say something, but seeing that they were already gone, he chuckled to himself and walked over to the table where Logan and Evelyn had been sitting. The waitstaff, noticing the boss taking a seat, stopped in their tracks and returned to their posts without a word.
"So close..."
Zach murmured under his breath, his gaze wandering to the bustling street outside. His thoughts, however, remained hidden.
"What was that about earlier?"
Evelyn asked as she clung to Logan's arm, her expression curious. Now that they were outside the restaurant, Logan seemed back to normal, showing no signs of illness.
"There was something wrong with the meat! I—"
Logan paused, realizing it was too complicated to explain right now. He sighed and continued,
"This has to do with my secret. Let's head home, and I'll come clean about everything."
"Alright! I'll order something else for delivery. It should arrive just in time for us to eat while you explain,"
Evelyn replied with a playful smile, her eyes gleaming with excitement. She had been dying to know Logan's secret for a while—it was, after all, the key to taking their relationship to the next level.
Logan smiled back, casting a glance over his shoulder at the barbecue restaurant. It was still packed, a long line of people waiting outside. He couldn't help but wonder what strange and terrifying forces were lurking behind that seemingly ordinary establishment...
"Evelyn, what I'm about to tell you... don't be afraid,"
Logan said seriously, sitting across from her at the dining table once they got home.
"I'm your girlfriend, I won't be scared!"
Evelyn replied, her eyes full of interest as she looked at Logan, ready to listen attentively.
"I'm something... unusual,"
Logan began, his gaze locked on Evelyn's beautiful eyes. He had prepared himself for the possibility of being rejected. If Evelyn couldn't accept him, he'd leave the city and disappear into the wilderness.
"I'm half... supernatural. Something frightening."
"Supernatural? You?"
Evelyn leaned in, her tight-fitting t-shirt revealing a tantalizing glimpse of cleavage. She pinched Logan's cheek playfully, poking at his chest with her finger.
"You're just my handsome guy!"
"I'm serious,"
Logan insisted, seeing that Evelyn wasn't taking him seriously.
"I can transform. Right now, I'm in my human form, but I'm a werewolf."
Evelyn's smile didn't fade. Instead, she moved even closer, her face inches from his.
"Are you going to hurt me? Eat me?"
she teased, her voice a soft whisper.
"Of course not. I just want to protect you, keep you safe in this world full of dangers,"
Logan said earnestly, his heart in his words.
"Even though I'm a werewolf, I'm still human. I don't want to harm anyone."
"That's all I needed to hear,"
Evelyn said with a laugh, wrapping her arms around him.
"I don't care what you are. You're still my boyfriend, my Logan."
"But I'm really scary,"
Logan warned, his tone serious.
"If you saw my transformation, you'd have nightmares."
"I don't believe you,"
Evelyn said, her voice filled with playful disbelief.
"Unless you show me."
A mischievous smile spread across her face, and there was a hint of anticipation in her eyes.
