Resignation Letter 2

Anya's fists clenched as she met Harlan's cold stare. Her heart pounded, but she forced herself to sound calm. "There's no way I can convince Kai to let you and Liam go," she insisted. "It's not possible."

Harlan grinned smugly. "Then you better prepare for your dirty little secret to become public knowledge," he taunted. "Fail to convince him, and everyone finds out."

Anya gulped. They both knew that what he was asking of her was more than impossible. She tried to find a way to negotiate, to make him understand the weight of his demand. But before she could continue, Liam spoke up.

"You convinced them to let me go once," he interrupted. "You can do it again."

She turned to him. "It doesn't work like that, Liam. The circumstances are different now."

But neither Harlan nor Liam cared. Harlan leaned forward. "Three days," he said. "That's all you get."
