Chapter 56

Adeline tried to think of what to do. She couldn't upset her father, but she didn't want to lose her husband. It couldn't be helped how involved she was in pushing her family to the top.

She did it to please her relatives and the rewards were worth working hard for.

Adeline drowned what little wine she had left in her glass. The reason she stopped drinking wasn't because she saw the need to quit but because her father wanted her to always be ready for when he needed her so she couldn't drink anymore.

It was a slap in the face to watch him and her brother enjoy themselves with drinks when they had events to attend. It was a few drinks to celebrate with their peers but Benjamin was the one with the drinking problem she worked hard to hide.

Adeline stood up from her seat and walked to the phone. She dialled her father's number and prepared for the scolding she would hear.
