Father and daughter both gasped in surprise.
Charlie also shouted along with them.
"Hey, Mr. George, I'm really sorry for the trouble I've caused, but please believe me, it wasn't intentional. I'm just too amazing."
He waved, greeting them, "Admitting that others are amazing is hard, but admitting that you're amazing? Now, that's not so hard, right?"
"Are you mocking me?" George asked with a helpless expression.
Seeing Spider-Man again, George felt like maybe he didn't dislike him anymore.
Actually, he realized he had just been hating himself.
He finally saw it clearly.
Seeing her father's emotions stabilize, Gwen secretly sighed in relief.
Standing behind George, she discreetly gave Charlie an "OK" sign.
She was very grateful that Spider-Man took the initiative to find her and teach her how to help her father resolve his inner struggles.
Charlie nodded slightly, then raised his hand and snapped his fingers.
"Chirp chirp!"
The little spider swooped in from outside and landed in his palm. "Mr. George, it's time for your superpowers to go."
George was stunned for a moment before extending his hand willingly.
He had seen that guy using the hoverboard let the little spider absorb those creatures' mutated cells.
The little spider jumped onto George's palm, its two fangs piercing his skin.
"Buzz~"
The red and blue magical glow flickered faintly, and George's wrist web-shooting organ merged back into his skin, visible to the naked eye.
Witnessing this magical sight, George was stunned.
Gwen, standing beside him, spoke up: "Actually, you could keep the superpower. It could help you solve cases."
George shook his head and looked at Charlie.
"Thank you, Spider-Man. I assume you'll be finding the rest of the spider-virus infected individuals and restoring them to their original state, right?"
"Of course." Charlie had already planned to do just that.
The mutated spiders couldn't possibly be that simple, and to avoid any future trouble, he decided to "purge" all the infected individuals.
Including Uncle Ben and Aunt May.
It was really dangerous for them to possess such power.
The danger came from Spider-Man's temporary foe, Kingpin.
Charlie guessed that Kingpin might still be attempting to capture the infected individuals for experiments.
With Charlie's response, George turned and smiled at Gwen.
"You heard that—no one is exempt, especially not me."
"I understand, Father."
Within just a few minutes, the barrier between father and daughter had completely vanished. Charlie knew it was time for him to leave.
Without interrupting them, he summoned the little spider back and leaped out the window.
"Wait, Spider-Man..."
Gwen suddenly remembered she hadn't properly thanked him.
She followed him out of the window, only to realize something the next second.
She no longer had superpowers.
"Gwen!!"
George nervously leaned out the window, only to see the red-and-blue figure swing by, grabbing Gwen mid-fall and quickly disappearing into the night.
Seeing this, George finally breathed a sigh of relief. His pale face slowly regained some color.
"This reckless girl, Spider-Man has saved her three times now."
He shook his head with a smile, his eyes filled with boundless relief.
This was the day Gwen had called him "Father" the most times.
On the rooftop of a nearby apartment building.
Underneath the billboard, this was Charlie and Gwen's favorite spot to hang out.
"Hey, here you go."
Charlie handed Gwen the coffee he had just bought.
"Thanks."
Gwen took the steaming coffee and took a small sip.
"Thank you, Spider-Man, you're really great," she said, looking down.
Charlie waved his hand, then turned and leaned on the short wall of the rooftop, gazing at the neon lights in the distance.
"No need to thank me, it's what a good neighbor should do."
Gwen moved next to Charlie, leaning on the short wall with her elbows.
The night breeze gently tousled her shoulder-length hair, and the golden strands framed her face with a relaxed and faint smile.
"How did you know that George was also a spider-mutant?" she asked.
"I have a special device made by S.H.I.E.L.D."
"S.H.I.E.L.D.—they're the ones who saved me, right?"
"Yes, and they should be announcing their existence to the public pretty soon."
Charlie said, taking a step away from her.
Gwen noticed this small detail and smiled.
"From your voice, you sound young. Are you shy?" She grew more interested in Spider-Man.
Charlie shook his head. "No, it's just that you haven't showered yet—you smell."
Gwen: "..."
Embarrassed, she tucked her hair behind her ear. "Sorry, I overthought it."
"No worries, I forgive you."
Charlie thought for a moment. "But you'll have to pay me back for the coffee."
Gwen frowned; Spider-Man was nothing like the hero she imagined.
Could this guy be a fake?
Hmm, he reminds me of that guy who always ran away.
Wait, not just similar!
A thought crossed Gwen's mind, and she seemed to understand something.
A smile returned to her face.
"Thank you, Spider-Man, you've saved me four times now."
Charlie scratched his head. "That many times? I never kept count... Don't try to change the subject—you still have to pay me back for the coffee."
Gwen wasn't the type to shirk responsibility; she propped her chin up and looked at Charlie.
"Alright, I'll pay you back, but I need to go home to get the money. I'm only wearing pajamas."
"You didn't even shower before putting on pajamas—so sloppy."
"I was just too tired. I'm actually very clean."
"Okay, I believe you. Goodbye, I should get going."
"Can you take me back? It's so high up here."
"No, I'll only take you downstairs. It's pretty close to your house."
"It's late, it's dangerous."
"You know martial arts; I don't believe you'd be in danger."
After saying that, Charlie fell silent.
Seemed like he had slipped up.
But it didn't matter—he only revealed an alter ego of an alter ego.
"I'm leaving."
He shot a web and swung Gwen down to the ground, then leaped up the tall building.
"See you tomorrow!" Gwen shouted from the street.
"Tomorrow I'm off, no overtime."
...
The next day.
Empire State University.
"Vroom~"
Charlie rode his motorcycle, roaring into campus.
He was behind in many of his courses, and his credits certainly weren't enough, so today he planned to catch up.
He had signed up for Dr. Otto's clean energy course.
Walking into the classroom, Charlie immediately spotted a familiar figure sitting at the front.
Today, Gwen's outfit was youthful and vibrant—he always liked hanging out with pretty girls.
"Hey, Gwen, nice to see you again."
Charlie greeted her and sat down next to her without feeling anything was wrong.
However, the other students started whispering among themselves.
"Is that Charlie Parker?"
"Yeah, he was pretty famous a while back."
"He's still quite famous."
"I know him—he sent Gwen lots of roses. He's trying to win her over."
"Oh my god, he's the funny guy. There's no way our goddess Gwen would like him."
Charlie's sharp senses picked up on their words, and he immediately thought of Harry's handiwork.
He then realized that his behavior might be a little too forward.
Gwen knew Spider-Man, but she might not remember Charlie Parker.
He glanced at Gwen, who was staring straight ahead, and was about to quietly pick up his bag and slip to the back.
"Charlie, are you avoiding me?" Gwen said softly.
"Uh, no, I just feel like it's too cramped here, so I wanted to move to the back... You remember me?" Charlie asked in confusion.
Gwen looked at Charlie and smiled faintly, "I know Mary Jane. You were her hero—once."
Charlie's brow furrowed, and he put his bag down again.
"Her hero now is Spider-Man," he said.
"Yes."
Gwen spun the pen in her hand, continuing, "She told me a lot about you, and I think you deserve it."
"That girl is a hopeless romantic—don't take her too seriously," Charlie seemed unconcerned.
But Gwen was unhappy with Charlie's attitude.
"Do you dislike Mary Jane?" she frowned.
"No, I don't."
"Then why are you not interested in her? She's beautiful—the prettiest girl I've ever met."
"You don't understand—I'm doing it for her own good."
"Tell me, and I might understand."
"Are you sticking up for your friend?"
Charlie picked up his bag again, planning to put some distance between them.
All these questions—how annoying.
"Alright, everyone, class is starting."
At that moment, a middle-aged man with curly hair walked into the classroom, extinguishing Charlie's intention to move.
"Today, I have prepared a simple topic for you all—the tritium element initial phase calculation for the artificial sun experiment. I have faith in you."
"Well, only a little bit of faith."
Dr. Otto entered the classroom and began writing complex formulas on the blackboard, paying no attention to the pained expressions on the students' faces.
It was well known that Dr. Otto's classes were the hardest and most boring.
But as long as you had the right attitude, you could earn enough credits in his class.
Provided you listened attentively.
But this time seemed different—Dr. Otto was using the artificial sun experiment as the topic for today's lesson. It was practically a death sentence.
A lot of brain cells would die.
The students sighed and groaned, but Dr. Otto didn't care.
He had the qualifications to be arrogant.
So he just taught. Whether they learned was none of his concern.
He only cared about true geniuses and more funding for experiments.
Meanwhile, Gwen was still fixated on Charlie's attitude towards Mary Jane.
She whispered, "I hope you treat Mary Jane better."
Charlie rolled his eyes. "I haven't done anything bad to her."
"You're being bad right now."
"She can't see it."
"You... You used to be different when you were younger. Mary Jane told me it was you who helped her when she was at her lowest..."
Gwen seemed a bit agitated, and her voice grew louder, immediately drawing Dr. Otto's displeasure.
"Whispering is one thing, but being this loud is very disrespectful."
He turned and looked at Gwen and Charlie, his gaze settling on Gwen.
"Miss Gwen, why don't you start? Let me see what you've learned in my lab. Hopefully, it's not how to speak loudly during class," he said sternly.
Gwen's face stiffened, but she knew she couldn't refuse a reasonable request.
"Sorry, Professor, I'll do my best."
With that, she shot a glare at Charlie and began scribbling on her notes with a pained expression.
Even though it was just the initial phase of the formula, there was no way she could solve it in just one class.
Even if she had a whole month, she probably wouldn't be able to solve it.
This wasn't her field of expertise.
Before Charlie could relish her misfortune, Dr. Otto spoke again.
"And the student next to her—yes, you. Don't look away. The one in the Spider-Man colored jacket. You too, give it a try."
Charlie: "..."
This was collateral damage.
Gwen had a mischievous grin—at least she wasn't the only one in trouble.
Charlie glanced at Gwen and then buried his head to do the math.
But...
This problem was way too hard!
I... don't... know...!
Guess I'll have to call for some backup.
He pretended to be thinking, but his hands under the desk were busy.
...
Stark Tower.
"Tony, someone's trying to reach you."
In the armor lab, Pepper knocked on the door and waved her phone.
"It's that guy."
Tony, busy modifying his armor, turned his head. Seeing that special phone, he put down his work.
He stepped out of the lab, took the phone, and looked at it.
"Why is this guy interested in nuclear fusion experiments?" he laughed.
Pepper curiously peeked over. "Who's contacting you?"
"Spider-Man."
"Spider-Man?"
Pepper looked stunned. "How did he get your contact info?"
"I gave him a business card after we dealt with that disgusting spider-monster."
Tony chuckled. "I thought he'd want to collaborate on other projects. I didn't expect he'd be interested in the field of nuclear fusion."
"Are you going to help him?"
"Of course. Although nuclear fusion and my arc reactor's cold fusion are completely different reaction mechanisms, I'm a genius—this little problem won't stump me."
Tony spoke while raising his hand to tap the virtual computer, quickly inputting the calculation process and the result he came to afterward.
"This initial phase calculation formula is way too basic. Let me spice it up a bit. If Spider-Man thinks he can stump me with something like this, he's naive."
The more Tony calculated, the more excited he got. Time passed quickly.
...
"Time's up."
In the classroom, Dr. Otto clapped his hands.
"Everyone else may leave—Gwen and this student stay."
Upon hearing that, the students immediately swarmed out of the classroom, leaving behind just two unlucky ones.
No, only one unlucky one.
"I'm Charlie, Charlie Parker."
Having finally finished copying the answer, Charlie wore a confident smile.
Upon hearing his name, Otto raised an eyebrow.
"I know you. Curt Connors has mentioned you to me. You're his most promising student. You're smart, and you have talent. But you need to understand—our research projects are completely different."
Perhaps because of Professor Connors, Otto's stern expression softened considerably.
"Looks like you have an answer."
"Yes."
Charlie stood up, and Gwen beside him was filled with disbelief.
"That's impossible!" she muttered.
"Nothing's impossible," Charlie boasted to Gwen.
For a time traveler, having a cheat code was a must.
Then, he handed his draft to Dr. Otto, turning away dramatically.
At that moment, he felt like his entire body was radiating the glow of a top student—shining brilliantly.
"Where are you going? I haven't even started looking yet," Otto suddenly called after Charlie.
Charlie: "..."
He silently put his raised foot back down.
How awkward!
Otto casually glanced at the draft—he wasn't expecting much.
But that one glance made it impossible for Dr. Otto to stay calm.
"What?!"
His face filled with shock. He realized that Charlie hadn't given him just the initial phase answer—he had provided the calculations for the first three phases of the tritium element, including an approach that Otto had never thought of before, which could more quickly and accurately yield the desired result.
A genius!
A true genius!
Curt Connors, you selfish man—you had Charlie Parker studying your useless regeneration experiments.
What a waste of his talent.
He should be in my lab, helping me perfect my artificial sun experiment.
Benefit all of humanity, win a Nobel Prize!
That's the purpose of his existence!
