Chapter 190 – Transition

Endeavor lay in a hospital bed. Out of everyone involved in the mission to take down the 'League of Villains,' he was the only one who nearly lost his life.

The other heroes had collapsed on the spot after being infected by the 'Plaguebringer,' but ambulances quickly arrived and transported them to the hospital. After examination, doctors confirmed that they had only contracted an enhanced version of 'Quirk Flu.' The symptoms seemed severe, but the treatment was similar to that of a regular flu—serious on the surface, but not actually life-threatening.

Only Endeavor had to be rushed into emergency care. Even 'Recovery Girl' came to heal him with her Quirk, barely saving his life. Surviving after pushing himself to the brink of death was nothing short of a miracle.

Three days passed, and Endeavor remained unconscious. Todoroki Shoto visited frequently during this time. No matter how much he disliked him, Endeavor was still his father.

But Shoto wasn't the only one who came. His older brother and sister were also there. Seeing their father lying in a hospital bed, unconscious, none of them said a word.

They hated him. They resented him.

And yet, now that he was on the verge of death, as his children, they couldn't help but hope that the man they despised would get back up.

"Shoto… I need to talk to you."

"Natsu-nii?"

Todoroki Shoto's older brother, Todoroki Natsuo, waved him over from the hospital room door. Shoto wasn't sure what this was about, but he still followed his brother outside. Meanwhile, their sister, Todoroki Fuyumi, watched them leave with concern.

Once they found a quiet spot where no one was around, Natsuo stopped and turned to face his younger brother. He spoke seriously.

"…Do you remember our big brother, Touya?"

"Touya…?"

Shoto dug into his memories. He had been around four years old back then. He remembered wanting to play with his siblings, only to be dragged away by Endeavor for harsh training.

It had been so long ago… but he could still faintly recall it. His second brother, Todoroki Natsuo. His older sister, Todoroki Fuyumi. And his eldest brother… Todoroki Touya.

Shoto had been very young at the time, but he vaguely remembered that after Touya disappeared from home, their mother had changed completely. It was because of this that he got the burn scar on his face.

This was a forbidden topic in their family. His siblings never brought it up, and their father, Endeavor, seemed to have completely forgotten that he even had an eldest son. Their mother had been sent to the hospital by that bastard of a father.

"I remember… But Touya left home years ago, didn't he?"

Their big brother had run away and vanished without a trace. Over the years, there had been no news of him. If Natsuo hadn't brought it up now, Shoto might have forgotten he even had a big brother.

"Touya has appeared again… He goes by the name 'Dabi' now."

"…What!?"

Hearing what his older brother, Todoroki Natsuo, just said, Todoroki Shoto was so shocked that his mind nearly shut down. What was going on!?

He froze for a moment, recalling the recent forest training camp incident—his brief encounter with "Dabi." When the "League of Villains" was retreating, that man with burn scars on his face and body had said something to him:

"Todoroki Shoto, tell Endeavor I said hi!"

At the time, Todoroki hadn't thought much about it. But now, hearing what Natsuo just said… something about all this felt very off.

"This came from All Might. Given the situation, there's no doubt about it."

Natsuo slowly explained. After Endeavor was rushed to the hospital and stabilized, All Might had come to visit him. That was when he ran into Natsuo and Fuyumi.

After the visit, All Might pulled Endeavor's son and daughter aside and told them everything about Endeavor and Dabi. Normally, this wasn't something an outsider should say… but All Might had long given up on meddling in Endeavor's family issues. He decided to just tell Natsuo and Fuyumi outright, since they had the right to know.

All Might was a great hero, but he couldn't solve other people's family problems. The best he could do was give the Todoroki family a chance to make peace.

Now, knowing all this, Todoroki Shoto fell silent. His long-lost older brother was alive, now calling himself "Dabi," and had joined the "League of Villains." No matter how he looked at it, this was nothing to be happy about.

Meanwhile, at the "League of Villains" hideout, Midoriya Izuku sat in front of Dabi with a serious expression, casually shoving Toga Himiko away as she tried to inch closer. He stared at Dabi and asked,

"Dabi, are you really Endeavor's son? Todoroki Shoto's older brother?"

"I don't want to admit that I'm that man's son, but… yeah, it's true."

"I see…"

Midoriya now had a clearer understanding of Dabi. No wonder he had joined the "League of Villains." Deep down, this man held nothing but resentment and hatred for his father, Endeavor, and the entire hero society.

"Well… I won't hold this against you. But you almost got me killed back there."

Midoriya rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache coming on. If Dabi hadn't suddenly revealed his identity and forced Endeavor to go all out, their plan wouldn't have run into so many problems. He had nearly been captured by All Might and Togata Mirio. In the end, it was all because he hadn't known enough about his own allies.

"One more thing—I have to warn you. If you really plan to kill Endeavor, then there's no turning back for you."

"Turning back? …Don't make me laugh. Leader, haven't you already stepped onto a path of no return yourself?"

Dabi's words left Midoriya speechless. He wasn't wrong… Midoriya had long since set foot on an irreversible path. From the moment he chose to become a villain, to fighting against the heroes, he had become Japan's most wanted criminal.

But… this was different.

Midoriya stood up and faced Dabi. He wasn't very tall, but the pressure he gave off was heavy.

"I act to deliver the death sentence to those who are beyond redemption. So remember this—"

"If you kill Endeavor and commit patricide, then, Dabi… no, Todoroki Touya! You will also become my target."

"So, make your choice wisely…"

With that, Midoriya turned and left. Hopefully, his warning would get through… Otherwise, having to kill a friend he actually liked would be quite troublesome.
