Trapped

"Hey!! who are you kidding?! let me in" the little boy , with his head peeking out and the door half closed stuck out a tongue with mischief. Akena didn't have any time for silly little pranks she just wanted to see familiar faces to ease her mind and yet this wretched creature stood in her way- she thought to herself. Akena pushed the door, uncaring for the boy who tumbled down due to Akena's forceful entry. "Piss off", she said with a face of annoyance before ascending the staircase to her room. The little boy couldn't help crying out for his mother complaining. Akena couldn't care less.

As she approached her room door, she finally remembered why she had descended the stairs at that time in the first place, to ask permission for the removal of the creaking door. She sighed with a tired expression spread across her face. Her body ached to rest and her mind ached to find the comfort of soft sheets underlying her and the familiarity of home. Though she didn't consider this place her home..yet this is where she had to return to at the end of the day.

She opened the door, the creaking noise no longer bothered her as she had much more to fear now than the creaking of a door. She rushed in the room, her steps feather light and buried herself in the sheets covering the bed. Relief and a sense of comfort overwhelmed her, she let out a heavy breath which she did not realize she holding and a feeling of pleasantness washed over her as she drifted off to a deep slumber.

Her body relaxed into the bedding and her breath stabled after a long time. These two days felt like a horse race that nobody could win and yet someone had to win. The chase and the chaser seemed so mere now to Akena that even if the shadow would linger in front of her she would continue to sleep, despite being completely aware of it's presence. No one could wring her out of her deep sleep that she had finally gotten after two days of the horrific adventure.

Hours passed by and Akena didn't wake up. 8 hours. She had now been asleep for hours . The sun had set and the moonlight reflected on her face. It was time for dinner and a fuss had started downstairs. Loud voices of a grown man and woman, arguing reminded Akena of her parents, the memory she wished to completely erase from her mind as she winced in her sleep from the memory before slowly fluttering her eyelashes open. "Ugh" she pressed her hand to her forehead as a sharp pain ran across her forehead.

All of a sudden, the wail of a child reaches Akena's ears. With wonder Akena steps down her bed, approaching her room door to descend the stairs. And again with the annoying the creak, Akena exited the room and descended the stairs slowly and curiously.

"Why would you let her go?! You know we can't lose her !!" - the lady screamed a the young twin.

The man, the father of the family's eyes fell upon the girl descending the stairs. Akena flinched as for the first time a change of expression was seen on the man's face, though not a pleasant face -it was a glare, a cold glare that made Akena freeze in her steps.

"Ah..there she is!" - the mother spoke with a mocking tone as she noticed the place her husband's gaze had traveled to. Each member of that family stood there with a scowling expression while they looked at Akena. How much of this unreasonable hatred should she bear? She wasn't obliged to bear it so should she? She thought to herself before approaching and coming closer to the family-

"What's..the matter...mo-..madam? - Akena asked nervously. Her premonitions had never turned out to be false and this case was no exception. "What's the matter?!! Are you in you're right mind to be saying that after disappearing for an entire night ?!" - The woman lunged at the poor girl with flaming eyes. "What..are you...- SHUT UP!!" the woman interrupted Akena before she could explain herself. Was this seriously happening ? was she seriously going along with her own story like i was the one who chose to stay outside..? , Akena thought to herself and the unfairness of the situation.

"But you were the one!!!- interrupted again, but this time not only with words. Mother's hand stroke Akena's cheek with a quick pace. Akena's cheek stung as her eyes remained widened by the surprise and her cheek reddened from the pain. When Akena turned her head to look towards the woman, she had an anxious expression on her face herself, as if she was terrified of her husband finding out the truth..but why..? The man's surprise at his wife's action left even him speechless, surprised. But Akena couldn't care less about any of the people who stood before her anymore. She continued- "You were the one who let me out that door with unreasonable contempt towards me!!! i didn't ask to be stranded with bugs!!" - Akena finished her sentence-it ending with a cold glare from her "mother". Akena knew that the consequence of her action wouldn't fare well for her but she was satisfied if it meant that the woman would lose her husband's favor even if it is only for a while.

Akena rushed back to her room, to avoid facing the woman and closed the door of her, smiling to herself as if she had achieved a great feat. Only to be reminded later that this family wasn't humane even towards each other.
