Lilith had already mailed him his schedule and gathered the files he requested. Knocking on his office door, she waited for his familiar voice.

"Yes," came Sebastian's cold, clipped reply.

She walked in, her eyes immediately drawn to his face. The tension in his jaw was evident, and the veins on his temple were visible. His lips were pressed into a thin line, and his usually sharp eyes looked dull and tried. He seemed far from his usual composed self.

Lilith hesitated for a second but then stepped closer to him, her heels clicking softly against the floor. "Sir, these are the files you asked for," she said calmly.

Sebastian nodded wordlessly and reached for them, his movements slower than usual. But as Lilith handed him the files, she noticed his hand tremble slightly. She bit her lip, a rare flicker of concern crossing her face.

This isn't like him at all, she thought.
