FLASHBACK
The bonfire crackled in the heart of the colony's square, casting its light over the cobblestones and the crowd gathered for the seasonal celebration that happening once every blue moon in Navar. The air was alive with music, the lilting notes of a lute blending with the steady beat of a drum. Villagers danced in joyous circles, their laughter ringing out into the warm night.
Lily stood near the edge of the square, her father's protective hand resting lightly on her shoulder. As the daughter of the colony's head, she was used to her parents' watchful eyes, especially during public gatherings.
"Stay where the firelight touches," her father said, his voice low but firm. "These nights are meant for celebration, but shadows still lurk around."
Her mother, standing beside him, nodded in agreement. "And no wandering into the woods. Not tonight, Lily."
