When everything was almost ready, the meat could be placed in a bowl, all of it stacked atop each other, piece by piece. Once everything was arranged, it could be placed in the steamer.
The other half, without salt, wouldn't be cooked just yet. Two connected slices of meat had red bean paste stuffed between them. The fat had to be removed, placed at the bottom of a bowl, arranged in a circle. Then in went the steamed sweetened glutinous rice. The steaming began.
When the time was almost right, they took it out, flipped the bowl over, and it transformed into a round stack with glutinous rice at the bottom and a layer of fat and red bean paste on top — the glutinous rice and meat dish.
Meanwhile, the pickles with meat were also ready with layers of pickles below and meat on top, offering two completely distinct flavors.
The aroma filled the air, and Bai Fei and Bai Xiang couldn't help drooling.
