During the days following the diner incident, the diner had become a bustling hub for the DFurious community. Not only were members gathering there but also drifting enthusiasts who were curious to glimpse the action. Surprisingly, despite the confrontation between Hisashi and Tawa, the notorious rival from DriftOne, the days passed with no trouble, much to everyone's relief.
Between weekends and Wednesdays, Hisashi would venture out into the nights near Fuhi Station, where the roads winding up into the mountains were quiet and less congested. It was the perfect spot for practicing skills without worrying about collateral damage or irresponsible behavior.
Hisashi knew these mountains well, as they held sentimental value from her childhood. It was where Kumoku had taken her for driving lessons at a young age, sparking her natural talent with cars. Memories of Kumoku and her late father racing and practicing in these very streets flooded back, reminding her of her roots and the journey that had led her here.
With timestamps registered individually and drones recording their races, they would review the footage for feedback and skill improvement. At first, Hisashi felt nervous, having her skills scrutinized by someone other than her uncle, but as the recordings revealed her talent, she earned admiration from her team members, especially Hen Akoto, whose dark eyes gleamed with excitement and admiration.
Hisashi was wary of emotional entanglements because of a past unhealthy relationship that forced her family to move that thankfully result in the restaurant's opening, beloved to Aimi. It had been years since she had entertained the idea of a relationship, and her social skills were rusty at best.
Xiangua's presence during the team's practices often drew an amused eye-roll from Hisashi. She would frequently arrive, intending to scout for potential partners, a notion that Hisashi found rather amusing considering the context of their activities. However, Xiangua's focus shifted when Yuri entered on his motorcycle. Hisashi couldn't help but notice the shift in atmosphere that accompanied Yuri's arrival.
Yuri's presence seemed to trigger a cascade of reactions among the members of the group. Laughter echoed louder, accompanied by additional remarks and playful banter. Hen Akoto's responses were a mix of groans and playful hushes, signaling his familiarity with Yuri's antics. Alexander, always one to revel in the camaraderie, joined in with laughter and jovial pats on the back for both Yuri and Hen, thoroughly enjoying the interaction between the two friends.
As Hisashi spent more time with the team, she noticed the dynamics between the members more keenly. One aspect that stood out prominently to her was the admiration the team held for Hen Akoto. He is highly regarded and respected, and it came as no surprise he held the position of team leader. Hisashi observed how Hen possessed an uncanny insight into the world of drifting, coupled with a down-to-earth demeanor and an eloquent way of communicating with his team members. He always greeted everyone warmly and to show appreciation for their efforts.
In contrast, Alexander took on a different role within the group. He seemed to thrive on organization and structure, relishing in numbers, stats, and data. Hisashi often observed him trailing behind Hen Akoto, diligently jotting down notes and collecting information. Despite Hen's more laid-back approach, Alexander was always there to keep things on track, often bantering with him and reminding him of various tasks and responsibilities.
Despite their differing styles, the level of seriousness surprised Hisashi both Hen and Alexander exhibited for the team's performance. Even though the group operated in a clandestine manner, with no official recognition, they approached their activities with a level of dedication and commitment that impressed Hisashi.
One aspect of the dynamic that Hisashi found particularly intriguing was the relationship between Hen and Yuri. Yuri seemed to have a profound impact on Hen, possessing an innate ability to disarm him with ease. Hisashi had heard rumors that Yuri and Hen had been childhood friends, which suggested a deep and intimate connection between the two. This stood in contrast to Alexander, who had been Hen Akoto's roommate for the past five years. The dynamic between the three of them added an intriguing layer to the team's interactions, one that Hisashi observed with interest.
As Hisashi observed the interactions between Alexander and his girlfriend, Rose, she couldn't help but notice the distinct aura that Rose exuded. With a slim and modeling physique, Rose carried herself with a confident demeanor that demanded attention. Upon arriving at their late meetups, Rose's eyes landed on Hisashi in a challenging manner, her long auburn hair cascading past her shoulders as she briskly reached for Alexander's arm, as if marking her territory. The piercing gaze from her blue eyes seemed to convey a clear message to Hisashi: "This is mine."
Hisashi understood Rose's possessive gestures. After all, Alexander was undeniably attractive, with a well-built physique that many girls would undoubtedly find appealing. She observed how Alexander's behavior shifted in Rose's presence. He would always keep her by his side, their hands finding each other effortlessly, even during discussions or when recording videos for the team. Hisashi admired their relationship dynamics, always attentive and affectionate towards her. They shared a strong bond, and Hisashi couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for the way they complemented each other.
Amidst the male-dominated environment of the team, Rose's presence provided a refreshing contrast, and Hisashi couldn't help but find it endearing to witness their bond. Though she attracted attention from other male members, Hisashi's distinct aura served as a natural deterrent, allowing her to maintain her focus on the camaraderie and the shared passion for drifting.
From time to time, Hisashi would see girls hang out around. Although she talked little to them, she noticed some roam around Hen Akoto. Many of this girl were model like figures. Typical girls that showed more than should to hook guys on. It was no wonder Rose would come and visit time to time.
Hisashi couldn't help but observe the dynamic between Hen Akoto and the girls who often surrounded him. Despite his charismatic nature and the ease with which he interacted with them, Hisashi noticed a subtle shift whenever their eyes met. His cheeks would flush, and he would break eye contact, a reaction she found both endearing and intriguing.
As she observed the intimate body language exchanged between Hen Akoto and the girls, she couldn't help but wonder why he hadn't made a move on her. After all, she was no stranger to male attention herself, although she tried to remain grounded and reserved, especially after her last relationship left her feeling vulnerable.
Despite her own attractiveness and the attention she received from some guys in their community, Hisashi couldn't shake the feeling of curiosity about why Hen Akoto hadn't pursued her. Perhaps it was because she was a fellow driver, or maybe there was something else holding him back.
Regardless, Hisashi found herself drawn to his magnetic presence, wondering what it would be like to be on the receiving end of his charming gestures and attentive conversations. But for now, she remained content to watch from the sidelines, curious yet cautious about the possibilities that lay ahead.

Taking a break from practice, Alexander casually sipped his beer and glanced at Hisashi, who was absorbed in her phone. "I understand if you have questions," he offered in a conversational tone.
Hisashi looked up, curiosity apparent in her expression. "Have you raced much before?"
Shaking her head, Hisashi responded, "I've avoided it mostly unless I'm tempted to bruise some egos."
"Ouch," Alexander replied playfully, clutching his chest as if wounded. "You don't mince words, do you?"
"No point. I don't tolerate those who don't take safety seriously," Hisashi stated flatly, her gaze intense.
"Right there with you," Alexander nodded, raising his beer in a mock salute. "We make sure not to run during normal traffic hours. We choose spots and times with minimal public presence."
"Hen also coordinates with a few police officers about our activities to ensure we steer clear of the public," Alexander added.
"And the police are okay with this?" she inquired skeptically.
Alexander took a slow sip of his beer before responding. "Well, Hen has his contacts, thanks to his mother," he explained. "She holds a few significant contracts around Chunanami."
"Congress?" Hisashi asked, intrigued.
"Federal," Alexander clarified with a nod. "She's quite influential. Anyway, unlike official sport racing, our events focus more on tactics and leading from designated points."
"It's not just about the cars' capabilities then, but about who strategically takes the lead and finishes first," Hisashi mused, her interest piqued.
"Exactly," Alexander agreed. "And while we do appreciate skill and prowess, it's often more about strategy and control."
"Are the competitors aggressive?" Hisashi questioned, her phone now forgotten on the table.
"I won't lie—there are some," Alexander admitted. "Most teams are pretty humble, but that's not the case with DriftOne. They were the pioneers in our scene, and their egos are as robust as their engines."
Hisashi nodded, absorbing the information. The intricacies of the underground racing world were unfolding before her, a mix of danger and excitement that was both intimidating and thrilling.
A rather sweaty Hen Akoto sat down beside Alexander, breathing heavily after a run with another of the team members. He took Alexander's beer and drank from it. "Really?" Alexander complained.
"What are you two up to?" Hen asked, wiping the sweat from his brow.
"I was instructing Hisashi on our event rules," Alexander replied.
"Ah," Hen grinned, placing the bottle on the table. "Just shine and reach the finish line before the other does."
"That is the most mediocre explanation a team leader can offer," Alexander commented.
"But it's the most straightforward," Hen added. "No sophistications involved, unlike your language."
"I am a useful individual who has kept our record in the industry in pristine condition. Neither you nor Kenji had such abilities. I came in, and you guys didn't even know your names," Alexander mocked.
Hen Akoto flashed him a grin and glanced at Hisashi. She was looking at them with a raised eyebrow. "Pardon his irresponsibilities, Hisashi," Alexander commented.
"I am not being irresponsible—" Before Hen Akoto could argue, Hisashi grabbed the beer bottle from him. Their fingers brushed, and she felt him tense. With a grin, she drank the remaining beer and placed the empty bottle in front of Hen Akoto.
"Well then," she said, standing up. "Mr. Leader, what shall I do?"
Hen Akoto stared, at a loss for words, his cheeks turning pink. There was a short silence as he tried to gather his words. His eyes roamed over her, taking in every detail—the way her hair fell over her shoulders, the curve of her neck, the way her clothes fit her form. He noticed the way her lips parted slightly as she waited for his response, the intensity in her eyes.
Alexander burst out laughing, patting his tablet on the table. "Thank you for your understanding, Hisashi."
Hisashi smiled, now standing near the redhead, staring intently and waiting for Hen Akoto to say something. The male gulped and looked away. "Shut up, Alex."
He stood up, now almost eye level with Hisashi, his eyes once again scanning her. He took in the way her shirt clung to her curves, the way her jeans hugged her hips. His face reddened, and with a shake of his head, he turned. "I'm doing another run."
As the male walked away, Alexander clapped softly. "Congratulations, Hisashi. You're the first to render him speechless."
"Should I feel flattered?" she asked, a hint of amusement in her voice.
Alexander let out a soft laugh. "I like you already here."
As Hen Akoto walked back to the track, his mind raced with thoughts of Hisashi. He couldn't shake the image of her standing there, confident and beautiful. He knew he had to focus, but she had already left a lasting impression on him.
