Garrett laughed bitterly. "You think I'm going to betray him? That's suicide."

"It's not betrayal," Kiara said, leaning forward slightly. "It's survival. Ruddy's going down, Garrett, whether you stay loyal to him or not. The difference is, if you help us, you'll get out of this with your name intact."

For a moment, Garrett was silent, his eyes darting between them as he weighed his options. The tension hung heavy in the air, and Kiara could feel the stakes rising with every second.
