Sensei Hiruzen

Kira glanced at the empty seat on the other end of his class and sighed, 'Sakumo... why did you have to leave your only kid behind? Oh well... what's done is done. Your teammates told people that they'd have rather given up their lives for the mission right? I'll make sure that happens.'

Of course, that was his plan for the future, not now.

Two months later, everyone except Kakashi were promoted to the next class. Kakashi on the other hand, performed the shadow clone jutsu and was given a special permission to graduate.

At this moment, Kira stood in front of Benji and to his surprise, even Hiruzen was in the room. He had been summoned to the staff room and even though he expected Benji to ask him about special graduation, he didn't expect Hiruzen to be present.

"Kira, do you want to graduate early like Kakashi?" Benji asked and Kira shook his head.

"Teacher, I think I still have a lot to learn at the academy. If I graduate now, don't you think that I'll be going out unprepared? Also, I'm not done with increasing the number of kikaichu that I have."

He had stopped acting like a naive and excited kid the day Sakumo died. It had become easier for him to do his things as people gave him space, thinking that Sakumo's death had affected him badly as he was the only one Kira looked up to.

That was what everyone thought, but Kira didn't care to correct them in any sense.

Benji was surprised when he heard Kira's words, but Hiruzen was the one who spoke first.

"Kira, I heard that you beat Kakashi on the first month's tests. I was watching your fight against him yesterday and I noticed that you didn't use your clone and substitution jutsu combination. Did you let him win?"

"....."

Kira stayed silent for a while before nodding, "Yes, I didn't use my combo but I didn't exactly let him win either. I won the first time because I caught him by surprise. Even if I used my combination, he would have anticipated it, so I just didn't use it."

Hiruzen nodded as he stroked his goatee, "I see. The offer still stands, but I'll give you a special offer. Since you said you still have a lot to learn, why don't I teach you instead? I've talked to Benji and he told me that there really isn't much that he could teach you, so we both agreed that it would be better if you graduated and experienced some missions."

"But-"

"Listen first, Kira. Don't interrupt me." Hiruzen cut him off before continuing, "We'll meet in the training grounds of the academy once every week and I'll be in charge of teaching you. I'll also arrange a special team for you to do missions with, and once you're ready, I'll send you to take the chunin exam. Understood?"

".... no. I don't want to graduate like Kakashi." he said stubbornly, as he was genuinely frustrated. Losing even one character point was a painful thing to think about and the old man in front of him was adamant on getting him to graduate.

Hiruzen smiled in response and shook his head, "You're not graduating, Kira. You're just changing teachers. Actually, I'm doing this because of Kakeru. He came to me complaining about Benji here, saying that his cute little grandchild was already around the top of genin level and that he didn't want another genin teach you things.

So because your grandfather kept annoying me for days, I had no choice but to take action myself. Do you understand now?"

"Yes. Let's go train then. I don't want to disappoint grandpa." he said, immediately changing his mind, replying with a serious look on his face as he looked up at Hiruzen's smiling face.

As long as he didn't graduate too early, he was content with whatever teacher. Hiruzen teaching personally was just the cherry on top, so why would he reject such a good offer?

'He might be an incompetent hokage, but as a teacher, he was one of the best that anyone could ask for. After all, he trained the legendary sanin and each one of the sanin trained legendary figures later on. Also, if I'm close to Hiruzen, it'll be harder for Danzo to target me.' Kira thought of his safety in the future and felt even more satisfied with the outcome.

Hiruzen stood up from his chair and said, "Alright, go and wait for me in the training grounds. I'll be there in a bit."

He watched Kira leave and once he did, he turned to Benji, "Don't mind what I said just now. You're one of the best teachers that this academy can have. After all, you dug out two hidden gems for Konoha."

His praise didn't mean much and just did the job of keeping Benji's confidence from falling.

Hiruzen and Kira stood in the empty training grounds as they looked at each other.

"First things first, show me everything you can do." Hiruzen said.

Kira nodded and took out a few shuriken, six in total. With each shuriken lodged in between the gaps of his fingers, he threw the shuriken in random directions.

Seeing him do this, made Hiruzen remember his previous student Jiraiya.

'He's goofing around right?' he thought, but just as the shuriken were about to lose their momentum, they multiplied. Each shuriken multiplied into ten shurikens, but since their momentum was already lost, they fell to the ground.

The jutsu wasn't perfected yet.

"I've been practising this recently. I thought this would be really useful compared to throwing just a handful of shuriken." Kira explained as he brought his hands together and one hand sign later, four regular clones popped up.

He did the same thing that he did when he fought against Kakashi a year ago and used substitution jutsu to switch places with one of his clones.

"This is what I used to use before, but now I have a new version."
