Chapter 11 "The Road Ahead and The Fight With Bandits"

Cale's POV

"It doesn't look like you are nervous," Deruth said.

Cale smiled instead of responding to his father's statement. Cale's complexion had gotten much better in the last few days. It had no choice but to get better.

'Since I didn't get beaten to a pulp.'

It was raining in the Henituse territory until yesterday. If the story went as it did in the novel, Cale would have been beaten to a pulp on a rainy day. Of course, Cale was not beaten up yesterday.

He could also sleep well now. This was because he could feel the Indestructible Shield always surrounding his heart. Knowing that he could manage to survive, even if he did something wrong to someone like Ron or Beacrox, made it easier for him to sleep at night.

"Father," Cale looked at the breakfast spread that was fancier than ever before, as he asked.

"It looks like the number of people in the envoy has grown again. I asked you to reduce the number."

He had asked his father to decrease the number of servants accompanying him to help with his needs. He said that Hans and Ron were enough. Of course, Hans turned pale at first; however, he started to pack right away after hearing that the kittens would be traveling with them as well.

"Ah, about that..." For some reason, Deruth stopped his sentence without finishing. At that moment, someone else's voice interjected itself into their conversation.

"That was my decision."

It was the Count's wife, Violan.

Her hair was perfectly formed in a bun, without a single stray hair, as she was looking down at her plate. She looked so similar to her son, Basen. Even the way they both did not make eye contact with Cale and had a stoic expression was the same.

"We can't have someone from our family looking poor and terrible just because you want to go with such a small envoy."

It was an extremely stoic voice. Violan then lifted her gaze to look in Cale's direction before continuing on.

"... I am not saying you are terrible."

"Even I know that much."

Violan hesitated for a moment after hearing Cale's response, before taking another bite of her food and continuing to speak.

"People, especially nobles, care a lot about appearances."

The Countess Violan. Cale quietly watched her.

She was born as the eldest daughter of a poor artist's family and had dreamt about being the head of a merchant guild when she grew up. She was influenced by the luxury items being sold to the nobles and came to the Henituse territory. Once she got here, she fell in love with the art of sculpting. Eventually, she met Count Deruth and fell in love, living as the director for the territory's cultural business operations.

In Cale, no, Kim Rok Soo's opinion, she had a lot of pride for herself and her life, which was why she had a lot of pride for this family as well.

Even though she knew that Cale was silently observing her, she continued on without a single change in her expression.

"Art is not for those human tras- mm." She was a bit of a coarse speaker because she worked in the merchant world for a while.

"Anyways, there are a lot of people who think that appearances reveal everything about a person."

That was her way of telling Cale to take a lot of servants with him. Her goal was for Cale to not be judged negatively just because he only took a few servants with him.

Naturally, Cale wanted to take a lot of people to do his biddings for him as well.

'How nice and relaxing would it be?'

He was finding it difficult to get changed without a servant now. Kim Rok Soo had been in this world as Cale for only about a week, but he already could not let go of that easy life.

However, a few days into Cale's future was a crazy Black Dragon.

If he cannot release this crazy dragon in advance, it might go wild and kill a lot of people. Although Cale didn't care about what happened to other people, he still did not want to see people dying in front of his eyes. Furthermore, he also didn't want to take responsibility for those people who will be injured because of the dragon.

Responsibility was a heavy burden, and for someone like Kim Rok Soo, who had taken responsibility for his own life since he was a young boy, he knew that responsibility related to people and people's lives was the scariest and heaviest burden.

That was why he started to speak.

"Art is the mirror of the soul."

Violan lifted her gaze off of her plate and looked toward Cale. This was the first time in a long while that the two of them had made eye contact with each other.

"...You do know about that."

"Yes. I do know."

Cale had roamed around the entire territory the last four days to prepare the things he needed on this trip. He just recited one of the things he saw on one of those trips.

"Sculpting is not just cutting into a chunk of marble. It is creating a reflection of what is in your heart."

This time, it was Cale who looked at his plate and continued to eat while Violan was watching him.

"I read that on the plaque at the Gallery."

The Gallery in the Henituse territory displayed the works of new sculptors. That statement that was written on the plaque in the Gallery was something that Violan had personally written.

"...Do as you wish. I will reduce the number of people going with you, but, in return, the carriage and everything in it shall be of the highest quality. That is how it should be for us Henituse people."

"That is fine with me. Please give me the most expensive stuff."

"Great. I will make sure you have a carriage that won't even hurt your butt as you travel across bumpy roads."

"Only the best."

Cale could not see it because he was looking at his plate, but there was a slight smile on Violan's face before it disappeared. Count Deruth, who had been watching this from the start, let out a fake cough to cover up his slowly rising smile.

"Cale."

"Yes, father."

"Did you verify the information from Hans regarding the personalities of all the nobles who will be going to the capital?"

Deruth had used his own network, as well as the information guild, to purchase information on the other nobles and had handed it to Hans to give to Cale.

"Yes. It was pretty entertaining."

It was probably difficult to purchase that file. In fact, it probably cost a fortune. Although it only had about three or four lines about each person, it was precious and expensive to purchase information on nobles.

"There are some petty ones, some stupid ones, some smart and scary ones, even some who are desperate for power. Looks like all sorts of people are coming this time."

Of course, there were also some stupidly nice people, villains, and trash as well.

"You read the file I sent you. Ahem. Anyways, do as you please. But Cale."

"Yes, father."

"I heard a strange rumor."

Cale's shoulders flinched just ever so slightly.

"Apparently the man-eating tree, that black tree, has changed. It is now a white tree with beautiful blue leaves. There is even grass growing in that spot where nothing used to grow."

The place that had changed the most in the last four days was none other than the top of the hill in the slums. It was a location where only the black tree had resided; however, that tree turned white with blue leaves after Cale had resolved its grudge, and it was now a beautiful tree that looked almost divine.

"Isn't it an interesting rumor?"

"It is. What an interesting rumor."

Cale had no intentions of revealing his Ancient Power right now, so he simply pretended to have no knowledge of it. There was no way that Count Deruth did not know about the fact that he went to the slums. However, he would not have any knowledge of the Ancient Power. He would just suspect that something happened with Cale and the man-eating tree.

"Yes, but it isn't that big of a deal. However, you need to pay attention to rumors no matter what you do. There is nothing scarier than human eyes and mouths. However, anything that happens inside the territory is fine for members of our household."

"I will keep that in mind."

Cale felt like he really could live a peaceful life, as long as he remained in their territory. How great would it be to quickly come back from the capital and live the life of a couch potato?

The luxurious breakfast that was made for Cale, who was leaving for the capital, finally came to an end. He received goodbyes from the Count and Countess, who couldn't watch him leave because they had work to do, and then made eye contact with his siblings, who were awkwardly standing there.

"What?"

His younger brother, Basen, just shook his head at Cale's question. His younger sister, Lily, slowly approached him. 7 years old. This youngest sibling of his was 11 years apart from him.

"P, please have a safe trip."

"Thanks. You be safe here too."

Lily vigorously nodded her head.

"Yes!"

She then quietly looked at Cale. Cale just casually asked in response to her gaze.

"Should I buy you a present while on my trip?"

"Really?"

'As I thought. She wanted a present.'

Cale nodded his head as he watched the surprised, amazed, and happy expression all taking turns showing up on Lily's face.

"Yes. What would you like?"

Lily opened and closed her hands a few times, before finally speaking

confidence.

"A sword!"

Cale became anxious.

'She has some weird hobbies. Why a sword?'

That was why he just casually responded back.

"Ask our father."

"That's right! I'll ask him for one."

The happy Lily quickly ran away to the Count. Cale looked toward Basen and asked him as well.

"Do you want anything?"

Basen looked shocked at Cale's question and quickly waved his hands.

"No. I do not need anything."

He may have sounded calm and stoic, but Basen was still a 15-year-old boy. The tips of his ears were red. Cale had a gentle expression on his face as he responded.

"Then I will be back."

Cale turned away from his younger brother and walked over to Ron, who was smiling and standing behind him. Next to Ron was Hans, who was standing with a nervous expression on his face. Cale felt that everything was perfect.

"Young master, will you be okay?"

Cale started to frown at Hans's cautious question.

'What is this bastard saying right now?'

Of course, that question had nothing to do with Cale. Cale was the type of person who believed in things that other people would not even consider as real. In fact, he was even willing to take a gamble if it was something that others didn't believe in.

He was someone who lived with his belief in the novel that he read a few years ago.

Hans looked like he wanted to say something else, but Cale ignored him and headed toward the carriage. It was a very fancy carriage with a large comfortable seat. However, Cale couldn't help but be amazed as he headed toward it.

'What the heck is this?'

There was a majestic black wolf, Raven, standing beside the carriage. On Raven's back was Adrian, his eyes scanning the surroundings vigilantly.

Adrian's POV

His injuries from the previous day throbbed dully, a constant reminder of the dangers that lurked outside the safety of the estate. Pushing himself up, he swung his legs over the edge of the bed and took a moment to collect his thoughts.

The conversation with Cale and Choi Han from the night before lingered in his mind, a weighty reminder of the task ahead. He knew that today marked the beginning of a new chapter in their journey, one that would test their resolve and strength like never before.

With a resigned sigh, Adrian pushed himself to his feet and began to dress, moving carefully to avoid aggravating his injuries. Despite the pain, he was determined to play his part in their mission. After all, he had come too far to back down now.

As he made his way downstairs, the sounds of activity greeted him, signaling that preparations for the journey were already underway. Servants bustled about, loading supplies onto the carriage, while Hans supervised with his usual efficiency.

Spotting Choi Han off to one side, Adrian approached him, a sense of camaraderie forming between them. "Morning," he greeted, his voice tinged with fatigue.

Choi Han glanced up from where he was sharpening his sword, his expression unreadable. "Morning," he replied curtly, his attention returning to his task.

Undeterred, Adrian pressed on, eager to lend a hand wherever he could. "Need any help with that?" he offered, gesturing to the sword.

Choi Han hesitated for a moment before nodding. "If you insist," he conceded, handing Adrian the whetstone.

As Adrian set to work, he couldn't help but feel a sense of kinship with Choi Han. Despite their differences, they shared a common goal: to protect those they cared about. It was a bond that Adrian found comforting in the face of the unknown.

Their brief interaction was interrupted by the sound of footsteps, and Adrian looked up to see Cale approaching, his expression resolute. "Is everything set?" he asked, his voice carrying the weight of their impending journey.

Adrian nodded, handing the sword back to Choi Han. "We're ready to go," he confirmed, his own determination shining through.

Adrian approached Hans, who was overseeing the preparations with a watchful eye. "Excuse me, Hans," he said, his voice tinged with urgency. "Do you know where Raven is? I need to get him ready before we leave."

Hans glanced up from his task, his brow furrowing slightly. "Ah, Raven is likely in the stable, resting before the journey," he replied, his tone calm but focused. "I'll send someone to fetch him for you."

Adrian nodded gratefully, his mind already racing ahead to the tasks that lay ahead. "Thank you, Hans. I will go find him myself."

He made his way to the stables, finding Raven easily. The majestic black wolf stood out, even among the other impressive mounts. Adrian approached him, giving the loyal companion a reassuring pat. "Hey, old friend," he murmured, "we've got quite a journey ahead."

Adrian quickly began to prepare Raven for the journey, securing the saddle and saddlebags. As he finished, he realized he had some time to kill. He decided to consult the system for advice.

"Hey, Alex, do you have any suggestions for things that I can put in Raven's saddlebag?"

"Hey there! Absolutely, here are some suggestions for items to stash in Raven's saddlebag, perfect for your adventurous journey:

With these items at your disposal, Raven's saddlebag will be well-equipped for your adventures, ready to face whatever trials and tribulations come your way!" Alex said.

"Thanks, Alex," Adrian said with a grateful smile as he glanced over the supplies laid out before him. "Let's get these packed up."

As he began loading the saddlebags, someone approached Adrian, a sense of urgency in their voice. "Adrian, it's time to leave," they informed him.

Adrian looked up, his expression determined. "Right, let's finish up here and get going."

With swift movements, Adrian secured the last of the supplies in Raven's saddlebags. He then turned to Raven, who was waiting patiently nearby. "Ready to go, old friend?" he asked, patting the wolf's side affectionately.

Raven responded with a low rumble, nudging Adrian gently with his nose. Adrian chuckled and swung himself onto Raven's back, settling into the familiar saddle.

As they prepared to depart, Adrian spotted Cale and Choi Han approaching. "Looks like we've got some company," he remarked with a grin.

Choi Han nodded in greeting as they drew nearer. "Ready to hit the road?" he asked, a hint of excitement in his voice.

Adrian nodded, his anticipation growing. "Absolutely. Let's make some progress today," he replied, his gaze sweeping over their small group.

I watched cale get into the carriage and see the Vice Captain walk over

"Young master, shall we leave now?"

The Vice Captain asked Cale, and Cale closed the carriage door as he answered.

"Yes. Let's go."

15 soldiers, 5 knights, and one special guard. Cale's envoy, which consisted of this protection squad and then some other people, finally started to head toward the capital.

Of course, as with most fantasy world travels, it was not a very uneventful trip.

Raven stayed a little bit behind the carriage

Adrian know what is gonna happen and was well prepared for the attack that was bound to happen.

Nobody dared to touch Cale's carriage in the Henituse territory. The carriage did not have the flag that represented the family, but the carriage itself had the Golden Turtle, the symbol of the Henituse family, drawn on it. It was representative of the Henituse family's love for wealth and longevity.

However, as soon as they left the Henituse territory, they ran into a situation.

'As expected, they really do show up.' Adrian thought

While they raced through the mountain range, Adrian rode proudly on Raven, his wolf mount, trailing a short distance behind the carriage. Suddenly, a horde of bandits emerged in the valley, demanding payment or threatening violence. Adrian's senses sharpened, and he gripped Raven's reins tighter, ready for action alongside his comrades.

As Cale exchanged words with the kitten On about the bandits, Adrian's gaze flicked towards the commotion, his muscles tensing in anticipation. He nodded in agreement with Cale's assessment, his mind focused on the impending confrontation.

When Ron announced the need for a break due to an abundance of rabbits, Adrian's keen eyes scanned the surroundings for any signs of danger. He remained vigilant, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

Adrian's attention shifted to Choi Han, With a determined nod, Adrian silently pledged his support, ready to assist his companion in battle.

When the atmosphere around the knights grew tense, Adrian's instincts kicked in, and he rushed in to help Choi Han without hesitation. With Raven by his side, Adrian fought alongside his companions, his loyalty unwavering in the face of danger.

As the bandits surged forward, Adrian's heart pounded with a mix of fear and excitement. He tightened his grip on the Eclipsing Blade, feeling its strange, almost sentient energy course through his hands. The blade, forged from a rare, dark metal that absorbed light, seemed to resonate with his nervous anticipation.

Choi Han stood beside him, calm and composed, his eyes scanning the incoming wave of bandits with a practiced ease. "Stay close and follow my lead," he instructed, his voice steady. Adrian nodded, swallowing hard. This was his first real fight, and he could only rely on the sword techniques he had absorbed from two books since his reincarnation into this world.

The bandits, confident in their numbers, charged with a cacophony of shouts and the clanging of weapons. Choi Han was the first to move, a blur of motion as he dashed forward, his sword slicing through the air with lethal precision. Adrian took a deep breath and followed, the Eclipsing Blade feeling both foreign and familiar in his grasp.

The first bandit lunged at Adrian, a wicked grin on his face. Adrian's movements were awkward, a crude imitation of the elegant forms he had studied. He swung the Eclipsing Blade in a wide arc, its shadowy edge catching the bandit off guard. The blade cut through flesh and bone with shocking ease, the dark metal absorbing the light around it.

Stunned by his own success, Adrian barely had time to react as another bandit attacked from his left. He instinctively raised the Eclipsing Blade to parry, the force of the blow sending vibrations up his arm. Gritting his teeth, he pushed back, the sword's enchantment granting him the strength to hold his ground.

Nearby, Choi Han moved with deadly grace, dispatching bandits with ruthless efficiency. Adrian tried to mimic his fluid motions, his own attacks becoming more precise as he gained confidence. He sidestepped a clumsy strike from a burly bandit, countering with a swift slash that left his opponent reeling.

A mounted figure approached rapidly from behind the carriage – it was Adrian's companion, riding Raven, his loyal wolf mount. Raven leaped into the fray, his powerful jaws and swift movements adding to the chaos. Adrian and Choi Han fought back-to-back, their synergy growing with each passing second.

Despite his inexperience, Adrian's raw determination and the Eclipsing Blade's unique abilities made him a formidable opponent. The blade not only cut through the bandits but seemed to siphon their energy, invigorating Adrian with each successful strike. He felt a strange connection to the weapon, as if it were guiding his hand and lending him strength.

As the last of the bandits fell, Adrian stood panting, the adrenaline still coursing through his veins. He looked around at the fallen foes, then at Choi Han, who gave him an approving nod. Raven padded over, nuzzling Adrian's leg in a rare moment of affection.

"You did well for your first fight," Choi Han said, a hint of a smile on his usually stoic face.

Adrian nodded, a mixture of relief and pride swelling within him. This battle had been a trial by fire, but he had proven himself. With the Eclipsing Blade in hand and his newfound resolve, he was ready to face whatever challenges this world had in store for him.

And as the dust settled and the last of their foes fell, Adrian and Choi Han stood victorious, their bond forged in battle stronger than ever before. With a nod of mutual respect, they turned to face their next challenge, ready to continue their journey side by side.

Adrian gets back on raven back ready to find a good place camp.
