"Good morning, Indigo, my love! Your shift is over so I came to get you!" Sanji said enthusiastically as he burst into the room.
"Good morning, Cariño!" you said, smiling at him.
You were sitting on the bench with your legs folded, using them as a table and writing in your journal. Zoro was passed out on the bench next to you, snoring softly, one hand holding your foot. He had fallen asleep minutes after your conversation.
"I made you breakfast. Where would you like to eat?" he asked with a sweet smile on his face.
"I'll come hang out in the kitchen with you and eat it. If that's okay?"
"You don't have to ask, my sweet Princess. Your wish is my command," he said happily.
"Be with you in a sec," you told him, and closed your journal. You leaned over Zoro's sleeping face and whispered, "Hey, I'm heading out. Thanks for keeping me company."
Without opening his eye, his hand released your foot and grabbed the back of your neck, pulling you in for a kiss.
"Make sure to get some sleep," he mumbled, folding his arms behind his head and dozing off again.
You grabbed your journal and your boots and headed down the ladder with Sanji.
___________
You sat at the counter, finishing up the breakfast Sanji had made for you, while watching him cook for the rest of the crew.
"That was amazing, Sanji. Thanks so much!" you said, wiping your mouth.
"Anything for you, Princess!" he exclaimed giddily.
"You don't have to call me Princess, you know?" you giggled.
"You don't like it?"
"It's not that," you replied. "The Counsel and the Seven, we've gotten used to people calling us by royal titles, but we don't consider ourselves royals. It's sweet when people call us 'Queen' and 'Princess,' and we do like it, but it's not how we identify ourselves. Plus, I kinda like the other name you call me more."
"My Angel?" he inquired.
"Yeah," you said with a slight blush.
"Really, why?"
You heard the invasive thought ringing in the back of your mind.
"You think you're above me? Let me remind you where you stand, Devil Bitch."
You looked at Sanji's gentle eyes, realizing you'd never be able to fully express to him the effect they had on you, how you could feel his warmth, and how it almost made you cry more than once.
"It's kind," you said, smiling at him. His eyes widened at your words. "Thank you for being you, Sweet Sanji."
There it was, that sadness again. 'Why was this beautiful man so broken?' The door to the kitchen opened, and Robin and Nami walked in, Sanji's mood immediately improved. You turned, smiling at them both.
"Good morning, Nami-swan! Good morning, Robin, my love!" he beamed at the two ladies. "Breakfast is ready; I'll bring your plates right over!"
He flitted around the kitchen as they greeted you both, and you reciprocated. His doting on the women of the crew was something you found adorable. Sweet Sanji, after all.
"How was your shift?" Nami asked, sitting at the table.
"It was pretty quiet. The seas were calm, and I got some journaling done," you replied.
"Here you go, ladies!" Sanji said happily, setting their plates and drinks down in front of them, then looking back at you. "Can I get you anything, Indigo, my Angel?"
"Thank you, Sanji. I'm gonna shower and get some sleep, though," you said, standing up, grabbing your things, and heading towards the door.
"Would you like us to wake you up if we dock at a new island?" Robin asked.
"Yes, please," you said, smiling at her.
She and Nami reminded you of your sisters in the Seven; you had missed that feeling and were so grateful for their friendship. They had embraced you right from the start, just as happy to have another woman around.
"I'll leave some water in your room for you, Indigo, my sweet!" Sanji said to you with hearts pumping in his eyes.
"That would be awesome. Thank you, Blue-Eyes," you said to him, heading to your room to fetch your things and wash up.
___________
You stepped into the women's quarters after a hot shower and found Sanji placing a pitcher of water and an empty glass on the table next to your bed. He was still without his suit jacket, shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
"Do you always have to look this good?" you said, hanging up your towel.
"I, uh…" he stammered.
"Thanks for the water, Handsome."
"Of course, my Angel! Can I get you anything else?" he asked, waiting for your request.
"Yes," you said, sitting on your bed.
"What would you like?"
"You. Come lay down with me, Sanji. Hold me until I fall asleep," you said, your hand reaching for his. "I won't keep you long."
Without hesitation, he kicked off his shoes.
"Take off the shirt too. I want to feel your skin," you said to him as you took yours off.
"How are you real?" he said, taking off his shirt and staring at you as you sat on your bed in just a pair of black boy shorts.
"I'm not. I'm a fairytale, remember?" you said, smiling softly as you laid down on your side, your arms outstretched towards him, holding your blanket open.
He climbed into the bed, and you nuzzled into his chest as you wrapped around each other. You took in the scent of his cologne and rubbed his back gently, feeling his muscles react to your touch. He planted light kisses on your head while he hugged you close, and you drifted off happily, wrapped in his warmth.
___________
"You have to wake up, Sweetheart. You're not safe."
"Ace!" You bolted upright, searching the room for him.
When you saw where you were, the reality dawned on you. There was a part of you that hoped he was still alive, that he had survived the events at Marineford and was somewhere out there with Izo and Marco. The logical part of you knew the truth. You pulled your legs to your chest as tears threatened to fall. Lifting your right hand, you produced a small flame, watching it dance between your fingers. You remembered how it felt the first time you touched his hand after gaining his abilities, how the flames from both of your palms merged into one, dancing together, and the smile on his face when he looked at you. Now this was all you had left. This… and the memories.
You exhaled deeply, snapping out of your reminiscent thoughts when you saw your breath. You realized how drastically the temperature had dropped from earlier. It was freezing. Scanning the room for something warm to put on, you threw on your boots and grabbed your coat. Stepping out onto the deck, you expected to see the crew, but what you saw made you worry. A group of people in weird yellow suits lay unconscious on the deck, and your crew was nowhere to be found. Looking around, you saw that you were surrounded by ice. 'What the fuck happened? How long was I asleep?' you thought as you continued to look around for any sign of where your friends went.
"There you are, Sunny!" Franky's voice rang out above you.
Looking up, you saw him floating towards the ship with strange colored smoke around him.
"Is that… coming out of his butt?" You questioned watching in confusion as he descended onto the ship, you wrinkled your nose, now sure where the smoke was coming from. "Is that what happened to these guys?" you said to the cyborg as you motioned towards the unconscious group behind you.
"Indigo! We were all wondering where you were, everyone was worried about you! Have you been on the ship the whole time?"
"Yeah, I just woke up."
Suddenly, you both heard an explosion. Looking towards it, you saw a giant cloud of purple smoke rising over the frozen mountains.
"What the heck is that?!" you said, shocked.
"I'll explain on the way. You should take one of those yellow suits those guys are wearing," he said, grabbing the helm. "Let's go, Sunny!"
___________
Having escaped the fog, Franky told you what happened while you helped him fetch the Mini-Merry and bring the Sunny around to the cold side of the island again. You put on one of the yellow suits and made sure it was functional. Franky explained that it would help protect you against the gas. He asked you to stay with the ship while he took the General Franky and went to see about the tanker you passed when you docked.
'He's a cyborg inside of a robot now? That's kinda sick!' You thought excitedly as you moved the last of the unconscious people off the ship.
You saw the gas start to clear away and looked over towards the tanker where Franky had gone. Your eyes widened in shock as you saw the symbol on it. You'd recognize it anywhere; it was burned into your memory. Before you could begin to process what you saw, you sensed someone nearby. Looking in their direction, you saw two people in the distance flying towards the island, with the one in yellow acting as their aircraft.
'All the studying and research I've done on Devil Fruits, and I'm still surprised by the stupid ways some of these powers work. 'Cause what the fuck is that?'
"GENERAL LEFT!!"
"FRANKY!" You yelled as you saw him fire a stream of bullets at the two people in the sky.
"I'VE GOT THIS, INDIGO! YOU PROTECT THE SUNNY!"
"GOT IT!"
You took off the yellow suit and stood guard as you watched the fight between Franky, Airplane Man, and Gun Girl, both of them seemingly too distracted to notice you standing on the ship not too far away. Nor did they seem interested in the Sunny for that matter. You wanted to get in on the action, but you respected the cyborg's request. Plus, he didn't seem to need you, and you were enjoying the spectacle.
"The working… title… is.. GENERAL CANNON!!"
'Oop! That looked like it hurt!'
You watched as the two got up and continued arguing with Franky, a pretty beat-up looking guy laid between them. You felt a surge of excitement; Luffy and the rest of the crew were nearby. You watched as they came barreling through on some kind of giant cart, jam-packed with people. Shock splayed across your face as you scanned the group. This day was getting stranger by the second, and you hadn't even been awake that long.
'Giant kids? Centaurs? A pink dragon? And the fucking G-5? How?! And who's the guy in the puffy hat?' There was so much going on. The two people who were fighting with Franky snatched up the guy with the crunched-up nose and flew off. Usopp pulled out a black slingshot, and you saw a little piranha plant hanging in the middle; he lowered it to the ground, and it started eating all the debris around it. Next, Nami whipped out a blue baton and shot an egg into the sky.
'Y ese huevo?' It hatched into a massive storm cloud and struck the trio with a giant bolt of lightning. You watched as Usopp took aim and shot the pile of debris at them. Their combined effort sent the three strangers pummeling towards the sea. Everyone cheered, and you felt a swell of pride for your crewmates.
You threw on your hood. None of the Marines looked familiar, and you didn't have a bounty, so hopefully, no one would recognize you. You walked off the ship towards the crowd below, staying on the "pirate side" of the line. You weren't in the mood to make nice with the Navy.
"Indigo!" Luffy said, wrapping his limbs around you and hugging you tight. "You missed the fight!"
"Hey, Luffy! I know," you said, hugging him back. "I slept through the whole thing."
You shared a laugh with your Captain before something else caught his attention, and he scurried off. You moved around the crowd when you noticed a pissed-off looking Marine with two cigars in his mouth as you approached Robin and Franky.
"Who's the mean guy?" You asked.
"That's Vice-Admiral Smoker, commander of the G-5," Robin informed you.
"And he's just… cool with this situation?" You inquired.
"Oh, he's not. Hence the sourpuss," Franky replied. The three of you laughed.
___________
Back aboard the Sunny, you had set sail with a few extra passengers: a nine-foot-tall Samurai named Kin'emon, his son Momonosuke, who happened to be the little pink dragon you saw earlier, and the guy in the puffy hat, who you now knew as Trafalgar Law, Captain of the Heart Pirates. You half-listened as everyone chatted about this and that.
"Nami, what's the next stop you have charted?" Luffy asked, jumping on the Sunny's figurehead.
"Oh! Give me a second here," she responded, looking at the log pose on her wrist.
"I've set the course. There won't be any stops," Law said to everyone. "Straight to Dressrosa."
'Dressrosa?!'
"You're a long way from home now, Demon Princess. This is MY KINGDOM!"
The heat started to build in your blood.
"Here's something I've been wondering," Robin said to Law. "I saw you talking to someone on the transponder snail earlier. Why don't you tell us who it was?"
"It was Doflamingo," he replied.
You clenched your jaw at the sound of his name.
"You'll never see your island again. You'll die in Dressrosa."
You took a deep breath and calmed yourself. You needed to hear whatever information was about to be shared.
"The plan's in action. So there's no backing out," Law said to Usopp.
"What plan? Wanna fill us in?" Zoro asked.
"Yeah, let's tell 'em about the plan," Luffy said excitedly. "GATHER ROUND EVERYBODY!"
"YOU FORMED AN ALLIANCE TO KILL ONE OF THE FOUR EMPERORS?!" a few of your crewmates shouted in unison.
You listened intently as Law explained the whole plan and how it would result in the takedown of Kaido. There was one part that really interested you though, and you walked over to the man with the broken nose, who was now being held captive by the allied Captains.
"Are you the one that produces the sedatives Doflamingo distributes?" you asked him, your tone serious and your expression unyielding.
"Shirororororo! I remember you!" the man said in a tone that made your skin crawl.
"I bet you do," you said calmly.
"You were one of my toughest challenges yet, and there's never been another like you. Five foot four, with the ability to resist the strongest sedatives I could create and in doses that could put an entire town to sleep for days!" he said to you. "The amount that knocked you lot out so easily was nothing to your little curvy friend here. I watched her strangle a man to death after five of those barrels."
A smile made of pure evil grew across your face, and you put your hand on his shoulder.
"That's all I needed to hear," you said, tightening your grip in a snap.
The man let out a blood-curdling howl as you crushed his shoulder. You turned and walked towards the back of the ship, leaving him to scream and writhe in pain.
"Next stop, Dressrosa," you said, the words 'Devil Bitch' plastered across your smile.
