Ch.138 Devourer’s Spirit

There was no helping it—Growlithe was a dog, not a cat-like liquid creature. In the end, it took both Inumaki Toge and Akira pulling from either side to drag it out by the hind legs.

"Big mustard? (Are you okay?)" Inumaki asked with concern.

Growlithe, ever the optimist, shook its head vigorously and barked as it sprinted ahead.

"Did it catch a scent?"

Okkotsu Yuta's face lit up with hope. Rika, ever impatient, floated after it.

After about a minute of running, Growlithe stopped not far from Jujutsu High's back gate, furiously digging with its small paws.

The message was clear—it was beneath the ground.

Digging holes was instinct for dogs, but Growlithe's size limited its efficiency. After dozens of scrapes, it had barely dug a shallow hole.

"Doggo, step aside, let me handle this," Cursed Spirit Rika said impatiently, raising her claw.

Before she could unleash her full power, Gardevoir flashed in front of her, shaking its head.

"Garde~ Garde~"

"She's worried you'll use too much force and harm the child below," Akira dutifully translated.

Even without using Sabrina's telepathy or Wataru's mind-reading, Akira could understand everything Gardevoir said.

Even Kalos Champion Diantha might not surpass Akira in bonding with Gardevoir.

"Then what do we do?" Rika puffed her cheeks in frustration.

"Garde~"

With a wave of Gardevoir's hand, shadows swirled across the ground. From within emerged Darkrai.

"Gardevoir~"

Darkrai let out a sound, then sank into the shadows. Moments later, it resurfaced and gestured with its claws towards Gardevoir.

"Garde!"

Psychic energy swept across the land.

Starting from the small hole Growlithe had dug, cubic sections of earth began lifting as Gardevoir's power reached deeper underground.

On the fourth excavation, a gray-green, horn-like object poked through the soil, soon revealing an entire head.

Interestingly, the head didn't emerge voluntarily. The receding soil forced it out.

The reason? It was eating.

Yes, eating. The wide mouth below the dull horn constantly opened and closed, devouring the surrounding soil at an incredible pace.

As the nearby dirt was consumed, the dinosaur-like creature shifted its body to continue feeding elsewhere.

At last, the mystery of the missing egg was solved.

This Pokémon thrived on soil. Upon hatching underground, it discovered the surrounding dirt was edible and eagerly started feasting through the night.

In its hunger, it unwittingly tunneled beneath the surface, earning the title of the devourer's paragon.

Only when Gardevoir's floating dirt blocks were consumed and Psychic barriers prevented further movement did it blink, gazing at the group below. It let out a cry reminiscent of an Indian politician's name:

"Yogi?"

"Akira, what Pokémon is this?" Yuta asked.

"Larvitar. It's got a voracious appetite and won't stop eating… specifically, dirt. It won't rest until it consumes an entire mountain."

"A-a whole mountain?" Yuta was stunned.

"Larvitar is amazing!"

Rika beamed, lifting Larvitar from Gardevoir's psychic hold.

"Yogi!"

True to its name, Larvitar immediately bit into Rika's arm. Fortunately, it was too small to make much impact.

"A healthy appetite is a blessing," Akira said, patting Larvitar's head. "When it eats through a whole mountain, you'll see how strong it is. At this rate, that day won't be far off."

In the Pokémon world, the rarest and most powerful are known as Legendary or Mythical Pokémon.

Below them is a special tier—Pseudo-Legendary. Larvitar's final form, Tyranitar, belongs to this exclusive group.

Except for Gen 3, each generation features only one Pseudo-Legendary, making them rarer than actual Legendaries.

In the Pokémon universe, they are synonymous with power, often appearing as champions or Elite Four aces. As Yuta and Rika's partner, Larvitar fit the role perfectly.

Another notable trait of Pseudo-Legendaries is their typing.

Of the eight Pseudo-Legendaries, six share a common trait—Dragon typing. Until Fairy types emerged, Dragons reigned supreme.

Interestingly, Larvitar's line is one of only two Pseudo-Legendaries without Dragon typing.

Despite its dinosaur-like appearance, Larvitar is classified as Rock/Ground, with no connection to dragons whatsoever. Its diet of common soil makes it one of the easiest to raise.

"Alright, eat up and grow strong," Rika said cheerfully, placing Larvitar onto another dirt mound.

"We'll play together when you grow up."

"Yogi~"

Larvitar glanced at Rika before diving back into the soil, resuming its feast.

Watching Larvitar's intense devotion to eating, Yuta sighed. "Inumaki, I'll be counting on you in the future."

Given Larvitar's habits, they'd frequently need to dig it up, ensuring it didn't accidentally wander beyond school grounds.

"Salmon."

"Woof~"

Inumaki and Growlithe responded in sync, a seamless duo that left Yuta feeling envious.

Power and potential didn't matter much to him—he already had Rika. What he truly desired was the camaraderie shared by Inumaki, Growlithe, Hayami, and Alolan Vulpix.

Nonetheless, with Larvitar chosen, Yuta had no complaints. He would raise it properly.

"Rika, let's go."

"Where to?"

"To take on missions. I need to buy a mountain."

Yuta's words were resolute.

Even if Larvitar ate dirt, the sheer volume required meant high costs.

Unlike Akira, who might tap public resources, Yuta intended to earn the funds himself. To him, every bit of soil belonged somewhere.

It was proof of his pure-hearted nature. Pokémon world villains might find salvation meeting someone like him.

With that, the morning commotion ended. But the stories sparked by the newborn Pokémon had only just begun.

Just as Yuuta had left, Gojo Satoru arrived, proudly carrying a Voltorb on his head and laughing arrogantly: "Hahahaha, listen to me, listen to me! My egg hatched into a ball, and Megumi's egg also hatched into a ball. As expected of my kids!"
