Michael paused when he reached the door to his office, his hand on the doorknob but his eyes were aimed elsewhere at the other door further down the hallway. After a moment of indecision, he shifted away from his own door and went to the other one. Even though he knew it was going to be locked shut, the way it had been yesterday, he just had to check to be certain.
This was the second time he had come in to work, only to find the door to Olivia's office locked. At first he had assumed that she had taken a sick day or something similar, but when he had tried to call her phone the previous day, none of his calls went through. Now today, on his way up to their shared office floor, he had been told by the receptionist that Olivia had never shown up this morning, nor did she call in on the company since then.
