Could this old woman really be a witch?

Rod narrowed his eyes at the bubbling concoction. "What exactly is in there?"

"Wolf-killing potion!" the grandmother mumbled in a crazed tone, her voice unstable.

Annie, clearly used to her grandmother's behavior, didn't take her words seriously. She walked over and gently pleaded, "Grandma, there are so many wolves in the forest now. You should come back to the village with me."

"I can't leave! My potion created the wolves, and only my potion can kill them!" the grandmother insisted, continuing to stir the cauldron. Her erratic manner made her seem like a lunatic.

"You know where the wolves are?" Rod asked, sensing that the old woman might actually know something useful.

"Come nightfall, the wolves will appear." the crazed grandmother glanced at him, her expression suddenly seeming more lucid for a moment. But just as quickly, she reverted to her wild demeanor.

"Grandma." Annie stomped her foot, exasperated.

Rod looked at the sky, making up his mind. "I'll stay here for the night. If the wolves don't show up by dawn, we'll take your grandmother back to town."

Annie hesitated, then reluctantly agreed. "Alright, just one night."

As night quietly descended, the last rays of sunlight faded from the sky. From deep within the forest came the chilling sound of a wolf's howl.

"Rustle... rustle…"

Inside the small cabin, Rod's eyes flickered with surprise. "So they really came."

Peering through the window, he saw gray wolves emerging from the darkness, slowly approaching the cabin. Among them, he recognized the strange wolf he had seen earlier. It stood tall and proud at the center of the pack, like a king, its crimson eyes filled with a murderous aura.

"Awooo!"

The wolf leader let out a deafening roar, and the pack surged forward, charging toward the cabin.

"Hehehe! Let's see how my new wolf-killer potion works." The crazed grandmother cackled as she pulled out a vial of purple liquid and tossed it into the midst of the wolf pack.

Poof!

The moment the vial hit the ground, a thick purple mist spread through the air.

Caught in the fog, the wolves collapsed one by one, howling in agony. They clawed madly at their own fur and flesh, as though trying to tear themselves apart.

As their fur and skin fell away, their bodies began to undergo a grotesque transformation.

Gradually, all the wolves turned into human beings.

"Uncle Butcher... the adventurers..." Annie murmured, naming them one by one, her eyes wide with shock.

Why had these wolves suddenly transformed into humans?

The purple mist spread further, covering a small section of the forest. All the gray wolves had become human, save for the wolf leader, whose savage gaze remained locked on them.

"The potion is still too weak. It can only cure the wolves that have been infected for the second time," the grandmother muttered, her voice now unusually calm.

A sliver of moonlight broke through the trees.

Under the pale moonlight, the wolf leader suddenly stood upright, howling toward the sky. Its fur-covered body began to shift, slowly morphing into a human shape—a werewolf, standing with the body of a man and the head of a wolf.

"Uncle Hunter?" Annie's voice was filled with disbelief.

Though the werewolf's face was still covered in fur, she could faintly make out familiar features beneath it.

"I originally intended to brew a potion that would make mushrooms grow faster," the grandmother explained with a heavy sigh, "but I made a mistake with one of the ingredients. That mistake turned Andrew into this..."

"During the day, he can retain some of his humanity, but at night, the beast within him takes over, turning him into a werewolf," she continued, her voice filled with regret.

"Normally, it's manageable, but tonight is a full moon," the old woman added, just as the werewolf appeared before them like a specter.

Before Rod could make a move, an immense and terrifying burst of magical energy erupted from beside him.

But it wasn't coming from the mad grandmother.

Rod turned his gaze to Annie, who had suddenly fainted, her unconscious body now floating in midair.

His eyes sparkled with amusement.

Things were getting more and more interesting.
