Chapter 29. Life Is Fleeting...But Pain Is Eternal.

Boom!

The blazing sun burst in the sky.

The intense flames drove away the darkness, bathing the entire world in light once more.

Rod, wielding the divine axe in one hand, appeared under the towering tentacles with the flames erupting around his feet.

The Evil God's grotesque eyes, embedded in its writhing tentacles, immediately fixated on this audacious human.

Every single eye turned toward Rod simultaneously.

Feeling the weight of thousands of menacing eyes, Rod simply shrugged his shoulders.

"Time's running short, so... I'll have to finish this quickly."

Rod tightened his grip on the divine axe, and the limitless power of the sun surged into the weapon with unrelenting force.

The blazing heat raised the surrounding temperature by thousands of degrees in an instant, causing the very air to shimmer and distort under the immense pressure.

Sensing the overwhelming threat, the monstrous eyes on the tentacles dilated in alarm. The colossal limbs came crashing down, shattering the space they touched like a fragile mirror, leaving web-like cracks in the void.

"The Merciless Sun."

With a low growl, a massive sun began to form at the blade of Rhitta.

It collided violently with the tentacle.

In the heart of the clash, blinding light devoured everything.

The explosion of the sun's power dispersed the clouds, leaving the sky clear.

When the dust finally settled, Rod stood bare-chested, unharmed. The terrifying impact of the clash was neutralized by the power of the Law of Love, shielding him from all malicious attacks.

The same couldn't be said for his opponent.

High above, the tentacles riddled with eyes had been half-incinerated by the intense heat. Foul-smelling fluids dripped and evaporated from the wounds, warping the already fragile fabric of space around them.

After just a brief exchange, the advantage was clearly Rod's.

"Let's add a little more pain, shall we?"

Magic!

Disaster!

A silvery mist of disaster magic enveloped the evil god's limbs, accelerating the corruption of its already seared flesh.

Huge sections of the skin began to rot, black pus oozed from the festering wounds, and the once-wild eyes on the tentacles were now clouded and half-shut. The entire appendage turned a sickly gray.

This decay was rapidly spreading towards the evil god's core.

Boom!

The injury sent the creature into a frenzy. The vortex in the sky trembled violently, and more enormous tentacles covered in suckers and eyes erupted from the black hole, seeking to tear the gap in space even wider.

Through the rupture, Rod could vaguely make out the hulking, tentacle-covered form of the evil god, stretching over a kilometer in size, preparing to cross into this world.

Its gigantic, single eye was brimming with a twisted blend of agony and ecstasy.

"Pleasure is fleeting, but pain... pain is eternal!"

"Praise the great Lord of Agony!"

The demonic chant pounded relentlessly into Rod' mind, like the fervent preaching of thousands of devoted believers echoing in his ears.

Of course, Rod only sneered at this spiritual attack.

Who did they think they were dealing with?

He was the king who commanded the sun's power, the living incarnation of the sun itself.

What god in this world could ever claim him weak?

Even if the God of Glory descended upon the earth, Rod would blow his brains out.

"A mere demigod dares speak of eternity?"

Rod' muscles surged and expanded, pushing the limits of his body. The overwhelming power of the sun crackled at the edge of the divine axe, Rhitta. Even the mighty artifact struggled to contain such terrifying energy.

As his skin split from the strain, radiant sunlight coursed through his veins. In the next moment, his body rapidly healed, thanks to the rejuvenating power of the Fountain of Life.

"The immortal body paired with the sun's magic... a match made in heaven."

Rod couldn't help but admire the synergy.

The powerful regenerative abilities of his immortal body allowed him to wield his immense strength without restraint.

If he were a normal human, his body would have been torn apart from the backlash of such a powerful force.

However, even with this terrifying strength, it still wasn't enough to crush this foe in one blow.

If it had been any ordinary demigod, that might have been the case. But this creature came from the depths of the Abyss—an Evil God.

Its vitality was absurdly resilient.

What would have killed an ordinary demigod only left this one severely injured.

Rod' free hand slowly extended.

Magic!

Plunder!

Boom!

The magic surged violently. If a legendary mage's magic was akin to a gentle stream, then the power coursing through this evil god was like a boundless ocean—limitless in scale.

Insane, indescribable thoughts flooded Rod' mind as he wrestled with the overwhelming force of the Abyss. It took every ounce of his willpower to prevent himself from being consumed.

Abyssal energy—twisted and chaotic—was the essence of the evil god's power. While such energy was natural to creatures of the Abyss, it was fatal to ordinary beings.

If not for the grace of the sun, both his body and soul would have been polluted beyond repair.

"...This is pushing it a bit too far," Rod muttered.

He glanced down at his arm. His skin was cracking, splitting inch by inch, as the uncontrollable energy threatened to break free.

Having just grown accustomed to the extreme power of the sun, Rod now had another equally potent force surging within him: the power of the evil god.

The fact that he hadn't exploded from this clash of energies was a testament to his sheer strength.

Strength so immense that even forces capable of wounding or killing gods couldn't snuff him out.

The two forces converged in the axe, transforming into a sun as black as ink.

And with a final swing, Rod hurled the dark sun into the black hole.

In eerie silence, everything around the sun was annihilated, collapsing in on itself.

Hundreds of writhing tentacles touched the dark light and, in an instant, were wiped from existence, as if erased by an unseen hand.

The evil god's crazed roars echoed through the void as its form gradually dissolved into nothingness.

"A strike capable of making gods fall!"

"Fallen Sun!"

Rod let his arms drop limply, his body returning to its normal size. He looked up at the sky, now clear as the midday sun slipped unnoticed toward the horizon.

He had fallen from the state of being the only force between heaven and earth.

Though he still held the power to rival gods, the strength to outright slay them was currently beyond his reach.

But, his mission had been accomplished.

"I thought I would just drive them away, but I didn't expect to kill them."

Rod chuckled, somewhat helplessly.

From the start to the end of the battle, it had taken him less than three blows to end the evil god's life.

Not more, not less—exactly one minute.

It wasn't that the evil god was too weak; it was that Rod was far too strong.

With the immortal body, the power of plunder, and the magic of the sun combined, he already possessed enough strength to severely wound, if not kill, gods.

And if the sun had been at its peak at noon...

He would have been capable of slaying gods outright.
