RAIN
"Are you okay?"
No, I am far from okay.
I am watching my mother sleeping on my couch, out like the dead and I am left awake, confused, and with more questions.
"I don't know why I invited her," I say instead. Liam hugs me from the back, a soft kiss on my neck before exhaling deeply.
"It's okay not to know everything sometimes."
"She could have said no and gone to a hotel."
"But she didn't. She took your offer."
I turn to him, frowning. "Why do you think she did that?"
His eyes fleet to the sleeping woman on the couch. "She wanted to be closer to you?"
I rub my eyes tiredly. "She has come into my life and made everything a jumbled mess."
"Hey," Liam takes my hands and peering at me. "Don't beat yourself over this. Do you want some hot chocolate?"
I nod, and he leads me to the kitchen, where he makes me a cup. I sit on the kitchen floor, my back on the cabinet, as I watch him move about.
