Chapter 17: Ghost of the Past

Chloe's Point of View

I stared at my phone screen, my hands shaking. The text had come from someone I hadn't heard from in years, someone I had tried to erase from my life.

 "We need to talk."

My father—Victor Langston.

He abandoned us at a time when we needed him most: my mother gone, and in his case, he eventually drowned in his own debt, leaving us to fend for ourselves. And I had long parted with him, to live life minus the burden of his mistakes, and here he was-back in my life, like a ghost that I just couldn't shake off.

Why now? I demanded of myself, answering half-heartedly: "What is it you want?"

My phone beeped within seconds.

"Come to Langston Tower. Tomorrow at 10 AM. Don't be late."
