Chapter 138: Tired of the Waiting Game

NOTE: Luc and older vampire king scene, some readers may want to skip ahead.

Luc POV

He couldn't wait to get back to his kingdom. He'd gladly pay any price to defeat his brother. But even so, he felt on edge,

He reclined in his bed in the royal palace in Lammas, massaging his sore muscles. If he didn't need Lammas' soldiers, he'd just strike out on his own. Maybe gather some disgruntled Merakians and Lammas mercenaries ...

But that plan left too much to chance, and he needed a big army to put the fear of the Elder Gods into his brother, Irina, and the human tart. Mercenaries could switch loyalties to the highest bidder, and Merakian so-called rebels might think twice about actually attacking the palace when the moment arrived.

Footsteps.

His ears pricked up, and he forced himself to lay calm and quiet in the bed. Did the footsteps sound familiar, like King Oliphant's?
