Luc POV
1959
The dust from the old silver mine tickled his nose. Why it hadn't been shut down, he could never figure out. But his parents had put him in charge of trying to modernize it, because the kingdom needed a steady supply of silver.
"Take it from me, brother," Dimitri said, putting on his miner's cap. "Silver is good, but rare minerals are going to be the next big thing, especially with the UNIVAC and the IBM computing machines."
"Hah! That's like 'television,'" Luc sniffed. "Computers, television ... they're just fads. Just life so many things humans come up with."
"You said the same about airplanes and 'horseless carriages' and steam trains," Dimitri observed, amused. "And the 'wireless.' And rock 'n roll. About the only invention you have embraced is the telephone. And also jazz and blues music."
