Epilogue

"I'm cherished memories of my childhood are unparalleled," a teenage boy says reflectively. "I've always been distinct since I was a child."

"Except you're still just a kid," the man beside him quips, eliciting laughter from both.

The boy's expression turns somber. "I'm growing up under my grandmother's care. She's everything to me until the day she passes away." He pauses momentarily before continuing. "I never get to know my father, but my mother's face remains etched in my memory. Gran-gran tells me my mother vanishes suddenly one day because that was the only way she could protect me from people seeking to harm me." The boy's voice cracks as he sighs.

"Occasionally, I see visions of my mother – her screams, her torture at the hands of those people. They keep repeating that my father is to blame, that he shouldn't have broken the law." The boy trails off.

"Law?" the man inquires, curiosity etched on his face.

The boy nods solemnly. "Yes, the law. I still don't fully comprehend what that means, though. Is my father part of a forbidden cult, prohibited from having children? The visions cease after my mother's disappearance. And the day I lose Gran-gran is the day my powers awaken amidst turmoil." The boy's expression darkens.

"Oh!" the man empathizes.

"I abhor this 'gift' with every fiber of my being," the boy confesses, his voice laced with disdain.
