Chapter 32: Only the Weak Are Bound

"So…"

"My task is to oversee the curse users on the second underground floor?"

At the entrance to the first level of the cave, Naobito asked aloud.

Mirai responded softly, "Just in case."

"I'll be heading back to the Jujutsu school after this. If something happens there, Zen'in Hisashi might not be able to handle it alone."

Hearing this, Naobito frowned and asked, "And if they cause trouble, how do I deal with them?"

Judging by the attitude of those two curse users, they've definitely been dealt with by Mirai. Yet, they're still alive, and their bodies seem more or less intact.

Naobito wasn't sure how to handle things if they stirred up trouble again.

"If they're just throwing a tantrum, a beating will suffice," Mirai's eyes flashed with a cold gleam. "But if they try to escape…"

He continued with a trace of killing intent, "Kill them, except for the curse user in the room opposite Ryuza.."

White Zetsu chuckled and added, "Old man, just don't break the blond brat's corpse, alright?"

Naobito nodded, feeling a rising curiosity about the curse user on the other side of the room.

"What about me?"

White Zetsu grinned and pointed to himself. "Can I go back to the Jujutsu school now?"

On the way up, Mirai had already filled White Zetsu in on everything that happened while he was unconscious.

"You just need to attend classes as usual. Once Ryuza finishes with the cursed tools, I'll have them sent over."

Mirai spoke casually, unconcerned.

White Zetsu's face showed a hint of surprise. "Didn't you say that Shoko and the others have already noticed something's wrong with the bodies?"

"If I waltz back in, won't that woman drag me to the infirmary and dissect me?"

Mirai's face remained calm. "They'll keep a certain level of surveillance on you, but they won't act directly."

"At least, until they have solid evidence that you've harmed any humans, you don't need to worry about your safety at the Jujutsu school."

White Zetsu was skeptical. "Is that so?"

"I feel like the Jujutsu school's attitude toward curses… isn't as friendly as you're making it sound."

Mirai glanced at White Zetsu, expressionless. "Ants will always be ants."

"Even if it's an ant that can talk, the most it'll do is pique their interest, not incite fear."

"As long as you maintain your harmless, edgy persona, a mere Grade 4 curse like you…"

"With that level of power, the higher-ups won't turn against you so easily."

Naobito nodded in agreement. "Mirai's right."

"As it stands now, even the panda that Yaga created, which can refine cursed energy independently, is more interesting than you."

"Over the years, Gojo Satoru has protected many sorcerers from the higher-ups with his overwhelming strength."

"And right now, you're backed by one of the three great families, the Zen'in Clan."

White Zetsu nodded thoughtfully. "What about the bodies? If they ask, what do I say?"

"Just tell them it's a sorcerer who died during rigorous Zen'in Clan training."

Mirai's voice was cold. "Legitimate reasons for a body—those are never in short supply."

"In the end, whether it's the Jujutsu school or the world at large…"

"The so-called laws and rules—only the weak are truly bound by them."

"Fine, then I'll head back to the Jujutsu school with you tomorrow," White Jue grinned.

Mirai shook her head. "Tomorrow, you'll go with Zen'in Hisashi. I'll be staying here for the time being."

White Zetsu blinked, about to ask why…

But when he met Mirai's unblinking scarlet eyes, something seemed to click. His grin widened, the corners of his mouth, split by a blade, oozing faint traces of crimson.

...

Early the next morning, Zen'in Hisashi led White Zetsu on their journey to the Jujutsu school.

After all, a Grade 4 curse spirit, if left unguarded, could easily die in some forgotten corner.

Naobito packed his belongings and a large amount of food, moving them to the second underground floor of the detention facility.

Meanwhile, Mirai sent nearly all the Zen'in Clan sorcerers out on missions to capture cursed spirits in various locations.

At the entrance to the first level of the detention facility, under the pavilion that the Zen'in Clan had built overnight, Mirai sat at a stone table with two cups of hot tea and a pile of intelligence reports.

At his suggestion, the stone stools had been replaced with soft, comfortable sofas. And even more out of place was the upright coffin behind him.

A coffin holding a corpse.

Mirai took a sip of his tea, muttering to himself, "I've fulfilled your request…"

"I imagine you wouldn't mind if I use your body as bait, would you?"

Inside the coffin, Geto Suguru remained silent.

Mirai's target had always been Geto, or rather, Geto's body.

Otherwise, he wouldn't have waited for Toge Inumaki and Maki Zen'in to appear before making his move, nor would he have left such obvious traces of residual cursed energy at the scene.

News of him killing Geto had likely spread throughout the Jujutsu school by now. That person should have received the information as well.

...

At the Jujutsu school gate, Maki, Inumaki, Okkotsu, and Panda walked side by side, a strange silence hanging over them.

Yesterday's events left each of them with different thoughts.

The stench in the infirmary, the body resembling a pile of corpses…

Shoko hadn't said anything, but none of them were blind.

And Panda had received a special order from his father, Yaga, late last night.

"Everyone~"

"Konnichiwa~"

A familiar voice came from behind.

Turning around—

There was White Zetsu, his infuriating grin as obnoxious as ever.

Maki snapped back to her senses first, ignoring the one-armed sorcerer standing next to White Jue. She stepped forward and punched him square in the chest.

White Zetsu staggered back, about to yell in protest when Maki spoke in a slightly worried tone.

"You idiot, are you alright?"

White Zetsu flashed a Joker-like smile and lifted his black robe to show off his pale muscles.

"I'm fine, Uncle's in perfect shape. Don't worry."

At this, Okkotsu and the others, who had been about to step forward, paused in unspoken agreement.

Sure enough, with a roar, White Zetsu was suddenly kicked several meters into the air.

From the third floor of the school building, Gojo Satoru, Yaga, Shoko, and Mei Mei stood watching the students' antics, each lost in their own thoughts.

Gojo peeled back a corner of his blindfold, his sky-blue eyes scrutinizing even more closely than before.

"Fascinating."

Gojo smiled. "If it weren't for the Six Eyes, I wouldn't be able to tell."

"The cursed energy is identical, the body is almost indistinguishable."

"The height has decreased by 0.7 cm from yesterday, and the left shoulder has dropped by 0.3 cm."

"The thigh and shin bones are also slightly more pronounced than they were yesterday."

"Without special means, even skilled sorcerers wouldn't notice these minute differences."

Shoko, hands in her pockets, stared coldly at White Zetsu below.

"So… another new corpse, then…"

Mei Mei paid no attention to their conversation.

Her gaze was fixed on the box the one-armed sorcerer was carrying, her eyes full of anticipation.

Would there be an extra bonus besides the mission reward?

That was the only thing Mei Mei cared about.
