Chapter 50: Resurrection, The Prelude

Chapter 50: Resurrection, Prelude (1/2)

Compared to closed domains, an open domain is undeniably on a higher level.

Like a flower blooming without roots or a painting unfettered by boundaries, the mastery required for such divine techniques far surpasses that of standard domains.

And the power? Equally staggering.

In exchange for breaking free from confinement, the range and destructive force of an open domain can increase dramatically. The drawback is that an enemy within an open domain can potentially escape its boundaries before the attack hits, evading the domain's binding rules.

But why is an open domain considered stronger?

Take Sukuna, the mightiest sorcerer in history, revered even during the golden age of jujutsu. And Kenjaku, who, over a thousand years, has indulged in twisted experiments to satisfy his desires, mastering countless cursed techniques.

These two ancient sorcerers possess a millennium's worth of accumulated knowledge. They have seen countless strange techniques and encountered countless gifted sorcerers. Yet, when facing formidable foes, both Sukuna and Kenjaku chose to fight with an open domain.

That alone says it all.

...

Bathed in a rain of blood, Mirai spread his arms wide, reveling in the ecstatic thrill of brushing against the core of cursed energy.

On the sacrificial altar above, the twisted expression on Sukuna's face contrasted sharply with Mirai's look of pure exhilaration.

At that moment, though Mirai was being cut to pieces, he seemed like the true victor in this battle!

The next second, the altar of bones conjured from Sukuna's cursed energy vanished abruptly.

"What's wrong?"

Mirai raised an eyebrow, his blood-red eyes glancing at Sukuna. "Are you seriously spent already, you worthless piece of trash?"

The icy tone of disdain pierced deep into Sukuna's pride.

After a moment of silence, he sneered, "Hmph! I'll remember you, Zen'in Mirai."

"Wait for me. Wait until I finish dealing with this brat, and there will come a day when you'll be on your knees, begging for mercy!"

With those words, Sukuna reached out and plunged his right hand into Itadori's chest. Taking advantage of Itadori's unconsciousness, Sukuna tore out his own heart.

When Itadori had first swallowed the finger, Sukuna didn't particularly care if he would return in this era or if his vessel survived. But now...

Sukuna glanced at the heart in his hand, clenching his fingers around it.

Now, with the names Gojo Satoru and Zen'in Mirai burning in his mind, he felt a surge of motivation to return to this world.

If he was to revive, finding a way out of this brat's body was now the problem Sukuna needed to solve.

With a final malicious grin aimed at Mirai, Sukuna crushed Itadori's heart in his hand.

It was time to enter the "Domain of Life" and have a proper talk with the brat called Itadori.

Mirai simply stood there, indifferent, watching everything unfold. He showed no intention of intervening. Only when Itadori's body slumped into the water with a dull splash did a faint, mock smile reappear on his face.

...

Outside the juvenile detention center, rain fell steadily from a gloomy sky.

Exhausted, Nobara sat in a puddle, her back against the wheel of a car, head bowed.

"Fushiguro... White Absolute... he's not really dead, right?"

Standing beside the car in the rain, Megumi's expression was complicated as he looked over at the two severed bodies placed on the back seat. He said nothing.

The fact that cursed spirits turn to dust upon death was common knowledge. But given White Absolute's current state, even Megumi wasn't sure what to say.

Not far away, Ijichi was on the phone with Principal Yaga, requesting additional support from Jujutsu High.

"How... can this be?!"

Megumi's startled exclamation rang out as he stared, wide-eyed, at the back seat.

Nobara shakily rose to her feet, following his gaze, her expression instantly freezing.

"White... White Absolute?"

Under their astonished eyes, the deathly pale skin of the body in the back seat began to fade, slowly transforming to reveal the unfamiliar features of another man. Meanwhile, a heavy stench of decay seeped from the car.

Just as confusion took hold of the two, a familiar voice called out from behind them.

"Yo~!"

They spun around, and there he was—White Absolute, clad in his iconic red cloud, black robe, with his ever-irritating smirk. Holding a rainbow-colored umbrella and wearing sunglasses that screamed "too cool for you," he waved at Nobara and said with his usual annoying tone:

"Hey, little punk, did my glorious return bring you to tears?"

Nobara froze, her gaze fixed on the revived White Absolute. Shock quickly gave way to a wave of panic before she promptly fainted, collapsing face-first into the puddle.

"Did she just faint from my sheer awesomeness?"

White Absolute, bewildered, looked down at the unconscious Nobara, his prepared speech instantly forgotten.

"White Absolute-senpai, what... is this?!"

A beat behind, Megumi caught Nobara, stunned as he looked at White Absolute, unsure of what to say.

"We'll explain later." Ijichi approached, having finished his call. "Fushiguro, put the body from the back seat in the trunk. Shoko-sensei may need it."

Ijichi had been briefed over the phone, so he was relatively calm about White Absolute's return.

"White Absolute-kun, is Mirai-sensei still in the detention center?"

White Absolute nodded, exasperated. "Yeah, he's in there. Probably still battling Sukuna."

Originally, he'd been hoping for a bit of sparring with Nobara himself, but she had fainted before he even got the chance.

Where's the justice in that?

Feeling rather put out, White Absolute shook his head and slid into the front passenger seat, falling silent.

A moment later,

"Fushiguro-kun, I'll take Nobara back to the school for treatment. You stay here and wait for Itadori and Mirai-sensei."

Megumi nodded, watching the black car gradually drive off.

As for White Absolute...

Apparently, he planned to stay close to Nobara and return to the school with her as soon as she woke up.

...

Somewhere overseas, in a remote valley.

"That man! Honestly!"

"Skips the missions assigned by Jujutsu High and then has the nerve to ask Big Sis for help."

Standing barely over five feet tall, Youyou clutched a massive axe almost as big as herself, her face full of irritation.

"Youyou~"

With a sultry smile, Mei Mei crouched down, ruffling Youyou's hair. "That man's... a little different."

"He's Big Sis's favorite, you know~"

Youyou pursed her lips, gently wiping away the blood on Mei Mei's delicate cheek.

"You don't really like him, Sis. You just love the payment he gives."

"Mm-hmm~"

"You sure know me well, little sis. That's why I like you."

As the siblings exchanged words, the special-grade cursed spirit lying beside them slowly disintegrated into ashes.

"Honestly, I'm looking forward to it..."

Mei Mei pulled out her phone, sending a photo of the cursed spirit moments before its demise to Mirai. A sly smile played at her lips.

"How much will the reward be this time, I wonder~?"

...

"Moshi~ moshi~"

In a distant graveyard, Gojo Satoru had just located the hiding place of a special-grade cursed spirit when his phone rang.

"Boom!"

A concentrated blast of cursed energy exploded directly on Gojo's face.

The special-grade spirit, seizing the chance, leaped from behind a tombstone.

"Yay-hehehe~!"

Watching the smoke and dust swirl, the cursed spirit chuckled gleefully.

In the next instant, a brilliant blue beam of cursed energy surged from the smoke, vanishing as quickly as it appeared.

The cursed spirit glanced down at the massive hole in its chest, its smirk frozen. Then, its body slowly dissipated into smoke and dust.

When the dust settled, Gojo remained entirely unharmed, still holding the phone to his ear, his eyes never once meeting the so-called special grade.

"I understand..."

Listening to Ijichi's report on the other end, the smile on Gojo's lips slowly faded as his expression grew solemn.
